Willie Bloomquist and the Silver Lining
Things that make me happy about the 2008 Mariners, No. 4:
Willie Bloomquist will not be returning next year.
Ok, I don't have any justification or inside information to back that up, but look at this.
| Games | GS | PA | Def. Sub | PH | PR | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cairo, April | 9 | 1 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 4 |
| Cairo, May | 17 | 10 | 50 | 2 | 3 | 2 |
| WFB, April |
13 | 7 | 30 | 1 | 4 | 1 |
| WFB, May |
12 | 3 | 16 | 2 | 4 | 3 |
Def. Sub is defensive substitutions. PH/PR are appearances as such, but include that one time WFB batted for Jeff Clement in the bottom of the 9th.
Applying a little linear regression to Willie's playing time reveals that on Saturday, June 21, versus the Atlanta Braves, Willie F. Bloomquist will cease to exist. [His estimated PA/tmG will reach zero.]

Nah. The Mariners won't let him go.
He’s a local white boy, he’s been in their organization since they drafted him and he defines grit.
"Hole in one, eh?"
Willie Bloomquist is tenured at this point
so he’s untouchable.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
The first season of that show was awesome

Agreed...I was looking forward to a great show..but nope
I fucking hate you Mariners
My money is on.....
the M’s hoping to turn him into the next Ibanez.
Just noticed something about Ibanez
He’s been a pretty good triples hitter. Yeah, he’s left handed, but I’d never think of him as “fast on the basebaths.” However, he’s had 5 or more triples in 5 of the last 7 years.
Meh.
He’s no Phil Bradley…

I actually like having Willie on the team
yeah, he’s no regular, but he’s useful as long as he isn’t playing every day. And God, he’s certainly better than Cairo
It has gotten pretty sad around Mariner land
we’re complaining that Willie isn’t getting enough playing time.
Well, he might be one of the nine best position players on the team
Of no other MLB team could that possibly be said… except maybe the Giants

Ok this makes me soooo sad
2008 Mariners: .249/.306/.384
WFB (Career): .257/.314/.324
Those two are way too close.

This is all because of the dreaded shellfish incident
Bad PR for the Mariners. They’ll have to let him go
