Reed learning 1B

Jeremy Reed practices at first base

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Jeremy Reed worked out at first base on Saturday afternoon before batting practice, something manager John McLaren said was done with an eye toward inter-league play in a National League park when the Mariners will be without a designated hitter.

Yeah! Never mind the fact that Ibanez already knows how to play 1B. Never mind that fact that putting Ibanez at 1B would get his carcase out of LF, and save us oh so many runs. Never mind the fact that Reed is already good at one possition has no needs learn another one. Never mind common sense.

I don't see how you haven't figured this out already.

They are clearly playing for Strasburg now. There is no other logical reason for all their stupid decisions.

I don't even think the Mariners have thought about Strasburg.

That would mean they are actually preparing for the future instead of letting ddancing visions of 2008 playoffs hopes rule the season.

I don't like this idea at all

You’ll move Reed to a position he’s never come close to playing at any level (umm I think?) but you won’t stretch out Morrow? Wtf people.

by OlSalty on Jun 15, 2008 12:11 AM PDT reply actions

Because he did

He moved to OF in his junior year, I believe. But overall, he played more 1B in college than OF.

was Strasburg?

This is far and away the dumbest move of the Bavasi/Grover/McLaren era. It’s time to burn this mother fucker down. It’s time for upset fans to start blocking entrances to the stadium. It’s time to bring 20,000 paper bags with eye and mouth holes (for rally fries, natch). Its time for outright war against the organization.

This team really doesn't need a complete blow-up.

I think getting a competent 1B, DH, and RF will greatly improve this club.

For the record, I'm totally down for the paper bag thing

I’ve never done it before and I’d love to try it out.

by JLC on Jun 15, 2008 12:14 AM PDT up reply actions

Eh...The paper bag thing is an old trick.

Maybe you should just ignore the game and read the sports section out of the Seattle-PI…which probably will have another “Lol Mariners Fail” article on the front page.

It'd get the point across though

And would probably be allowed. More likely than my “all aboard the failboat” sign anyways.

Baker is practically putting on the bag now

I am really starting to love him again…

Not to mention Dave and the FSN team cracking up about how this team has no MVP’s the other day, that was awesome. Everyone seems to be finding humor in it now, just like us.

This is dumb, but...

It signals to me that Sexson is on the way out and they’re looking for a way to get Reed’s bat in the lineup.

It’s a start, I guess.

Only for interleague games though...

I don’t think this means Reed will be our everyday 1B, they’re just trying to figure him into the lineup since Vidro can’t play a defensive position even semi-competetently and Richie sucks. That’s really funny that Reed might play 1B better than Vidro, when you think about it, has he ever played 1B? (I speak from complete ignorance here so feel free to make me look stupid)

Jason Ellison is cealry in that picture. And Putz got the save. There is no way that is the worst team in baseball.

I’m sure you can find a picture from 2008, but I like the idea.

This has to be a joke.

Just when I think this organization can not possibly get any dumber, they achieve a whole new level of complete and utter stupidity. I’m afraid of what they’ll do next—I can see them dealing away the farm for Griffey and Zito so they can “right the ship” and have a miracle come back this year.
