McLaren: Lopez an All-Star
Jose Lopez, who has been the Mariners' best overall hitter this season, has been talked up by the manager as a potential All-Star.
McLaren Calls Jose Lopez All-Star
He who is batting .297/.312/.425 is All-Star quality.
For context:
Ian Kinsler (Tex) : .307/.358/.478
Placido Polanco (Det): .297/.355/.425
John McLaren is rubbish. John McLaren is rubbish. John McLaren is rubbish. John McLaren is rubbish. John McLaren is rubbish. John McLaren is rubbish.

OPS+
Lopez: 103
Polanco: 103
Kinsler: 126
Kinsler is also a butcher with the glove. .783 RZR 10 OOZ while Loafie is at .817 and 13.
The 2Bs in the All Star Game should be Kinlser and Lopez. But of course Loafie will be screwed and Cano will start or something equally as dumb.
Go Nova
Cano was second in the voting at last check
and Pedroia is leading the AL in hits, no?
I’d be OK with Kinsler and Pedroia, but Loafie certainly deserves to at least be in the discussion
by seattlebruin on Jun 11, 2008 10:16 AM PDT up reply actions
Yeah Pedroai wouldn't be a stretch.
If Cano gets in (and starts, no less) someone will pay.
I think we have 4-5 AS caliber players now.
Beltre has no shot, but if he had regular luck he’d be a lock. Ichiro is Ichiro. Loafie deserves to be in the discussion.
Felix IMO deserves a shot but won’t because of wins. And Morrow should get consideration (like Okajima last year) but he won’t because we’re not the Red Sox.
Ichiro will make it and that’s probably it.
Go Nova
Also, I think his numbers would be better if Mac wouldn't bunt him all the damn time
and ask him to try and loft sacrifice flies. He’s a better hitter than that. You want a bunt, let Willie hit.

I agree with this
Ichiro is on pace for a career high in stolen bases though.

Meh on Morrow. History shows that 1-2 non-closer relievers make it every year
and I don’t think Morrow has been a truly elite guy this season. Potential, sure, but Okajima was unhittable the first half last season.

I don't know.
He has a 2.12 RA, a 378 (!) ERA+ (flawed but that’s what all stars need to make it), he’s striking out 12.4 per game while only walking 3.8 , and he has a 2.92 xFIP.
Whether or not he makes it (hint: he won’t) he has numbers that stand up to the scrutiny, both ours and Joe ESPNfan
Go Nova
Yeah, I'm not arguing that he hasn't been awesome
just that between being a middle reliever, not running a sub .5 ERA and missing time with injury, he’s just not the guy you would think of as an All-Star middle reliever
by seattlebruin on Jun 11, 2008 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah I guess.
I don’t think he’ll make it but I think that he’s deserving.
According to THT he’s one of the best non-closers in the AL in both RA and xFIP.
He won’t make it so it’s a moot point, but I think he’s deserving
Go Nova
Where does Loafie rank among
2b in terms of defense anyways, I used to think he was good (like Yuni), but lately, I’ve felt like he sucks.

Brian Roberts
I’m surprised no one has mentioned him here. OPS+, 121, good baserunner, EQA 287. Kinsler’s EQA is 300. Lopez, 264, Polanco, 264, Mark Ellis 266.
Ellis’ D is phenomenal. Kinsler and Roberts were both around average in 2007, but are poor this year.
ZIPS: Milledge: 466 HR, 485 2B, 2282 hits, 278-379-524
Brian Roberts is banned from the ASG under Lookout Landing policy. >:(

Heh.
I’ll never, ever forget the time my kid coerced BR’s young relative (nephew?) into cheering for J.J. Putz when he came in.

So does jose have a decent future now?
Or is he gonna shit the bed in the 2nd half again. At least he decided to work hard in the offseason on getting in shape unlike yuni’s fat ass.
he's still fatter than jose
I think if Yuni is the league’s worst defensive shortstop, then he is pretty much useless. Is Jose really as lazy as people say? I wish he’s either get a 30 more walks per season, or hit the weightroom a bit more
http://seattlesportsmaniac.blogspot.com
He's not the worst shortstop but he's below average,
which, combined with his below average hitting means he is ~less good than we hoped. Although a below average SS at his salary is still nice because it frees money elsewhere. But our FO is dumb and that money goes to Silva/Washburn/Tits/Sexson/ohmygodwehavesomanybadcontracts.
Go Nova
you got that mixed up
I was saying yuni is a fat ass and jose is the one who worked hard in the offseason.

I know, but from the looks of it
Jose still has 10 lbs of baby fat on him, I’m not sure how fat Yuni is, but I’d have to guess is bodyfat % is at least 5% lower than Jose’s?

I approve of the new logo.
Always good to mix things up occasionally. Seattlebruin, do you know what time the Finals game starts tonight (PST)?
I like midgets more than I should.
6 PM
In the infinite wisdom of the NBA, all the games are starting at 9ET, 6 PST, so that over half of America’s youth can’t stay up late enough to watch in the event that it’s a good game.

Yeah, wisdom and the NBA.. Right.
Thanks though!

Wow, it took me almost a full day to get that.
At least this one is capitalized.
