Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

5/25: Open Game Thread, Part 2

The offense actually looks to have a plan today, which to say the least is a wee bit unsettling.

You don't really want that to happen, do you?

Imagine the hilarity if they fail to score any runs, and then the Yanks score 9 off of Washburn next inning.

What is this strange feeling

by lemonverbena on May 25, 2008 11:22 AM PDT reply actions

Isn't it funny that most teams get bases loaded

no outs, and get excited?
Mariners fans usually just wonder how we’re going to screw up, and are just dumbfounded when things go right?

How bout that double play!!

How bout the ugliest DP this year? You f-ing moron.

by lemonverbena on May 25, 2008 11:26 AM PDT reply actions

I'm leaving this team after 2009.

I figure Beltre and Bedard will be gone and by then they’ll have infuriated Felix to the point he says he’ll test free agency.

by Matthew on May 25, 2008 11:31 AM PDT up reply actions

Traded July '09

to bring in a new SP for the stretch drive that year because Wash and Tits still blow and we’re within 5 games of first place.

by Matthew on May 25, 2008 11:33 AM PDT up reply actions

I have a theorhetical limit on how much I can care about this team

and if they take away all the players I enjoy watching, why should I?

I’ll never stop rooting for them, but I could easily reduce the amount of games I actively watch to fewer than 20.

by Matthew on May 25, 2008 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions

ehh

I’ve sat through a lot of shit basbeall in my time. I could never even think of jumping ship no matter how much I would like.

by JI on May 25, 2008 11:38 AM PDT up reply actions

I love baseball.

The Mariners make me not love it. They seriously infuriate me. Watching that bases loaded innings I was actively angry.

by Matthew on May 25, 2008 11:41 AM PDT up reply actions

Okay, now that wouldn't be funny.

But I have no particular beef with the Cards. Except for the whole “resting place of Player A” thing.

by esoteric on May 25, 2008 11:30 AM PDT up reply actions

This is so hilarious...we really DON'T HAVE AN OFFENSE, PER SE.

When we score, it’s on dink singles or errors. Whatever happened to a bases-clearing double?

by esoteric on May 25, 2008 11:27 AM PDT reply actions

Edgar Martinez retired a few years ago

That’s what happened to the bases clearing double

by marinator on May 25, 2008 11:28 AM PDT up reply actions

Lopez

would need to come up in a bases loaded situation for that to happen.

Shockingly, no.

There’s a few different tiers you can get. I’m on the 15/2 package which is 52.99 a month, only a bit more than their DSL package.

Fair enough.

Me, I just write off baseball when the M’s and Padres are simultaneously awful.

But I realize this is too painful for some. I love baseball but I’m a football fan first, so.

i just don’t think i should be heckled for rooting against Tampa Bay on an M’s fan site.

again, I don't care who you root for...

...i’m just going to keep rooting against TB. and the Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, etc etc

by lemonverbena on May 25, 2008 12:06 PM PDT up reply actions

That's fine

as long as you understand that many of us are pulling for the Rays as a side project.

by Jeff Sullivan on May 25, 2008 12:08 PM PDT up reply actions

That's fine

I should point out, though, that rooting for the Rays is probably the best way or rooting against the Yankees or Red Sox, as they stand the best chance of denying one (or both) of the evil empires a playoff spot.

I really hope they do stay

I went to a few games while I lived in Seattle. Not a fan of Key Arena.

I'm not even that big of an NBA fan

I’m a fan of “don’t be a pansy bitch owner like Clay Bennett and his annoying cronies”

by seattlebruin on May 25, 2008 11:57 AM PDT up reply actions

I actually like Key Arena.

It’s an honest-to-God sporting venue that doesn’t cater towards the “family experience.”

by BrianL on May 25, 2008 11:59 AM PDT up reply actions

It's a great place to watch a basketball game

it’s a terrible place to watch a hockey game and, importantly, it’s a terrible place for corporate suites.

by Matthew on May 25, 2008 12:02 PM PDT up reply actions

You know, I was thinking about that, and I realized that I like arenas that cater to entertainment

because yeah, mostly, I’m a fan of winning, but since I don’t get to that many games between not having much money (yet) and living in SD, when I get to Safeco, I’m there to enjoy the park and enjoy live baseball as much as I am invested in the team winning. Of course I’m much happier when they win, but if they lose, it won’t ruin my ballpark experience, like it ruins my day when they lose and I watch.

(that’s before this season of course. Go Strasburg!)

BTW, Nationals 4, Brewers 0

Ned Yost = not long for his job.
Tim Redding = shockingly decent this year.

by esoteric on May 25, 2008 11:59 AM PDT reply actions

The Brewers are awesome, they've gotten Redding's ERA under 3.00.

It blows my mind to see a Nats starter with over 60IP with a 2.95 ERA.

Hell, it would blow my mind to see an M’s starter with over 60IP and a sub-3.00 ERA.

Is A-Rod worth much more than Beltre?
