Posted again because I thought it was an interesting question.

Today’s Aflac trivia question:

Which of the following was the first U.S. based team to play in the Stanley Cup finals?
A. Seattle Metropolitans
B. Walla Walla Warriors
C. Portland Rosebuds
D. Spokane Chiefs

Correct answer is C.

Evidently Seattle was the first US team to actually win it though. Interesting.

Excellent.

I’ll have time to do some other work after the game, then catch Deadliest Catch.

Fun Fact: Thom Beers, executive producer of Deadliest Catch was also one of the producers of Captain Planet.

by BrianL on Jun 10, 2008 4:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Deadliest catch is unwatchable without video on demand and here is why:

Five minutes of show. Three minutes of what is coming up on the show when the show returns. 15 minutes of commercials. 3 minutes of what you just saw. 5 minutes of show. 3 minutes of what you will see when the show returns from commercial. 15 minutes of commercials. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

That seems like such a dumb concept.

I’ve driven ice roads. They’re not that treacherous.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Well, they can be when you are hauling a lot of heavy cargo.

Not generally as bad as the show makes it to be. I had to take an ice road to work every day for two years.

I watched two episodes

It seemed that every fuckup came from someone who driving ~60 on the roads with posted limits of 25-30 mph.

You guys know that the Discovery channel plays up the "danger" right?

‘cause no one would watch Mildest Catch. Except for maybe my Uncle Benny in Tennessee.

I'm aware of it.

But like you said, nobody is going to watch a show about accountants, or “Clean Jobs”.

The best one was the original Megazord

With the Dragonzord over its shoulders inside Titanus with a sword in one hand and mastadon head in the other.

fair enough

The first and second zord iterations were the best. Never cared much for Ninja or Shogun, and stopped watching at the end of Zeo

Ninja was pretty badass. But after they finished that I was done with the series.

I didn’t even have time to buy the Ninja Zord toys and they’d already moved on….I slowly waned off the Power Rangers shortly after the end of the Ninja rangers.

The Ninja/Shogun transition was really random

It was pretty clearly geared to sell more merchandise in retrospect

Same with the whole Pink Ranger saga going on then

You do realize

that you’re debating quite possibly the most formulaic children’s television show of all time.

Its been on for like 40 years and every season has the same formula.

The poster formerly known as Matt.

by bluemax on Jun 10, 2008 5:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They change zords every season

Only in America did they try to prolong the same cast/zords past one season. In Japan its a one shot deal.

The poster formerly known as Matt.

by bluemax on Jun 10, 2008 5:27 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

also that's why the green ranger was so cool

he broke the formula constantly

That episode was awesome.

I remember he got the shield just because the Green Ranger touched his chest and said “Here take my shield!” After that I got the genius idea to take the shield off my green flip-head ranger toy and put it on the Red Ranger.

the asian wore yellow

and then they realized the fucked up, so they fired the actors and flipped it so the black chick wore yellow, and the asian guy wore black.

What a racist show.

by JI on Jun 10, 2008 5:31 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Is that why they changed the Rangers?

I figured they just got tired of filming the Power Rangers.

by BrettJMiller on Jun 10, 2008 5:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

After a couple of seasons they decided it was too hard to try and maintain the same cast when the source material was designed around having a new cast/story each season. I think after the third season they decided to just follow the format of the Japanese show.

The poster formerly known as Matt.

by bluemax on Jun 10, 2008 5:34 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I read they left because they weren't getting paid shit

and Fox had to splice together stock footage of the actors until replacements were found.

and the red ranger was replaced :(
