All right, all the video game nerds in the building . . .

I’m going to buy either Burnout Paradise or Devil May Cry 4 for like $15. Which do I choose? Or both?

I played the Burnout demo and was annoyed as fuck by having to actually follow street signs in the middle of the race and all that, but I might get used to it, I guess. Anyway, let me know if you have any opinions. I’m on the fence.

by Teej on Jun 16, 2008 9:48 PM PDT reply actions

It's every other GTA game, but a bit darker.

So . . . in my opinion . . . it’s pretty damn sweet.

by Teej on Jun 16, 2008 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Great on its own.

But San Andreas had WAY more to do.

And I wish they found a way to use custom soundtracks as a radio station, again. I hate having my music play when im running around exploring. Takes away from the vibe of the city.

GTA4’s physics are beyong amazing. The cars can be totaled just as good as you see in the Burnout series, and running over people has never been more fun. Ran someone head on and they might fly through the windshield.

The story is really good, and a tad more realistic. Wanted system takes some getting used to.

The downside is simply put…when you get 100%, there isnt much left. Hopefully downloadable content adds more games, stores etc. Oh, and the Sanchez isnt as wicked awesome as it was.

Bowling is ok. Pool is more of a cheatfest on their part. And if you lose one game of darts, you should be smacked.

Only 3 clothing stores in the game. Cant get tattoos, hairstyles, customize cars, off track betting, gambling, or BUY safe houses.

by Slica on Jun 16, 2008 10:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Its hard to stay alive to even get 5 stars.

Unless you camp somewhere, rack up the wanted level and then take off running.

Ive lasted over 10 mins with a 6 star level on this one, though. Just need to dodge helicopters and keep moving.

They both got pretty good reviews, though.

I’ve played both demos, and they seem pretty solid.

by Teej on Jun 16, 2008 9:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Burnout Paradise I can speak for

Its a great game, the Crash mode sucks though. The ‘playground’ is huge, though while there are a ton of ramps, there aren’t as many wicked ones as you would expect. The game is more forgiving than Revenge. When you move up a license, the events you beat are available to use again towards your progress. Memorizing the streets is not really needed. You can take virtually any route you want to win a race. The cars are interesting, and taking down a car you unlock is pretty cool. Online is a blast—-its the only game I have ever played online, but still…the damage effects are stellar.

It depends. If you want a sandbox game with options and creativity, go with Burnout Paradise. Its a great game on its own, but I prefer the previous two more. The crash mode is just completely fucked up now. As for DMC4…never played it, but if you want a story…obviously, it would be the right choice.

Churchill seems to believe that Jeff Clement has been recalled from AAA Tacoma.

Tacoma play-by-play man Mike Curto reports that Clement received a phone call prior to the game and was promptly scratched from the lineup.

by BrianL on Jun 16, 2008 10:04 PM PDT reply actions

And FSN confirms.

Wlad is back to Tacoma, Clement recalled.

by BrianL on Jun 16, 2008 10:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Some people will bash Wlad being sent down instead of a Vidro/Sexson DFA

but I think this is the right move. Wlad clearly has issues he needs to hammer out at Tacoma, and Clement is ready. Furthermore, the team would need to scour the FA market and waiver wires before DFAing Sexson.
