Nothing planned...
however, only “might” go?!
This is the type we’re trying to avoid.
Commit one way or another so others can plan accordingly.
I’m in and I would like to see more commitments this time around.
Insert perverted sports related sexual innuendo
Ok let me rephrase then
I don’t think I have anything planned. I will have to check…
If I do go, I won’t be staying for th whole 5 hours.

June 15th is father's day
don’t know if that affects anyone else but if I have the day off I’ll be expected to spend at least a part of the day with him.
Graduation and my mother/brother being in town means I'm no-go
It’s their vacation, so I need to make sure they can get around. They don’t know the city at all.
But their flight departs on Sunday at 7:05, meaning if I drop them at the airport and you guys play until 5-6, I may be able to meet up for postgame food/beer.
I'll see what I can do
I haven’t made any reservations for father’s day yet, but I’ll do what I can to do whatever before 1pm. I’ll do my best to make it.

Ah, father's day
It just occurred to me: This is probably why Dave wanted to do this weekend. His family still lives here, right?
Softball, like mathmatics and most sciences, is for nerds.

Depending on what school you go to, its not that hard to believe
At my old high school in fort lauderdale, anyone who tried out made it to JV. I saw some pretty bad baseball there, fortunately, there were enough good regulars to not make the team look embarrassing.
He said there were not cuts at his school so he was on the team by default.

When a bunch of nerds get together and make a softball team, hilarity ensues. I played on my sister’s audiologist team vs. the speech pathology team. And let me tell you, speech pathologists are terrible hitters. Most of them didn’t even know how to STAND while up at the plate.

There's a little screen on the ball that says how fast you threw it

So I got bored and made Jeff Sullivan on MVP 2005`
He plays for Tacoma. Throws a 82mph 4 seamer, a 56 mph change, and a 56 mph curve.
I don’t use the fastball with him because 82 seems excessive.
by Graham MacAree on Jun 2, 2008 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions
Starting with a high school baseline and accounting for physical development:
Fastball: 75-80
Curve: 60
Slider: 65
Change: bad

Scouting scale:

2-seam: 25
Curve: 20
Slider: 20

Okay
I don’t know what my schedule’s gonna be like Sunday… but my mother/brother fly out around 7:30-8:00… meaning they would head to the airport around 5-6 pm at the latest. If I can make it work… if my mother/brother are okay will chilling out somewhere like a nice bookstore for a few hours before catching a cab or shuttle ride or something to the airport (and they have stated they have no problem with such a scenario)... I may be able to make this. I don’t want to make any guarantees, because obviously shit can happen, and the day may come and it may be clear this isn’t possible… but if I can make it to this, I will be there.
Provided I am not working that day, I am in.
And I want to catch Jeff and/or take a few swings. I might get lucky.
And I think my OOR is probably relatively decent (at least comparatively to the group). I like to think of myself as a serviceable outfielder… although I’d really prefer to think of myself as a good defensive middle infielder, but I think the number of times that I pull my head on ground balls suggests otherwise.

Just one of life's many penalties for breeding.
Actually, good for you for keeping your priorities straight. We’ll just have to enjoy “the greatest softball experience of all time” without you.
It's not actually my son, so it's not a breeding penalty.
But his Mom and I have been together for eight years, and I was “around” well before that. I’m not missing any of his graduation stuff for anything. Plus my niece graduates with him, so we’re combining the two parties into one. So I’d be screwing over the boy, and my first niece as well. Not gonna happen.

I too have a game at 1 pm on Mercer Island that day. But, like johnbai, could probably make it around 3 for the second game. Which I plan on doing.
My dad's iffy for this. May have to do an open house. If not he'll be there.

I just had a dream that we played this game around the river between Whistler and Blackcomb village in Canada.
Jeff was pitching while in the river. And he was throwing a football, not a softball. It was weird.

It's already built. We didn't modify it.
Matthew just decided the river was home plate, a tree (on the 3B side) was 1st base, the bridge was second, and the park was third. I tried to argue that he set up the bases backwards but no one listened :(

If the river was home plate
then why would Jeff be pitching from the river?
I think you’re hiding something!
Just deeper in the river. I'll draw a diagram from an overhead angle...

Keep in mind this setup in my dream was made by Matthew, and everyone told me I was wrong for saying it was backwards.

Some Info and Qeustions
My wife is going to come and take photographs of the game so I can put them on here and the photoshoping can begin.
Also, What possition does everyone play and should I bring anything (other than Glove, and bat)?
I Play LF, RF, CF, and a little 2B
I would prefer 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, or DH.
I could also play some RF, but I kind of suck at OF. I think it could be a good idea to get the teams somewhat organized before the game.
by Fin on Jun 5, 2008 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions
I usually play CF, RF, 1B, and 2B
I’m a lefty but I can manage anywhere. We’ll figure it out on the actual day.

