Pitcher Abuse Points: Felix Hernandez
From BP, PAP ranking in 2008 season to date:
1. Gil Meche
2. Adam Wainwright
3. Scott Olsen
4. Brett Myers
5. Chris Young
6. Jake Peavy
7. Felix Hernandez
I am quite concerned about this. In the last few games, Felix's command was wild. This might be a sign of being tired. For your reference, the pitch counts of his 8 outings are: 97, 97, 117, 115, 110, 115, 105, 112. I don't like this.

it'a not like he's throwing over 120...
an above average MLB pitcher should be expected to throw that many pitches in a game. And Felix is way above average. I’m not concerned.
better to throw 100 pitches a game...
...than to be pulled after giving up 7 runs in 60 pitches.
br
It was bigger. I shrunk it.
...and now I'm here
PAP made sense when some pitchers were throwing 140 pitches in a game
but that’s mostly stopped happening. No one throws category IV or V starts anymore.

Yeah
Though that doesn’t keep PAP from making sense now, it’s just that posting the ranking without putting in the raw PAP totals doesn’t make much sense. And PAP was never much more than a rough guide, anyway.
I think it’s fair to show some concern over Felix’s pitch counts, but nothing awful has happened yet. If this is a prelude to 130-140-pitch games in the future, then there could be problems.
Plus, Felix also has the second highest average pitches/game in baseball
suggesting that his pitch counts are remarkably consistent. I’d say that suggests a lower danger of extremely high pitch-count games.

I was just thinking
Now that we have all this pitch data has anybody looked at how much better/worse SP stuff gets as the game (or pitch count) increases?
