6/24: Open Game Thread
Seattle Mariners at New York Mets, Jun 24, 2008 4:10 PM PDT
Yesterday I decided to stay in the office until the end of the game because I didn't want to miss a single minute of the action while driving home. Today I will not be doing that.

by seattlebruin on Jun 24, 2008 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Flagged for excessive use of flagging
Flagging is inherently bad for LL.
a. Flagging acts as an exclusionary barrier against speech. Having to carefully consider whether one’s words will be accepted by such a narrow framework as a prerequisite to posting is not healthy to the LL community.
b. Second, flagging imposes an artificial norm upon posters. The threat of being flagged forces posters to mimic the posting style of those that are in no danger of being flagged, purely on the risk that others might either consciously or unconsciously accept it as normal or even mandatory. This strips posters of their right to make their own stylistic choices.
c. Third, long subthreads about flagging ought to have been a dead meme a long time ago.
Felix Hernandez is just... too... sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!
How is that any different to the good old days where I just flamed people rather than them getting flagged?
by Graham MacAree on Jun 24, 2008 4:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Everyone has 2 fewer homeruns than Jose Lopez
metaphorically

Sometimes it's not metaphorically, it's literally
and the number changes to 4

That was the most selfish homer I have ever seen.

You know what's hilarious? Apparently the Mets have never defeated us.
And the way things are going, apparently they never will.
Mets being greeted with booze as they go back to the dugout?
We should start doing this at the Safe.
Kenji hit that almost as far as Felix
We really need to get Kenji going. We’re going to have him for a while, plus I like him.
I think Clement is a better defensive catcher than Kenji

I think it's a wash
but if the pitchers prefer throwing to Jeff, then Jeff should be the starting catcher.
I think they should trade off C and DH.
Save their legs and have them retain value longer.
I wouldn't have too much of a problem with this.
But keep in mind, if you do this, you have to keep Jamie Burke on the roster.
Like anyone else on our bench has more value than him.
Maybe we could teach WFB to catch in a pinch.
by Smegmalicious on Jun 24, 2008 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions
Or pick up someone who can hit off the bench and can catch in a pinch
You really don’t need to carry a third dedicated catcher in that situation.

Flag'd for making me cry.

You think Perez would be the perfect pitcher to own us.

Are you insinuating Ichiro is no longer awesome?

I miss 3 hits a game awesome Ichiro.
He’s still awesome in my book. My open offer to bear his manbabies still stands.
He needs to aim better.

There's a Pearl Harbor joke here, but I don't really want to be the one that makes it...

I celebrate H-Bomb day by singing patriotic song with my subserviant wife and strapping young sons.
Also, I am black.

Beltran was talking about where the pitch was
The Met’s manager came out, then the umpire bumped him and rung him. Then Beltran got in the umpire’s face about it and got rung too.

So is taking out Felix on a play at the plate
That could only have been better if Beltran have somehow injured himself a la Bradley
by Graham MacAree on Jun 24, 2008 5:14 PM PDT up reply actions
Lets see
- Ump makes questionable call.
- Beltran calls him out a little bit.
- Manuel talks to the Ump
- Ump bumps into Manual then rings him up like a pussy.
- Beltran gets pissed and he gets thrown out.

Haha the umpire bumped him and then tossed him because he didn't move out of the way.
Felix Hernandez hit a Grand Slam off Johan Santana.
Just popping in
Nice revenge work. claps
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

Anyone else notice that Sexson isn't looking like a complete spastic whenever the ball is hit to him anymore?
Maybe Arthur Rhodes intimidated him into taking more infield.

Not sure.
Anyone else notice that his knuckleball looks slower today than it has in the past.
nononononononono
The ump should have kicked Beltran in the balls

For such a toolsy guy
you think Beltran would make more contact.

.280 career hitter
only topped .300 twice and most of his seasons seem to be around .275, weird. I always thought he was better.
The poster formerly known as Matt.
Is any lead so great that Jon Garland can't give it away?
I need to know because the fucking Angels are up on the Nats 8-2. God we suck.
RAUUUUUUUUL
That didn’t look that great off the bat, though.
FUNK BLAST!
I’m glad Beltran got tossed, but seriously Runge is a terrible umpire for his actions there

Hey look, another hard hit ball is caught for an out.
Aim better you foreign prick.
Luck is a myth
What is LD%? Loser Douche percentage? If so, Beltre must be leading the lead with one billion percent.

Would a competent manager at this point insert a Rookie
who has an incredibly high ceiling with the bat, really needs some confidence, and also has weirdly good reverse platoon numbers as a LH hitter?
