I think a fight might actually do this team some good.
I doubt it hurt.

Lowered Expectations = More Fun
I’ve become a fan by geography these past few years and only now am I experiencing a fraction of the pain M’s fans have had over the years.
At this point, I’m not expecting much from the team in terms of winning and have decided to just enjoy the games for what they are. More fun that way. It’s not a bad thing to cheer for a godawful team. It’s actually more entertaining.
With that said,
Rasner today = 8.1 IP, 2H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 22 K’s
It's a suck off!

This was the kid who was pitching for the Yanks when this happened right?
All I remember about that incident was that the ESPN anouncer was on the verge of tears becasue that blown call would rob the pitcher of a hard fought W. Gotta love that east coast bias.
Kazmir back today
Something to look forward to.
Go M’s! Go Rays!
What the Hell?

I don't think it's that bad
I mean considering what we know is gonna be thrown out there every day, this is a minor change and not bad. Yes half of our lineup can’t hit but we know that.
Huh
I wonder if all attempts at interspecies breeding in the wild have failed because of this.

Are you sure?
If memory serves, I think he was trying for Sexson and Delgado. At least I remember talk of Sexson moving to Left Field if they landed Delgado. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure I remember that…

by Jeff Sullivan on May 4, 2008 10:17 AM PDT up reply actions
I blame Jim Street
His article…
“Actually, the organization is still talking to Delgado and Beltre, although it seems unlikely that both would sign with Seattle.
‘I’m not surprised; I’m thrilled,’ Franklin added. ‘I’m happy for our team, the organization and everybody. I knew they were going to have to do something about our run production, which was the lowest in the league, and they added a home-run threat to the middle of our lineup. And he’s a good dude, man.’
At the moment, Sexson is penciled in at first base, though he would move to left field if the Mariners are successful in signing Delgado.
‘I’ve played it before and if I’m playing left field, that means we’ve got a pretty good first baseman over there,” he said. ‘If I’m not playing left field, I’m very comfortable at first base.’” – Jim Street

The M’s already can’t hit righties worth a damn, and Raul’s one of the few LHB in the lineup.
Unfortunately, the M’s collect DHs like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates collect dollar bills. :(

Shut the fuck up. Carlos Silva is playing very well for us.
Let's be honest, that was and will always be a wild overpayment
and Silva’s just doing what Washburn did early last season.
by Jeff Sullivan on May 4, 2008 10:20 AM PDT up reply actions
True.
When Silva sucks, he’ll give up lots of GB singles. When Washburn sucks, it’s 3 run homer time.

yeah kinda an overpayment
but i mean its still a supply/demand thing. the market for FA pitchers is insane.

I'd counter that this is the AL, and no lead is safe...
But you’ve probably already taken into account that the Mariners offense is inept, and therefore it isn’t very sporting to steal with a four run lead.

3 More Years of Kenji!!
Goddamnit this team crushes my soul
In the name of the Bedard, the Felix, and the Ichiro, amen.
He won't make it
If he embarrasses the team in some way like Sasaki did, Yamauchi will force him to retire.

Hopefully, this becomes “fired” at some point.

why would he walkk to the mound if he were fired?

Why?

They have been known to occasionally NOT get in the way of good teams.
Basically, they need to stay away from the lifers in the Old Boys Club, and try for an Antonetti, and they will be fine.

can convince Howard and Chuckie that they can make them more money

Winning pennants makes you money.

Prolonged rebuilding doesn't make you money
that would be the first thing a smart GM would do with this franchise.
also true
and no
With our pitching, a few INTELLIGENT fa moves could go a long way. This team does not need to be blown up.
by JI on May 4, 2008 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions
This is true
but Howie and Chuck are entrenched with their old-boys club hires. They look at an Antonetti and only see money lost.
You're right
but I still don’t see any reason that they’d abandon their Bavasi/Gillick type GMs in favor of the younger, smarter variety.
With Felix, Ichiro, Bedard and King Awesome? Not so much.
They need to be less stupid with the roster (read: quit signing bad DHs), and they’d be fine.
by eponymous_coward on May 4, 2008 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions
Only going to happen if they hire a smart GM.
In their minds, GMs like Beane/Antonetti/DePodesta = lost revenue. Ergo, never going to happen.

He's a pretty good GM
Problem is that he’s very set in his ways and would easily conflict w/ the FO. That’s why he’d make a good adviser to a dumb GM like Bavasi.
