Only thing I can think of
Is that they had this planned already before today, so they use Baek again in back to back games knowing it isn’t a big issue and the results be damned.

He pretty clearly didn't have a role on this team
We’re no worse off without him, but I do hope he’s able to land somewhere with a team willing to give him an extended look in the rotation. He deserves that chance.
by Jeff Sullivan on May 21, 2008 7:57 PM PDT up reply actions
I agree but not
I didn’t have a problem hanging onto Baek, but with the 7 man bullpen we’re obsessed with keeping around, he was virtually pointless.
I agree that he should have all the chances in the world with someone else. Christ if Kyle Lohse can find work, Baek can.

Baek just isn't a bullpen guy
he needs to be starting to have any value, and since he wasn’t about to go back to Tacoma, this is the only option. For two months he’s served no real purpose.
Decent dude, wrong team.

He's an NL pitcher anyway
Take away the DH, and his crap will work okay enough for 5-6 innings a night.

Thanks Wikipedia!
In 2002 he celebrated the first anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by allegedly hooking up with a 16-year old girl who worked at the concession stand at Angel Stadium. Washburn was investigated by local authorities in Los Angeles for this incident, which his wife did not enjoy.
I like the part about his wife not enjoying it.
Did you read the whole thing?
Read his whole wikipedia page.

That page is hilarious
As an eight-year Major League veteran who had just completed what he thought was a great season (8 wins), he felt he deserved a lucrative multi-year contract. The Angels, however, were a smart team and were not interested in making such an expensive commitment to a shitty pitcher like Washburn.

I wonder what the record is for most players DFAed by a team in a single season is, and when will we break it?
Someone say something witty.
I thought they should have dealt him before the season
considering they had no role for him, and he couldn’t be sent to Tacoma.
I won't really miss him or anything BUT
I would miss Jarrod Washburn even less.
How much longer will they continue running this guy out to the mound to get blasted? He’s very clearly a finished pitcher.
I think even Mac has his limit.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Washburn is sent to the bullpen in the next week.
I wouldn't count on it
I mean, you might see Dickey get a spot start or two, but as long as all of the 3-4-5 guys are struggling, I doubt you see one of them removed.

This was actually my first idea.
I was going to take the LADIES… picture and put “Little” in front of it on a Washburn picture. Second idea was to paste Washburn’s face onto Pedobear.
But then I found that above picture of Washburn and I just thought… “oh god, this is too easy”. The real clincher was finding that picture of the little girl. I don’t know who she is, but I just want to say that whomever you are, I am sorry that you are forever associated with Jarrod Washburn and pedophilia and I hope that you have a long and rich life free of Jarrod Washburn and pedophilia.

Probably Dickey.
Gives the roster a bit more flexibility. If Washburn continues to suck up the place, Hyphen can enter the rotation and Dickey can take the long-man job. If Tits continues to struggle, Dickey can enter the rotation and Hyphen can take the long-man job.
So we got tits, pedo, dickey

So I'm still a little confused why we cut Baek.
I don’t get it.
So what I don't get is how this move improves the team.
Thats usually why you make a move right?
by Edgar for Pres on May 21, 2008 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions
It doesn't make the team worse and it makes both Baek and (presumably) Dickey happy
by Jeff Sullivan on May 21, 2008 9:49 PM PDT up reply actions
At least Bavasi can do one thing well.
He goes out of his way to make sure his players are treated right, trading Ben to Texas being the best example.
As much as I despise Bavasi the General Manager, I can’t deny he’s a good person. The team doesn’t get any worse without Baek, and now both him and Dickey have the opportunity to be happy and contribute to ML clubs.
Fuck that
I’m tired of saying that Bavasi was a good guy. Sure he’s made a couple overpaid players happy but he’s making little kids cry every day who have to watch this pathetic team.
by Edgar for Pres on May 21, 2008 10:29 PM PDT up reply actions
It is okay to differentiate baseball from life every now and then.
I’m happy both Baek and Dickey are going to get a chance to contribute for ML clubs.
Are you also happy that Bavasi has been so kind to give
VIdro and Cairo a chance to contribute for ML clubs?
by Edgar for Pres on May 21, 2008 11:10 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm not saying that he's a good GM, you're twisting my words.
The point I’m trying to make is that it is possible to be happy for someone.
Baseball aside, Bavasi has taken care of his employees. From an employer/employee viewpoint, he’s a good man to work for. If he was my boss, I’d probably be very happy.
I can’t stand Bavasi the GM, but Bavasi the human being is a pretty nice guy. I’d have a beer with him.
If my liver wasn’t shot.
Yeah twisting words is fun
At some point I don’t care how nice of a guy he is. He’s driven this team into the ground. If your boss was really considerate but was causing the company to fall apart would you support him. I bet not.
by Edgar for Pres on May 21, 2008 11:33 PM PDT up reply actions
You realize the problem lies further up, yes?
Even if Bavasi gets canned Lincoln and Armstrong are going to bring in another Bavasi (See: Krivsky, Wayne).
I really don’t understand why you’re taking offense with me being happy for Baek and Dickey.
