Sean Green acquired for reliever
Aaron Taylor. From the Rockies org.

Oh yeah.
Taylor was that big kid that bounced around here for a while, but never found a spot to stick.

"reply" helps.
I’m a moron sometimes. It’s the midgets that cause it.

They don't even want the Vietnamese on their side.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

I've tried everything from steaming to deep frying,
but it always ends up the same.

Try the crock-pot
it’s really more of an all-day stew sort of thing.

That's a great idea.

Did you know
that a disproportionate amount of midgets or rather dwarves kill themselves?

I like midgets, so I didn't need to hear that.

No worries
It was just a reference to the movie “In Bruges” which Llewdor was also referencing.

Hmmm...
I know they’d never can Bavasi during the season, especially before the draft, but honestly those of you who are concerned about losing Fontaine need to pay a little more attention. Yes, Fontaine has brought us better players using the draft than his predecessors. Hard not to improve from the zeros HIS predecessors gave us, though.
Fontaine is somewhat replaceable, but the message that’s perhaps missing is that a metric ton of our GOOD players - our BEST players - have come from the International scene.
That’s Bob Engle’s shop.
With Triunfel at the top of our remaining prospect list, that trend can and will continue.
I’ll acknowledge that Fontaine has brought some good players in lately (and two of the bigger pieces of the Bedard deal were also his guys)—but even right after the 2006 draft (and MORESO now that the Org has crapped on how he’s been developed), I thought Fontaine f’d up on the Morrow pick. Yeah, yeah, he wouldn’t’ve had Howie’s blessing to grab Miller (who actually is struggling a bit with FLA). Still, it was his call of Morrow over Lincecum and/or any number of other players who were worthy of a top-5 pick. Mangini is another questionable pick. He’s not a saint by any means.
I’m not saying we should dump Fontaine - not at all. He’s a good scouting director, and a great draft guy. But we also need to recognize that another guy in the organization has actually been MORE important to the farm system than Fontaine. If a side effect of losing Bavasi is losing Fontaine, that shouldn’t be something to be too horribly concerned about. There are many competent folks who can manage a draft, and the M’s have actually done a pretty good job of building their MLB-matriculating farm system without relying 100% on the draft - and they can continue to do so, even if they hire a low-VORSD (Value Over Replacement Scouting Director) to replace Fontaine, they’ll still be OK.

I miss my days in Spokane....
Great drinking town
The Chinese downhill -riding a bike down Division St and getting a beer at 6 Chinese resturants (all on one street and in less than a mile an half stretch)
-Around the World at Hucleberries takes proper budgeting and persistence.
Tanker beers (full gallon) at Flaming Joes in the valley. ($12.50 for Pabst)
-The Elk Cool place/good beer selection
The Viking Awesome place awesome beer selection.
-Skipping class and getting drunk in the AM at Jack and Dans.

Welcome to the realization
that the way baseball handles contracts, free agency usually occurs AFTER a career peak at age 27-28.
This puts you ahead of the Seattle Mariners front office.

I might move Willie into the assets category if they didn't run him out there as PH so God damn often
by seattlebruin on May 8, 2008 4:01 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I would if his contract were still league min or near it
but he’s over twice the league min at this point so I don’t think he’s an asset even properly employed.
by Matthew on May 8, 2008 4:04 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess, but on the other hand, $925,000 or whatever he's making
isn’t exactly a kings ransom for a useful piece off the bench.
Did you have a formula for doing this, or did you just estimate?
by seattlebruin on May 8, 2008 4:06 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Does anybody else think that when (if?) teams finally figure out that free agency as a whole
isn’t an effective way to build a solid club that the price of free agents will eventually fall, and things like signing bonuses to draft picks will increase by a significant amount?
I reject your reality and substitute my own!

It's entirely possible
but first the old guard of GMs is going to have to retire and younger, stats based guys will have to take over. I’d sense that eventually, if FA prices fell, you’d see GMs eventually start FA bidding wars and such – I bet it would be cyclical if anything.

So now that you've told us where they came from
Can you please tell us where they can go?

I have some suggestions.
They’re rated “M” for mature.

Brandon Webb was an 8th round pick?
Sheesh. It’s like buying a lottery ticket and waiting 4-5 years to see if you’ve won.
