Tonight: PDX baseball, beer and a rock show
Bummed that you couldn't go to the softball game because you live in portland? Don't worry. Tonight, I propose to drink up, walk to PGE park, then go to a show, and then drink some more. If this sounds like your cup of tea, let me know, or come by the Shanghai Tunnel in a few hours.
Other stops may include the B side, the Doug Fir, Satyricon and more. If you have nothing better to do than argue about Roman history, go see the beavs and try to get LL signs on tv or go to a punk show well, uh, yeah me too.

The Doug Fir's awesome
It’s where I ate dinner with Jesse from the Shins, and met Colin Meloy (who was not the man I thought he was.)
Ugh, I fucking hate the Doug Fir.
Their concert area downstairs is fine, but the bar itself BLOWS. The drinks are so incredibly overpriced.

I don't drink, remember
It’s a nice place to eat, people are nice, nice view of the city if you sit by the window, nice scene around it.
I don't like hipster douchebags
so I stay away from the bar. The showroom is good, though.

I'm going to see Peter Murphy tonight at the Aladdin
and before that I’m removing tile from my front hallway. Otherwise I would be in. Next time, more advance warning.

More advanced warning?
Never! LL flash mobs!
Nobody expects the Lookout landing snob brigades!
Peter Murphy cancelled
but not before the most annoying opening band in the world got a chance to play. I’ve never been at a show where the headliner cancelled right before going on stage.

You see?
Should’ve come out w/me. The headliners did not cancel.
I know it.
I thought of heading over towards the doug fir, but then the Lamp had pretty good beer on tap and didn’t require me to go very far, so there we had it.

I never went to the Doug Fir
but I did go to the B-Side, pretty close by.
That’s sort of a sentimental favorite… and anyway, it made more sense given the punk rockness of the evening.
The Queers are still pretty awesome, you know.
the queers are indeed still good
I haven’t been to the b-side in a few years, I like that place.

Great, great folks there
my friend and I stumbled upon it soon after it opened, and both of us make it a point to have a few drinks there every time we’re in portland now.
I used to worry about it a bit (seemed like there were never many people there), but man it was packed this weekend.
Maybe all the folks trying to escape parade fever on the west side.
I will start going back there regularly
once the smoking ban takes effect in January. I love that bar but I’m pretty much done walking out of places smelling like ashtray.

You must not go to the Horse Brass much.
That is one of the smokiest bars I’ve ever been to. I love that place, but I have a raw throat for about two days after going in there.

I stopped a while back
that place is awesome, but I can’t abide the smoke. My wife and I have a whole list of bars that we’ll start going to again come January – for now we spend a lot of time at the County Cork, because it’s smoke free, and the Mock Crest when it’s nice enough to sit on the deck outside.

Holy Ghost Revival is playing in Portland tonight.
Some place called the Backspace. They’re awesome.

Is it okay to reiterate now
That I went to Death Cab and saw Mates of State and Decemberists open for them? Last time I told you guys, Jordan posted an image calling me an attention grubber and telling me to go away… and I honestly was quite hurt.
Anyone else like Death Cab or Mates of State?
Death Cab annoys the crap outta me
I don’t know anything about Mates of State.

They're annoying too.
