I really hope the Celtics pull out this series

Because I had a chance to take the Cavs at 85-1 to win it all at the MGM on Friday night and didn’t because the book was closed. If they win it all, I am going to massively regret it.

Online gambling is still basically legal in California :)

I love parlays. I hate the Oklahoma State for the worst sports bet loss of all time, while we’re on the subject

I took Texas -2.5 @ OSU earlier this year. UT is up 3, OSU has the ball with about ten seconds to play – they miss, foul Augustin, he makes two free throws – five point game with 8 seconds to play. OSU runs down the court, and their guy heaves in a 30 footer with two seconds to play to cut the lead to two…. and then they don’t foul on the inbounds and cover by half a point.

You have any websites you use that are trustworthy?

I signed up for one, but they wanted my social security number, and I don’t give that to anyone unless I’m 100% sure I can trust them.

Also, none of them take credit cards or paypal, but I don’t know which companies I can trust (Firepay, etc.) to use instead.

Regarding the Johjima thing

There is a noticeably different opponent batting line between when Joh catches and when Burke / Clement catch. I know that simple analysis of stat lines like that don’t help us uncover shit, but could there be a pitch selection difference that’s resulting in the higher results?

Is it Johjima calling games more like they would in Japanese games? Do they throw more fastballs there? Does it really matter since the pitcher has the choice of what to agree to throw?

With word that Roger Hansen has come up to the club to deal with the “issues” between Washburn’s suck and Johjima, should we send somebody another Blog Letter wakeup call?

Fans are typically idiots.

by The Typical Idiot Fan on May 13, 2008 6:40 PM PDT reply actions

I know

I was thinking that with the lovely pitchfx data that we get, we can figure out the differences or percentages of pitches called by Joh vs. the other catchers.

Fastballs, especially on this piss poor fastball throwing team, result in a lot more hits and extra base hits. If there’s some correlation there, maybe there IS a problem with Joh, but still not anything that Washburn is talking about.

Fans are typically idiots.

by The Typical Idiot Fan on May 13, 2008 6:43 PM PDT up reply actions

PITCHf/x definitely grants the ability to analyze this

but unfortunately it would take a pretty freaking long time. I don’t, however, understand why we should believe that a career minor leaguer knows how to handle a Major League pitching staff any better than Johjima does.
