JP Ricciardi Is A Crazy Person

How it started:

The Reds' first visit to Toronto for Interleague Play this week immediately took on added interest last Wednesday night, when Ricciardi was hosting his weekly call-in show. A caller asked about whether the Blue Jays should trade for Dunn.

"Do you know that the guy really doesn't like baseball all that much?" was among Riccardi replies. "Do you know the guy doesn't have a passion to play the game that much? We've done our homework on guys like Adam Dunn and there's a reason we don't want Adam Dunn."

An unhappy Dunn responded last week by calling Ricciardi "some clown sitting in the front office pushing paper."

How it's going:

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said his feud with Reds left fielder Adam Dunn was finally settled via a phone call between the two over the weekend.

Not so, says Dunn.
...

Found in the clubhouse tunnel on the visitor's side of the field, Dunn was emphatic that he never called Ricciardi and that the two haven't spoken.

"What? Not true. One million percent," Dunn told MLB.com after being informed of Ricciardi's comments.

Ricciardi says he spoke with someone who claimed he was Adam Dunn. Ricciardi then says he deleted the person's number from his cell phone logbook, even though I can't for the life of me imagine something more unlikely and pointless. I still have call listings from telemarketers, headhunters, and women I'll never see again in my life. Not because they're serving any purpose, but because why would I bother erasing them? Who erases phone calls? Particularly from numbers that could help verify a convenient story that you're telling the media. Unless...

There was a point several years ago at which a lot of people thought that JP Ricciardi was going to be the next Billy Beane. Turns out instead he's just pretty much the worst liar of all time.

Hahaha Ricciardi is dumb.

Yeah seriously deleting a call is pointless. There is no benefit from doing it.

Fuck that, it was a fun banter about competing Hockey teams.

Making shit up about what teams you do and don’t like to get 6ish looking women to be attracted to you is retarded. I kind of like the Sens because they’re the only Hockey team I really know anything about.

Yup. Read "Fever Pitch".

Apart from being Arsenal-centric, it’s a really good book.

Only 1 Reason to Delete a Phone Number

Maybe Ricciardi was afraid his wife would think he was having an affair with Adam Dunn, and this whole “feud” thing is a cover-up…. Of course Dunn would deny it. He’s just as worried about getting caught.

Digging his own grave.

Players are not going to want to play for the Jays as long as Ricciardi is the GM.

I delete the call history in my phone all the time.

A: Because I get bored occassionaly and it’s something to do.
B: I have a stupid theory the less memory I use in my phone, the longer the battery lasts.
C: I’m picky about crap like that. I hate having old stuff around. Doesn’t matter to me if it’s bread, messages, emails or shoes.

(I probably use more battery life having it on and open to delete the call history and message history, I know)

I like midgets more than I should.

Even if you delete a number you can still look up your phone records online...

...that is how I found the bastard cab driver that stole my cell phone. To be fair I did leave it in his cab so he didn’t “actively” steal it, but I consider not turning it into lost and found and using it for a few calls to be stealing.

Ricciardi is lucky to still have a job

I have no idea what it will take for him to lose it. If I remember correctly he is on year seven of a revised five year plan that was originally three years. At first people argued he was not getting enough money from the ownership, so he got money. Now he has money and the team is still not competing so he fires the manager, that he promoted, and three coaches. The only MLB regulars that he has drafted are Aaron Hill and Shawn Marcum over 7 years and this is with him emphasizing safe college players for picks in the past. Lind and Snider are good prospects but not sure things yet. When your third best MLB player coming from seven years of drafting is Dave Bush, I would not be impressed. His work in the trade and free agent market is not terrible. However, he has signed or traded for many aging and or often injured players. For example, the Canadian version of Ibanez, Matt Stairs being extended along with signing Frank Thomas. Also he has other aging players or ones past their prime playing key roles such as Shannon Stewart, Eckstein, Rolen, and Zaun. Finally, he has blocked prospects, mostly Lind, with the poor acquisitions of Kevin Mench and Wilkerson, who both have similar skill sets to offer.

True

Too bad the first time the Yankees are having a bad season in a while, they choose to field one of the worst starting lineups offensively in the league.

at least he gave us (A's) Chad Gaudin for free

though we did give him Ted Lilly for free before (though that was mainly due to Kieth Foulke being a douche)

Pessimism FTW! ... Wait what?

Stairs has his flaws

he also has his uses. There’s nothing wrong with paying him $3.2M / 2, and $800K in 2007. And David Eckstein at $4.5M /1 is a pretty good deal.

Extending Matt Stairs along with signing Frank Thomas wasn’t a problem. The Jays offense sucks, their pitching and D is excellent. They can take a defensive hit to improve their offense. The problem was cutting bait on Thomas after some early season struggles.
