5/25: Open Game Thread, Part 2
The offense actually looks to have a plan today, which to say the least is a wee bit unsettling.

Stayyyyyying alive...
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
Not disaster.
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
You don't really want that to happen, do you?
Imagine the hilarity if they fail to score any runs, and then the Yanks score 9 off of Washburn next inning.
Since Wang walked the bases loaded
he’s thrown 2 strikes and 7 balls.
they seriously must not watch other people's ABs
or they’re dumber than goldfish.
Count should be 3-0
But… Yuni’s swinging to not K at this point

That kid isn't fat enough to have a Chamberlain shirt.

We do have a problem
It’s a lack of accountability in the clubhouse

No Sims, that wasn't a great at bat.
Just a nice result.
So I just showed up
Why hasn’t Jerkface been shelled yet?
He got w/ Bavasi's daughter.
WE’RE GOING TO THE WS!!!!
Isn't it funny that most teams get bases loaded
no outs, and get excited?
Mariners fans usually just wonder how we’re going to screw up, and are just dumbfounded when things go right?

TAKE THATTTT

I'm leaving this team after 2009.
I figure Beltre and Bedard will be gone and by then they’ll have infuriated Felix to the point he says he’ll test free agency.
Traded July '09
to bring in a new SP for the stretch drive that year because Wash and Tits still blow and we’re within 5 games of first place.
I am going to buy a gun
I may then go on to use that gun

I have a theorhetical limit on how much I can care about this team
and if they take away all the players I enjoy watching, why should I?
I’ll never stop rooting for them, but I could easily reduce the amount of games I actively watch to fewer than 20.
ehh
I’ve sat through a lot of shit basbeall in my time. I could never even think of jumping ship no matter how much I would like.
I love baseball.
The Mariners make me not love it. They seriously infuriate me. Watching that bases loaded innings I was actively angry.
Okay, now that wouldn't be funny.
But I have no particular beef with the Cards. Except for the whole “resting place of Player A” thing.
This is so hilarious...we really DON'T HAVE AN OFFENSE, PER SE.
When we score, it’s on dink singles or errors. Whatever happened to a bases-clearing double?
To be fair,
the M’s did the right thing there. Line drive to 1st, runners go back.
my guess is that a large percentage LL'ers only pretend to know what this means
i am not among them. i have no idea.

You suck at everything. Verizon’s FiOS is vastly superior to anything you offer.

Why the hell hasn't Washburn been shelled yet!?
Joh’s catching! He’s supposed to get shelled!
Fiberoptic "network"
Nice spin.
I’d rather have a fiber connection plumbed straight into my house, thank you. Oh wait, I have FIOS. I already have a fiber connection plumbed straight into my house.
Fuck off, Comcast.
Is FIOS expensive?
as compared to Cuntcast?

Shockingly, no.
There’s a few different tiers you can get. I’m on the 15/2 package which is 52.99 a month, only a bit more than their DSL package.
Lucky bastard.
I have to wait for I don’t know how long, here in Beaverton, OR.

only reason this is watchable is that it's in HD on national tv
and it’s the last M’s game in Yankee Stadium.
still watching the 2008 M’s on MLB.tv = masochism.

Does anybody know if Dave Niehaus
was in Cooperstown recently?
They should be mentioning it a lot, it's a big deal
For the sole reason that Dave hasn’t gone completely insane from watching and broadcasting Mariner games for so long.
How do you know he just isn't really high
on Stephen Strasburg?

TELLINGLY HILARIOUS GAMEDAY MOMENT:
One of the Mariner’s selected video highlights thus far? “Sexson comes home, SEA 3 NYY 1, Top 4”
Our highlights are fielding errors.
Weak effort!
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
You make that sound like a bad thing

but there is that whole woefully guilty feeling when you sneak back into bed with the M’s
But at the time it feels awesome then

No doubt
I mean come on, Rays is young and sexy. Willing to do all the crazy things M’s used to do when the marriage was fresh.
Rays has really been getting around though
You are not the only one knocking on her door if you know what I mean. I hope you have been smart about it.

...i’m just going to keep rooting against TB. and the Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, etc etc

That's fine
as long as you understand that many of us are pulling for the Rays as a side project.
by Jeff Sullivan on May 25, 2008 12:08 PM PDT up reply actions
That's fine
I should point out, though, that rooting for the Rays is probably the best way or rooting against the Yankees or Red Sox, as they stand the best chance of denying one (or both) of the evil empires a playoff spot.
We're all football fans first now, I think
The only well run sports franchise in town
Yes.
Graham is the only exception to this rule.
Too bad I guess
This cajun boy is a Saints fan all the way. I’ll root for your ‘Hawks if the Saints aint playing though. Same with the Hornets/Sonics

