To be fair, though,

nothing is REALLY awesome about this.

HAHAHA Slam that bat Boggs

Pop goes the buttsy on the left hand side!!

Looking through those presentations from the conference

Did they ever mention what clustering algorithms they’re using for pitch identification?

by Graham MacAree on May 14, 2008 2:31 PM PDT up reply actions

yes.

MLBAM uses Neural Nets. They also looked at KNN and something else

by Matthew on May 14, 2008 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions

So all supervised learning then?

I like neural nets but I wonder how well unsupervised Kmeans would do on the data.

by Graham MacAree on May 14, 2008 2:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Fair play

Don’t have to do real-time stuff in genomics so I don’t know what tricks they’d use there.

by Graham MacAree on May 14, 2008 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Serial?

The best I ever saw was like a 3 or a 4. yuck. Business majors are where its at.

I don't believe you

Pics or it didn’t happen.

Every girl at UCLA is attractive.

It’s part of their admissions requirements.

...and now I'm here

by CapSea on May 14, 2008 2:49 PM PDT up reply actions

I think you of all people would love UCLA

43% Asian, 55% girls, 35,000 students. You do the math.

by seattlebruin on May 14, 2008 2:50 PM PDT up reply actions

I do.

Though UW is 35%, so not far off. But yes, I would love to go to UCLA for grad school.

...and now I'm here

by CapSea on May 14, 2008 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Me either.

They get like 400 applicants for their program, accept only 5, and they are one of the best programs in the country. I don’t think I’m even going to bother applying.

...and now I'm here

by CapSea on May 14, 2008 2:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh well

they let me go for undergrad, so good enough

by seattlebruin on May 14, 2008 2:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I wanted to go to UW, so I was happy.

Still.

I will, however, visit often if I can get some extra $$

USC girls >>>> UCLA girls

But all CS girls, no matter the campus, are… well, uh… they have great avatars.

Today's game is like a V chord followed by a vi chord.

Just when you think it’s over and about to resolve to a nice conclusive I chord, BAM! that damn vi chord shows up and adds another ten measures.

Because I do that to my friends in the band room all the time… some huge ass progression, and CAD6/4, V, vi…

Some people cut themselves. I root for the Mariners.

by ColbyInBoston on May 14, 2008 2:34 PM PDT reply actions

Good point

He did leave the franchise with no farm system and a major league club filled with veterans who have all fallen off the cliff.

BB did rebuild our minors pretty well. Just can’t form an actual team to win games.

by AtomicGarden on May 14, 2008 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Um. He didn't leave the franchise with no farm system.

Felix, Lopez, Sherrill, Hyphen, Potatoes, Feierabend, Balentien, Baek, Jones, Lowe, Putz, and several others say hello.

Gillick did mess some things up, but he didn’t leave the farm system as barren as people believe…

Perhaps

He punted too many drafts, I agree, but he didn’t neglect the farm system. He gets credit for Engle’s work—if Bavasi gets credit for Fontaines, especially…

Ill Ligitamus Non Carberendum

by PositivePaul on May 14, 2008 2:55 PM PDT up reply actions

ok

No farm system is not accurate. I’ll just stick to the big league club being old and crappy without a great backup plan.

Y'know, Washburn being used as a one inning pitcher

Makes a shitton of sense. The guy sucks after 90 pitches right? Seems to always do well in his first 25… why the FUCK NOT?

by The Typical Idiot Fan on May 14, 2008 2:48 PM PDT reply actions

Well trade him as a "dominant closer"

Like GS52.

Or just keep him, use him as a super LOOGY (splits against lefties are good) and stick Morrow, Baek, or RR-S in the rotation instead.

by kentroyals5 on May 14, 2008 2:55 PM PDT reply actions

Okay then....

That wasn’t how I expected to spend my work day.

I like midgets more than I should.

by Thingray on May 14, 2008 2:55 PM PDT reply actions

I'm not that insane on the Washburn = Bullpen Master idea am I?

Washburn:

Pitch 1-25: .239 / .302 / .367 – 16.7% strikeouts, 7.5% walks, 2.7% HR
Pitch 25-50: 244 / .295 / ..393 – 14% strikeouts, 6.4% walks, 2.5% HR

It’s after that things go way down hill. Heck, let him throw an inning or two and dominate.

Am I totally bonkers here?

Fans are typically idiots.
