They aren't even letting me enjoy the continued regression of Jered Weaver and Reggie Willits. God damn you, Silva. Just...go. Go away and never come back.

Uhhh

the Angels are slightly above average as a team, and Vlad’s defense this year hasn’t been freak-show bad. He ranks in the middle of the pack of MLB RF’ers.

I wish it were not so.

Regression stops when you get old

After a certain point you just suck. We learned that the hard way…..like 8 times.

by OlSalty on Jun 4, 2008 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions

We lose Vlad and Lackey after '09, don't we?

And Frankie is gone this year. Plus Escobar is iffy. Third base is still a hole. Gary is done. I don’t think Willits is coming back. Garret is gone (done already). That leaves Hunter in the outfield, most of an infield, underachieving at catcher and a questionable rotation.

Assuming we resign nobody, sure.

But that’s atleast 50-60 million dollars/year coming off the books, too. I think the odds we resign atleast Lackey are good, Vlad will depend on whether he returns to form. Franky is probably leaving, but we’ve got Arredondo and Shields, at the very least. Santana’s not going anywhere, now. Saunders may regress, but he won’t be that bad. Adenhart’s on the way up, and he’ll be good by 2010, I think.

Joy is where you find it

Yes, losing sucks, but NOTHING will prevent me from finding sweet, sweet joy in the regression of Jered Weaver.

Good call

I loved that game so very much.

by marc w on Jun 4, 2008 2:58 PM PDT up reply actions

For M's fans

at least M’s fans who grew up with a team that flirted with 95-100 losses each year, the outcome of each game is much less important than some small sign of hope.
Especially this year, I don’t care so much if we win, though it’s obviously pretty cool if we do, but I just want to see something that makes being a fan worth it – a Wlad bomb, Clement’s LD swing, Felix, etc.

Snelling gave me a lot of hope that day, and that hope wasn’t extinguished because we lost the game. That hope was extinguished later, much, much more painfully.

I've always wondered.

Why a pitcher doesn’t catch pop ups when he’s clearly in the easiest position to make the play. Instead, the first baseman, or shortstop, or catcher comes running out and does it instead.

Fans are typically idiots.

by The Typical Idiot Fan on Jun 4, 2008 3:20 PM PDT reply actions

A couple of reasons

1. He’s coming off the mound which is disorienting
2. The infielders are specialists at catching balls, and have practiced it more
3. MLB pop ups can be rather tricky. They have a lot of movement and are way up there
4. Tradition

Not a very strong argument.

I’m well aware of the otaku lifestyle in Japan and I still like anime. Just because you haven’t lived in an environment/community for X amount of time doesn’t mean you should be barred from enjoying a certain form of entertainment. You don’t see the Irish clubbing me over the head every time I listen to traditional Irish music.

That said, if certain posts bug a majority of an online community, I’d suggest not posting them. A majority of people here find anime annoying. Ergo, don’t post anime.

OSUs play style

isn’t really as boring or “smash mouth” as you might like to think.

They line up in plenty of spread formations and attempted all sorts of modern college play making. The issue is that they suck and the only remotely talented player they had on offense last year was Chris Wells.

I could go on and on about how you’re wrong but I don’t think I need to.

Also I don’t think Ultimate success is defined as backing your way into the MNC and getting your ass handed to you 2 years in a row.

The poster formerly known as Matt.

by bluemax on Jun 4, 2008 7:14 PM PDT up reply actions

They're fast.

They’re the one team nationally (even ‘SC included) that’s as fast as some of those SEC schools (UF, UGA, LSU). I have no idea why they don’t win more because Tressel is somewhere between a good and great coach, and they really do have the athletes. Their secondary has been legitimately fantastic the last three or four years.

I actually think it’s because they just have trouble adjusting to playing teams with as much speed as them and who run interesting offensive schemes (like say the spread) as opposed to very vanilla (besides Purdue and NW Big Ten offenses) (and let’s face it – Purdue and NW don’t have anywhere near the speed necessary to keep up with Ohio State)

by seattlebruin on Jun 5, 2008 9:30 AM PDT up reply actions

The Wings aren't boring at all

I don’t like them (or hate them), but they’re fucking spectacular.

by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 4, 2008 6:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe it's just me...

But it seems like they just play the technical aspects of hockey to absolute perfection. On a list of teams I’d pay to see, they’d be near the bottom. Plus their star players aren’t exciting… Last Red Wing player I liked was Federov in his early years.. or Stevie Y in, well, every year he played.

by Boydo on Jun 4, 2008 6:58 PM PDT up reply actions

I'd say Datsyuk and Zetterberg are pretty damn exciting

the thing that’s fun about the Red Wings is precisely that technical perfection. They’re the best puck possession team in the league and you almost never see them make a bad pass.

by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 4, 2008 7:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree 100%

Call me a simpleton, but I’d just rather watch an Ovetchkin breakway than the 5 guys in red playing keepaway from the other team.

by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 4, 2008 7:20 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah that's true

I was more trying to illustrate the fact I would rather watch a star player on a bad team than the red wings. Some other players I’d pay to see rather than watch the Red Wings include Mike Modano, Joe Thorton, Ilya Kovelchuk, Malkin and Crosby or Jarome Iginla. Granted some of those players are on good teams, this is just off the top of my head of players I have wanted to see, but haven’t yet.