I actually like Key Arena.
It’s an honest-to-God sporting venue that doesn’t cater towards the “family experience.”
It's a great place to watch a basketball game
it’s a terrible place to watch a hockey game and, importantly, it’s a terrible place for corporate suites.
You know, I was thinking about that, and I realized that I like arenas that cater to entertainment
because yeah, mostly, I’m a fan of winning, but since I don’t get to that many games between not having much money (yet) and living in SD, when I get to Safeco, I’m there to enjoy the park and enjoy live baseball as much as I am invested in the team winning. Of course I’m much happier when they win, but if they lose, it won’t ruin my ballpark experience, like it ruins my day when they lose and I watch.
(that’s before this season of course. Go Strasburg!)

by Jeff Sullivan on May 25, 2008 11:49 AM PDT up reply actions
Ah, Carlos. The Li'l Fat Man played for the Nats in 2005.
Seeing him waddle helplessly around the bases during his last year in baseball was a grotesquely beautiful sight.
If we get out of the inning unscathed.
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
It was a good play either way.
Not his fault if Washburn screws it up.
Richie should use some of his contract money to get extensions put in his legs so he's nine feet tall
I would prefer
he got extensions in his neck so he can be Giraffe-like.
That's Sexson's defensive highlight DVD, right there.
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
No way, when we signed him
The papers talked about our all gold glove infield
http://seattlesportsmaniac.blogspot.com
Fun Quiz! What M's will play again in (original) Yankee Stadium after today?
Ichiro (All-Star Game)
Green (traded to Boston)
I met him one time
He seems like a genuinely good person. Very sincere, great to talk with. Can’t be any worse than Blowers.
My dad was the coordinator for our little league
and one year he got Dan Wilson and Jamie Moyer to show up at the instructional clinic. Two of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in my life.
by seattlebruin on May 25, 2008 11:55 AM PDT up reply actions
My aunt lived next to him in Magnolia.
I would walk down the street thinking of ways I could meet him, ingratiate myself with him and his family, and become his adopted son.
BTW, Nationals 4, Brewers 0
Ned Yost = not long for his job.
Tim Redding = shockingly decent this year.
The Brewers are awesome, they've gotten Redding's ERA under 3.00.
It blows my mind to see a Nats starter with over 60IP with a 2.95 ERA.
Hell, it would blow my mind to see an M’s starter with over 60IP and a sub-3.00 ERA.
Unfortunately it's only a matter of time before Tim Redding breaks himself
by Jeff Sullivan on May 25, 2008 12:01 PM PDT up reply actions
Tim Redding was a guy I wanted the Ms to get two years ago
when he was available for the price of a minor league contract.
He just retired the Brewers on 10 pitches in the 5th.
So far, 76 pitches, 7K, 1BB, 0R. His ERA is now down to 2.90.
I’m under no illusions as to how much the Nats suck, but I’ll take every tiny victory I can get. I still have faith in their FO and long-term strategy, unlike the M’s.
The Nats have specialized in matchstick men over the last three years.
Patterson, Hill, Redding, N. Johnson, Alex Escobar, and even…Chris Snelling!
I'll get to the bullpen right away

Yes, please go.
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
Is A-Rod worth much more than Beltre?
As far as all around defense, speed, and hitting.
I’d say he’s worth more, but not by much.
Isn't Beltre's range a lot better?
I wonder how many more runs Beltre saves and how many more runs A-Rod produces with his bat
A-Rod is a average to good glove who is the best hitter in the American League.
I’d wager he creates more runs than Beltre saves.
I didn't realize you were so rich
that $10 million per year was considered “not much”
http://seattlesportsmaniac.blogspot.com
Dumb question:
Is that Blowers or Wilson doing commentary?
Jarrod Washburn is pitching with a lead in the 6th in Yankee Stadium
dogs and cats, living together…

HOLY BELTRE
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.

Whooo no more going to Baker's blog today.
Lot of Ichiro hate going on.
Unmoderated message board
What could possibly go wrong? Wait…
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
Watch an episode of American Idol
compare notes with a 12 year old as to why you enjoyed/hated it. If they match up you’re boned.
What could you possibly hate about Ichiro?
He’s not providing enough leadership?
http://seattlesportsmaniac.blogspot.com
Even though its stupid to hate Ichiro
Its even stupider to get on his case today, when he’s hit a homerun, and gotten on base two other times.
This is what makes me laugh the most.
People seem to bitch about him when he’s having a great game.
Mariners on National TV?
No surprise it would be against the Yankees.
All Games and Comments are Subject to Blackout
Note that Riker is laughing in the corner of that picture.
That’s because he can’t believe that the M’s got an XBH with RISP either.
Worf started Wang on his fantasy team today.
Jason Ellison, your Seattle Mariners legacy will not be forgotten.
Should have signed Edgar and Bone to one-day contracts
and started them in RF and DH today.
I don't mind if Vidro gets hot..
As long as we keep losing, and trick some team into trading for a “professional” switch hitter
http://seattlesportsmaniac.blogspot.com
That would be the best possible scenario
A good prospect for Vidro would be outstanding, although you’d have to find a really stupid team in the playoff hunt which won’t be easy.
