Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Francisco Rodriguez's Ankle Is All Bollocksed Up

His fastball's paying the price, and to top it all off he can also barely throw strikes. Just blew a save against Cleveland in spectacular fashion before deciding that the pain is a little too much and coming out of the game. (The Angels won on a Hunter walk-off. Why? Because fuck you, that's why.)

2007 FB Velocity: 93.6mph (94.8 in 2006)
2008 FB Velocity: 91.9

2007 Strike%: 61%
2008 Strike%: 48%

2007 Slider%: 39.2%
2008 Slider%: not sure but very very low

Happy contract year, Francisco. And more importantly, despite the win tonight, the Angels are coming apart at the seams. Whoever wins this division is going to be like the worst division winner of all time.

Tuesday Update: Rodriguez is now having problems with both ankles and a DL stint seems possible, even likely. Meanwhile in New York both Jorge Posada and Derek Jeter are possibly DL bound as well. Oh, and Rich Harden has a rotator cuff strain.

Er Southeast

Which division was threatening to crowd a sub-.500 champ? Maybe that was last year, but the East is threatening to send two sub-.500 teams to the playoffs.

by Gomez on Apr 8, 2008 11:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Doesn't that happen every year?

Is the Southeast the worst in every sport that has it?

Ugh this does not make me happy

Frankie already scared the hell out of me every time he pitched with his walks and wild pitches and doubles. He always had to make things interesting.

Now, he either has the choice of altering his delivery (making him less effective) or getting injured. Plus, Shields has been on a pretty bad streak from the end of last year (AWESOME contract extension, Stoneman), and so it's looking like Speier is the only one who can be counted on in the pen.

I'm gonna just have to drink a lot from the seventh inning on.

Lookout Landing

Where we want everyone to pull a Lynyrd Synyrd.

Fun Fact: Angels third baseman Chone Figgins' first name is actually pronounced "Shawn." And his last name is actually pronounced "Weinberg" (it's a silent "Figgins").

Apparently both of his ankles are hurt now

Trip to the DL imminent. Now you know how it feels Angels

And Spieir (sp) just blew a save today. Shields

is still hurt and looks shaky. Bootcheck is out. They have just as bad of a bullpen situation as us -- if not worse.

From Scioscia in regards to F-Rod

"We're concerned about how it will influence his delivery and the stress on his arm," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "This thing will heal, but we don't want to put him at any undue risk."

He's worried about the injury influencing his delivery and stress on his arm? With his mechanics you'd think an injury might help alleviate some stress and risk!
