Felix Goes On DL...
Jimenez called up from Tacoma per Dave Niehaus on the postgame show.
Jeff's note: not really a surprise. Felix's DL stint will presumably be retroactive to 6/24, which would set him up to return in Oakland on 7/9. There's no reason to take any chances right now, and Jimenez is coming up in time to throw a handful of innings tomorrow, as Lowe - who was on the docket to throw extended relief along with RRS and Corcoran - had to go tonight. Wouldn't be shocked to see that turn into a rotating roster spot for a little while.
It sucks that we'll be without Felix for another week and a half, but it's far better to let him heal than it is to push him when it isn't the least bit necessary. He'll back before you can say "holy crap this team is so God damn boring without Felix", and everything will be peaches.

I can't say I'm surprised.
How many starts does he figure to miss?
Nothing major
He’ll be fine. It’s just going to be a dull several days.

That's too bad. RJ was great to see at the dome.
I saw the 300th K the first time he did it. He pitched 10 innings that day. He always gave a big “fuck you” to 100 pitch limits.
:(
That’s the day after I leave for Europe so therefore I miss Felix for ~3 weeks.

I think the same of peaches.
It’s just too bad pears don’t have a saying like ‘Pears and cream’.
Peaches get so much media play because of that catchy line.
Linguists tried to help pears make up some of the ground but homonyms just don't pack the same punch

Endeavor to better market pears.
Bam, 22 minute plot line.
This shit is easy.
Excellent pilot.
Congratulations on alienating everybody but me.

Hi, despite you knowing my reference, and you being the only person that could know it,
we seem to have never met. I’m Matthew and I constantly make jokes intended for less than five people to understand.
All the rest of you guys might as well find another thread because this one won't be getting any easier to understand

I’m assuming the “Robert Shift” brings the infielders close enough to be within arm’s reach?

Now that I'm over not seeing him yesterday,
I can put my selfishness aside and say: Good move, M’s. Be safe.
I'm worried that people thinking that Felix will return on 7/9 will be disappointed
That was a terrible hit from Beltran, and I couldn’t believe the reports coming out from the M’s that Felix was not hurt bad.
I think the pansy assed Mariner FO/PR division realized the anger against Beltran and to “protect” his dirty behind, they sent out these calming reports. Makes me mad, that this dirty player wrecks our best pitcher and the FO is more worried about the wellbeing of this damn guy than our injured man.
Some people may be upset with me for calling Beltran “dirty” but he is. There was no need to come in like that. A lot of players could have avoided wrecking the pitcher. Pujols is another dirty player, I can still remember the shots of him smirking from the dugout after he hurt that catcher (pitcher?) bad. I think these guys are too roided/HGHed up, and they can only think of coming in like a mindless bulldozer. I hate those type of stupid jerks.
In hindsight Felix put himself in a terrible position.
It’s not Beltran’s responsibility to try and avoid people standing directly in his way.
by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 30, 2008 11:05 PM PDT up reply actions
Jeff, I've looked at the play many times.
Of course, there was nothing “illegal” about it. I’m saying that a lot of players wouldn’t mow the pitcher down like that. Beltran did.
Felix was in front of the plate.
Beltran was sliding.
As a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball.
by Aaron Campeau on Jun 30, 2008 11:12 PM PDT up reply actions
It would have been unbelievably difficult to avoid Felix on that slide
by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 30, 2008 11:13 PM PDT up reply actions
And Felix placed his foot in the way ~2 nanoseconds before it got hit by Beltran's foot.
Beltran was no more aggressive than any other player sliding into home. He saw the plate, slid into it, and in between those two actions, Felix put his foot right in between.
Clean as hell.
Felix was standing on the plate and it looked like it could've been a close play
He either slides around him and arm tags the plate risking an out or slides into him for the sure thing, it’s hard to blame him.
Felix came in at the last second.
Beltran was trying to avoid Clement and didn’t see him coming. This wasn’t Beltran’s fault.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
THe mistake is all on Felix. If he would have reacted on contact like pitcher are taught when feilding instead of looking at the Catcher first
he would have been in proper postion to make the play. He didnt, and he got hurt. There is no reason for any player to try to avoid a player in that postion. Felix broke the cardinal rule in protecting the plate, never be perindicular to the basepath, allways parallel.
Truthfully im happy its only a ankle sprain and not a MCL injury wich is common with that type of impact. It all falls back to defensive fundamentas
Yeah, that's GTE
Nobody really wants Beltran to get hurt of course.
I’m just mad that the FO/PR division sent out this report that “Felix might not even miss a start”. That’s bullshit, it was a terrible hit.
Probably had more to do with Felix downplaying his own injury to them at first
I’m willing to believe Felix didn’t feel that badly hurt immediately after it happened, but after sleeping on it realized it hurt much more than it had before it swelled up.
Also I would appreciate it if you wouldn't throw around senseless steroid accusations.

Jl/Robert '08: Promise for a CoachCage tomorrow!
By the way, please excuse me if my comments bothered anyone
I’m just upset. From my viewpoint there are only really two special ballplayers on the M’s with some rarified baseball ability, that make you say “gee how did he do that”. Felix and Ichiro.
It makes me really upset that Felix might not ever reach his real peak of baseball greatness because some dumb random guy came in like a mindless bulldozer. What a goshd@mn waste!
If Felix really is OK, then this is some delayed and foolish GTE on my part (sorry again). But that hit was terrible, can the ligaments really come back 100% as if it never happened?
If someone can say yes with sureity, thank you for the relief.
Any and all emotional comments made regarding Felix are happily excused
by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 30, 2008 11:29 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes
Anyone’s whose had an ankle sprain should know.
Plus this may give his calf problem some time to heal.
AKA "BRO-RAY" according to drunk Graham...
He'll be fine
it’s a sprain. If Friday was Game 7 of the World Series, I’d have bet a lot of money Felix would have pitched. But the team is 31-51, so why risk losing the entire future of your franchise any more time than necessary
Bullpen relay!
Also, we’ll find out just how steeped in reality Cesar Jimenez’s good K/BB in AAA was.
