Mariners are winners in my book

Played on a summer baseball team with a bunch of "at risk" types and tonight I was reminded by Big Richie of one of my favorite baseball quotes: "It's not who wins the game, it's who wins the fight in the parking lot after the game." Richie got the teams hardest hit in weeks.

Look the Mariners might not be kicking ass but the are taking names. The season is over barring an improbable miracle but at least the Mariners will be able to audition a new first baseman while Richie serves a (minimum) 10 game suspension.

Ironically...

We actually don’t really have first base options. So Sexson actually managed to make this team even worse, in this instance.

...and now I'm here

Amendment -

Unless the put Raul in 1st and call up Jeremy Reed. That’d be super.

Go get Marshall Hubbard or Bryan LaHair

I can’t imagine either one would be that much worse.

by Gomez on May 9, 2008 11:56 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, this is true.

And I’d be all for that. Just saying they’re not really considered “options.” More like “defaults.”

Yeah

This is not to say either one is an answer, or even ready. But what the hell else are you gonna do at this point?

Great quote from Ron Washington
“I thought that was bull,” Washington said. “How tall is he, 6-13? Then you go out there on a little guy and throw a helmet?”

Kason Gabbard is 6-3, 200 lbs. Apparently to Ron Washington, being the second biggest player on the field makes you a little guy

Washington is just pissed

That Richie didn’t let it slide. I think he misses the turn the other cheek Mariners of years past.

Not that it was super close, but a fastball to the head does a lot of damage too.

And he’s whining about a plastic helmet?

I fucking hate you Mariners

The fact that he charged the mound

on a ball a foot or 2 from his head, tells you why his batting average is where it is. Lasic is your friend, Richie.

Yeah,

that worked so well for Boone.

Ahem. Your assertion is provably false.

The Mariners are included in “everybody”.
The Mariners do not win.
Ergo, everybody does not win.

So...

is it going to be Vidro Time or Raul Time over at 1st base?

I'm hoping for Cairo time

needs something to complain about

Broussard anyone?

He was DFA’d today. We should bring him back.

by csiems on May 9, 2008 3:09 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Well...

That’s a tremendous downer, considering he was traded to Texas so that he could spend more time with his family.

...and now I'm here

by CapSea on May 9, 2008 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, now he can!

He doesn’t have those annoying games to go that kept getting in the way of family time. He’s made more than enough money, I’m sure.

Is it just me, or is this AJ trade looking worse every day?

didn't he get a two-year deal?

Getting Broussard for nothing might be a good idea, but I’d rather go with Jac Jones or Jim Edmonds and stick Raul at 1B. Hell at this point Lehair or Reed might be a good idea.

Reed is a good idea.

I think you're reading your book upside down.

That’s why the lines on the graphs look like they’re going up.
