Looking through those presentations from the conference

Did they ever mention what clustering algorithms they’re using for pitch identification?

by Graham on May 14, 2008 2:31 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

yes.

MLBAM uses Neural Nets. They also looked at KNN and something else

by Matthew on May 14, 2008 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

So all supervised learning then?

I like neural nets but I wonder how well unsupervised Kmeans would do on the data.

Today's game is like a V chord followed by a vi chord.

Just when you think it’s over and about to resolve to a nice conclusive I chord, BAM! that damn vi chord shows up and adds another ten measures.

Good point

He did leave the franchise with no farm system and a major league club filled with veterans who have all fallen off the cliff.

BB did rebuild our minors pretty well. Just can’t form an actual team to win games.

by AtomicGarden on May 14, 2008 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Um. He didn't leave the franchise with no farm system.

Felix, Lopez, Sherrill, Hyphen, Potatoes, Feierabend, Balentien, Baek, Jones, Lowe, Putz, and several others say hello.

Gillick did mess some things up, but he didn’t leave the farm system as barren as people believe…

Washburn:

Pitch 1-25: .239 / .302 / .367 – 16.7% strikeouts, 7.5% walks, 2.7% HR
Pitch 25-50: 244 / .295 / ..393 – 14% strikeouts, 6.4% walks, 2.5% HR

It’s after that things go way down hill. Heck, let him throw an inning or two and dominate.
