Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

I didn't even know this was possible...

Bronson Arroyo had a negative gamescore (Bill James' gamescore) for his pitching performance yesterday. I honestly thought that was impossible. His line:

IP: 1

H: 11

R: 10

ER: 10

BB: 1

K: 1

HR: 3

Gamescore: -9

To put this into perspective Jeff Weaver's 2007 April 28th start (0.1 IP, 6 ER) had a gamescore of 12. That's probably the worst performance from a starting pitcher that I can think of. What about you guys? What's the worst start you can think of?

No they didn't.

The game was over at that point.

Just throw the ball and hope to make outs. I can do that.

I didn't spell anything wrong.

I just used the wrong word

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

They are the Red Sox. They would be looking at the naked pictures of the guy.

Sorry, not used to this whole correct spelling business. I just got out for summer break and don’t want to even think about grammar or anything related to it.

I think Jason Jennings was worse last year

0.2 IP, 11 R. Not sure what his gamescore was though, but I’m sure it’s close.

Holy shit.

You’re referring to this game. His game score was -11. Good god.

I remember that game

I was rooting like crazy for the Astros to overcome the 12-run deficit

Also amusing at first glance

Is that Jennings was pulled for Mark McLemore, who pitched 1.1 innings of relief. Not our Mark McLemore, but for a couple of seconds while I clicked through it was an amusing thought that he might still be out there as a 7 ERA pitcher :)

Mike oquist posted a -21

In 1998, the A’s left him out there to give up 14 runs in five innings. A -21 is the worst game score in baseball history, by the way.

Excuse my ignorance,

but is that the same Dave Cameron of USSM?

If it is, we have one of the most fortunate fanbases when it comes to solid baseball analysis. Which is ironic considering the piss-poor management we have running the Mariners.

by Wilder. on Jun 25, 2008 9:05 AM PDT up reply actions

It is.

And it’s not so much ironic as it is mortifying.

Cause and effect

Fans of competent teams are content to let the teams do the heavy analysis.

You could make an argument that the upsurge in

SABR minded blogs on Mariners baseball is related to the shittyness of Mariners baseball.

Fans are typically idiots.
