Around SBN: 2011 In Extreme Home Runs

The team most like the 2008 Seattle Mariners

is...

apparently the 1990 Seattle Mariners.

Steven Goldman's article at BP today finds teams from history that are more like some teams from this season, through the first 30 games.

Strange Relations

It's a BP Premium article.

The 1991 Seattle Mariners turn out to be the best comp for the 2008 Blue Jays, which strikes me as an indication of how valuable this comparison isn't, since the '91 M's were poised to improve around a solid core of young players, while the Jays... aren't.

Krueger's Keys to the 1990 Season

- Skip his turn in the rotation whenever possible.
- Hit home runs, Griffey
- Get a lead at home and pray for rain- wait

Google Fight has the 1991 M's rotation winning 23 to 5.

Only because no one has any idea who Shaun Marcum, Jesse Litsch, and Dustin McGowan are yet.

Check out their pitch selection data over at Fangraphs, though. Toronto’s pitching coach is doing something odd.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Well played

I had an anthropology professor who would disagree with you, but he was an idiot.

Scary - that was my exact thought when I saw the link.

Next thing I’ll be thinking about our highways and the wonderfulness that is small town America.

Not if it's Vin

Because Vin Diesel sucks

In the name of the Bedard, the Felix, and the Ichiro, amen.

Excellent. I'll get my needles and dental floss ready.

And I’ll have this guy look after the kids next door:

publicity still from The Pacifier

complete with a buffed-out Mr. Diesel sporting an ammo belt with formula bottles in it. Oh, the hilarity. Link.

Yeah, see I'd agree usually

but the sheer awesomeness of “I live my life a quarter mile at a time,” “Doesn’t matter if you win by an INCH or a MILE! Winning is winning!” and “I NEVER SNITCHED ON NO ONE” as well as the entire Chronicles of Riddick tend to override my good judgment on Vin Diesel.

That movie had to be as good

as the Governator’s man-pregnancy movie.

Who would have thought

a Governator movie with Danny DeVito could go so wrong.

Oh, wait. Everyone.
