Putting the pressure on
so with the M's struggling offensively, and more and more talk coming around about the guys that aren't producing being on a short leash.... what happens?
Well lets see... tonight Jeremy Reed is 3-3 with a double, walk, run scored, and 2-rbi
Jeff Clement is 2-3 with a walk, and a run scored
and last but not least... Wlad is 2-4 with 2 homeruns, 2 runs scored and 3-rbi.

It's their job to earn their spot in the major's.
It’s the major leaguer’s jobs to keep them stuck in AAA.
It’s the management’s job to be fucking retardedly stupid.
Stupid wins.

Well...
It’s their job to earn their spot in the major’s. This is true, they do have to earn a shot
It’s the major leaguer’s jobs to keep them stuck in AAA. Also true, if your major leaguers are performing there’s no reason to replace them.
It’s the management’s job to be fucking retardedly stupid Unfortunately this is true because our major leaguers truly suck right now and could be replaced.
However, no one wanted Clement on the opening day roster if I recall because he needed every day at-bats….. Wlad wasn’t ready… and no one really liked Reed, so them being in AAA is understandable. How long they remain there determines whether management remains stupid or not. IMO

haha, awesome update
Promote all 3! cut Wilk, bench Vidro, give Clement regular time!
BURN THE TREE
http://seattlesportsmaniac.blogspot.com
I don't think Vidro needs to be DFA'd
he’s got value as a pitch hitter off the bench, especially being a switch hitter, and since they’ll have to pay him either way. Plus he can rest Lopez on occasion as opposed to Willie.
Vidro just shouldn’t be an everyday regular, but he’s not complete throwaway garbage either even with his slow start.

$6 Million Dollar Pinch Hitter
Seems kind of a waste, then I remember Miguel Cairo is a 850k bench warmer.
Better to use it sparingly than to throw it away.

But my god he's a good bench warmer.
You know his secret? Beans. He eats about a pound of beans a day. Once the flatulence starts flowing, those benches warm up like summer in the desert.
...and now I'm here
unfortunately
DFA’ing him doesn’t get them out from under the 6 Million Dollar salary.

Man, I’m not even a business major and somehow that has been drilled into my head.

Exactly
So if we have to pay his salary regardless of whether or not we keep him then there is no reason not to keep him if he is more useful as a pinch hitter than his potential replacements.
I'd cut Cairo, bench Vidro and Wilk and send Cairo and a RP down
probably Lowe. We don’t need 12 pitchers and I’d rather have Wilkerson on the bench than Norton.
You'd cut Cairo AND send Cairo down.
That’s cold, man.
...and now I'm here
Yeah, fuck that guy.
Should read “send Norton and”
Lowe over Morrow?
Any reason why, or is this just the more likely move?
The poster formerly known as Matt.
Lowe has really struggled with his command
the last couple outings…. coming back from not hardly pitching last year and getting back in the groove at AAA might not be a bad option. He’s pulled a Morrow so far this year and walked 7 in 7innings.

at least clement
In my video game franchise, I made my dream moves for what the Mariners should have done. I brought up Clement and Wlad, cut Cairo and Wilk. RA Dickey over Baek. I signed Bonds. Obviously the real life Mariners are too scared to change up so spots at once.
So what to do? One step at a time. Clement, more than any other option, is TEARING it up in AAA right now while the big club has three power posistions doing absolutely nothing. So bring in Clement and integrate him into the DH/C spots. See what happens. If Wilkerson continues to suck, which he will, give Wlad or shot or continue looking for trade options.
But we must do something. Right?
At least the A’s are beating the Angels 14-2. Makes me feel better.
Woot
In my 2k8 game, the Bedard deal never happened and Wilkerson wasn’t signed, so I have more wiggle room to do what I want. Unfortunately it doesn’t feel that realistic. I traded Sexson and Washburn for Aubury Huff and Bedard. For some reason the game rates Sexson as a better player than Beltre. Idiots.
Sexson is a dreadful player in Power Pros.
High rankings, but awful nonetheless.
...and now I'm here
Midway through the first paragraph...
I did a double take and thought, “Wait, Cairo’s still around?”
Shit.

If we are playing at home..
It’d work
Exactly where in the rule book it says that the home team cannot decide which rules will be used?
Nothing wrong with two LFers!
If I recall correctly, the home team gets to decide which rules are in use!
By 16 hours and 8 minutes.
Just barely.

Well according to the PI...
Clement is getting a call up pretty soon. Sucks for Burke.

Wait I should have read the rest of the article first
I guess they’re gonna ditch Vidro and DH Clement? That makes more sense then letting him rot as a back up. Then again when has this team cared about making sense.
by A Public Alias on Apr 28, 2008 10:29 PM PDT up reply actions
I doubt Burke would be gone
Clement will be more of a DH than backup catcher if he comes up soon. My guess would that Cairo or Norton gets the boot.
FREE JEREMY REED!!
Norton is useless if Clement is on the club.
Cairo should leave…but won’t probably.

Over/under on how often the play him once he gets here?
I am naively optimistic they actually would because Raul isn’t in the way.
Depends how soon he comes up
the sooner it is, the more likely it is that McLaren’s still trying to let his veterans get things going, so Clement would play infrequently, at least for a little while.
by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 28, 2008 10:48 PM PDT up reply actions
Bavasi needs to take his toy away before they call up Clement
otherwise the servers will melt under our collective GTE.
Is it just me
or does the article simply state that a move for Clement seems likely? I don’t think this came information from anyone in the organization. Given what I heard from Bavasi on KJR it doesn’t sound like he’s convinced that Clement’s shown enough defensively as a catcher or offensively (wtf?) to be called up yet.
My guess?
On or after May 8th, when the service time issue doesn’t become a potential problem.

New Orleans pitching looked absolutely horrid today
On the flip side, it’s a miracle Robert Rohrbaugh only allowed 4 runs in 5.2 IP, as he gave up 10 (TEN) line drives in play. You’re not having too good of a day if you give up more than 3.
If this were Baseball Mogul
I’d have called all three up right now and either benched or sent away the men they were replacing.

I once made Griffey hit something like 864 HR in 875 AB, 45 BB, 0K, 0 2B, 0 3B
That was fun.

First off.. how in god's name did he have 920 plate appearances?
and 2nd off, why didn’t they just IBB him every time?
http://seattlesportsmaniac.blogspot.com
Well 920 PAs is entirely possible
given that if he hit 864 HRs there basically would be no DPs from the next two guys for a whole season, and that literally means that 1/9 of the lineup wouldn’t produce any outs, so total PA’s would rise by at least 11%

Interesting tidbit from Baker's blog:
If the M’s keep Clement in Tacoma until May 7 it delays his free agency a full season.
If that's true
keep him there til May 7th. If the FO insists on doing something to improve the offense until then, call up Reed/Wlad and then send them down after the 7th.
or then ditch Cairo?
and leave them up as well
Coach Owens has no bones

Realistic FO moves here.
Ideally Reed/Wlad would stay, but we all know they wont.
The Thick Plottens
Manager John McLaren said during his pre-game session with reporters and he said Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien will likely be up here “sooner than later.’‘I walked over to Bavasi after that and asked him flat-out whether service time or “Super Two’’ status would have any impact on a decision to call a player up from Class AAA. Bavasi responded that, if a club had to need to feel, the answer is “it has no impact on a decision.’‘