I fucking hate you Mariners
I am almost assured to be there
I found a new day-job and the bowling alley still wants me on Saturday.
If we’re talking positions, I’m happiest at CF or MIF.

Sooo, i have a game of mine at Evergreen at noon thirty
soo, i’m going to head over to this event after i’m finished with that
Given that I tore something in my foot at basketball last night
I’m thinking 1st base or pitcher sounds about my speed.
Same here
But I could do the 2B thing if we really need it.

i call dibs on 2B!
thanks to my good reaction and glove but relatively weak arm… :p
Insert perverted sports related sexual innuendo
I lied before.
I will be able to make it on time to the the game. So now I’ll be kicking ass and taking names all day baby!
haha
This was because I was lying.
So therefore, I’ll be there on time as well.
And maybe bringing my sweetie to kick all you’re asses too.
OK, I'm a crack monkey
I was confusing the weekends. Brayden and I definitely have a 1pm game on 6/15, so we’ll be late. And right now, it looks like I’m bringing the lady. So I expect the 2girls1cup talk to be kept to a minimum!
Agreed.

Johnbai and Brayden's team...
is 6-0 in the mighty and fearsome Mercer Island Stroum Jewish Community Center C League. What could be more important than that!?
Also, today was the first game Big B was able to actually play.
Brayden’s first at bat in this league: mammoth homerun to straight away center.
Brayden’s second at bat: intentional walk.
Also today: I had an opportunity to hit my first ever walk off homerun… and fucked it up… popping out to the center fielder.
And not only that, but our
height advantage over our opponent today was ferocious! When teams see our bunyanesque team they cower in fear!
We need that sort of talent in our softball game
because I am more of a line drive hitter.
Jl/Robert '08: Promise for a CoachCage on Friday nights!
Alright well I feel bad.
But apparently when I told the Mrs. if she had made plans for the 15th, she didn’t realize that was Fathers Day. To make a long story short, her family made plans to go to Squim that day. Well I am kinda locked into a commitment there, since my father is in Iraq and I can’t see him or get him to come to game with me.
So I can’t make it :S. I feel bad cause i said I’d go, but I can’t or…well you know how the dog house is.
Sorry guys.
Not sure if I asked earlier
But will there be one on or around August 9th-12th?
This is all the space your sig should occupy.
You're right
How frequent are these though? Just wondering. I’m in town maybe only 3 times a year or so.

I think the people planning to show
should definitely consider inviting a friend or two… just to improve our chances of getting 18-20 folks.

Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Worst comes to worse,
you can play 3 teams with as little as 12 people which we should have easy or else you are all deadweight.
In case you are all totally baffled by this comment
I believe Matthew is talking about playing a version in which you make three teams of 4 to 5 players each. One team bats while the other two both play defense. You rotate after 3 outs and each team plays against a full defense.
I was baffled
Thanks for explaining that. (I know this sounds sarcastic but I am being serious).
Jl/Robert '08: Promise for a CoachCage on Friday nights!
Right,
Team A: bats
Team B: plays OF
Team C: plays IF
there’s some mixing that usually needs to happen to cover pitcher and catcher but you can cover everything with as little as 13 players.
so is this better than trying to do 2 teams of 6-7?
Jl/Robert '08: Promise for a CoachCage on Friday nights!
7 would be manageable.
Just have someone on the Batter’s team pitch. then you’re just missing a catcher and the pitcher can cover for plays at the plate

I should be able to go depending on how much Fuzz wants to lie to our boss
I have your name, address and phone number, Fuzz. Not to mention friends in high places. Don’t make me start pulling triggers….
I really wish this was not on Father's Day
I’ll be in Federal Way all day helping Pops do yard work. Have fun!
Now I'm gonna have to do everything I can to make it
I’ll be damned if this fizzles because of Father’s Day related wishy washiness.
Yea Father's Day throws a fucking bone in this
I am sorry guys you are going to have to scratch me out, I have to do some father’s day shit.
Jl/Robert '08: Promise for a CoachCage tomorrow!
I've missed every one of these games so far
and this one will be no exception to the apparent rule.
It’s a shame too, because this weekend’s events were right up my dad’s alley…he’s as big of a M’s fan as me and he used to be an avid softball player.
Yet another reason why retail isn’t in my relatively near future…
Call in sick, it's retail. What are they going to do?
