Hey SBN, what the balls?
There has already been an issue with the "Question?" post losing a bunch of its comments today, and now when I click on it, I can't get in to it at all - it says "The page you were looking for doesn't exist. You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved."
This only happened when the post got over 10 recs, by the way, and the post changed color on the main screen.

If you click on F'n'A's's profile, it no longer shows him as having either that post or "Ben Franklin"
It’s possible that he deleted them.
When I click his profile
I can still see today’s post

Really weird
Here’s what my screen looks like right now
and then if I click I get a 404
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
it's some kind of weird coding error it looks like as the diary moved up to the header
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
That's the same thing I see
and I only got the 404 once it was grey-highlit; I am making a guess that once it gets >10 recs it gets greyed, but I’m not sure why that should change the viewability of the post.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
This disturbs and depresses me.
But, then again, most things do.
Damn you, beat me to that by like 20 seconds :(

I've left the same window open from the start
I can’t bring myself to refresh or close it because I can’t wait to see what happens next
OK
you wanna know the weirdest part?
Ningwers and I are still in the thread… and we can still post in it, and when the homepage refreshes, you can see how many new comments there are. WTF?
I still see the new comments count
but get the 404 when I click on it.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Same here.

yeah the thread still exists
it’s just slipped into another dimension.
This whole thing is insanely glitchy
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
So what's the popular theory right now?
God-like entity? Member of the show Sliders? Jeff got into some ‘shrooms?
I'm going with "God-like entity"
since he can change the rules of baseball at will as well.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I love that the two remaining commenters were UCLA alums
I have no idea what it means, but it made me laugh
I was going to comment something about
“See? The Bruins saved your precious thread” after Jeff said that UCLA sucked the other day :)
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 4:03 PM PDT up reply actions
Crackpot theory
Maybe f’n’a’s deleted both posts; the old one deleted OK, but since the new one was recommended, it deleted but the post header info stayed in the “recommended” section. Something to include in future test scripts, SBN. You did use test scripts, right?
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
But that doesn't explain why half the comments got deleted
because you can’t selectively delete your own comments either way. And the thread loaded just fine after some of the comments disappeared.
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 3:53 PM PDT up reply actions
True enough
I was just looking for an answer for the 404…
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

Way to bring this back around
you’re learning. Now swear more.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Now it's gone entirely
somebody please save that whole thing as a website before closing!!!!
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Already got the part after the first comments were deleted
I think ningwers has the whole thing
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 3:58 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah, I saved what I got
It’s nearly complete except for those two sections of comments of mine that didn’t pop up in that original window, but they were mostly redundant anyway
Yeah, it's gone for me, along with F'n'A's other fanposts....
What’s going on?
I'm guessing he's deleting them
but again, that doesn’t explain the vanishing comments within them before the whole thing goes away.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
We have no idea
but stick together everyone. Don’t let the secret demon pick you off. Strength in numbers!!

I'm scared and I just wet my pants
because nobody told me there was a secret demon.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Well I have only anecdotal proof, but given that f'nA's
first argued that the home team could change the rules at will and then started selectively deleting comments… it’s not hard to put two and two together
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions
You're a foolish fool.
I’m going off by myself to search for clues. It’s better than stitting around in this God-forsaken thread, waiting to be picked off, one by one…

Where the hell is Jeff??
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions
He must be in on this
That’s the easiest possible explanation- I just can’t think of a reason
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
or F'n'A's stole Jeff and has him hostage
either way I think this fellow needs to be permanently banned- he’s making things spooky
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
Maybe F'n'A's is Jeff...

I'd already made this same assumption.

Q: how is babby formed?
A: F’n’A’s powerful mind.
Jeff has to be in on this

Also, I feel I should point out that we can no longer view clockwerks user profile
which I think we could when he first started posting here
we definitely could
because I used it to create the username clockwurks to test the Corco Phenomenon on Halos Heaven

Coincidentally enough
JDB’s actually my wife. She doesn’t have the power, though.

To reiterate
Its is total fucking bullshit that you can delete your diaries. SBN needs to fix this yesterday.

I think I figured out what happened
I just went to Field Gulls and deleted a couple fanposts I made, they didn’t disappear from the sidebar right away but when I clicked on them I was sent to the same “Does not exist” screen.
So it looks like F’n’As deleted them. Cowards way out….
Still doesn't explain the random comment quirks
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 4:08 PM PDT up reply actions
I think it does
Like you know how you can still post in a game thread after it’s closed if you never refresh your page? Same deal here, you can still post in a deleted thread as long as you don’t refresh.
And I think there’s something wrong with the way threads are deleted when people are actively using the thread. But, they were still deleted by him.
I mean though that about 80 comments were randomly deleted at first
and we could still reload the page at will and post – I’m sure he deleted it later. Same with the BF autobiography post, which for a while showed -149 comments
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 4:12 PM PDT up reply actions
Judging from my profile,
My comments from the first batch have disappeared completely, yet the more current ones still show up.
by Liebkartoffel on Apr 28, 2008 4:12 PM PDT up reply actions
that's what I've got too
I think he deleted it at some point, but I think the 90 or so other commetns disappeared
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
I missed it.
What was his post about and why did it have 245 comments?
...and now I'm here
f'nA's decided that the home team could unilaterally nullify rules that it didn't like
and then asked us to find the section in the rulebook that stated that the home team could not in fact change the rules at will.
by seattlebruin on Apr 28, 2008 4:14 PM PDT up reply actions
Something about volunrarily giving up our DH in order to force the other team to give up their's.
It was hilariously dumb.

I wished I remembered all of Graham’s nice summary comment comparing it to moon cheese
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
Thankfully, I still have the window open
You: Since the moon is made of cheese, shouldn’t we set up mining operations there to stop world hunger?
Others: The moon’s made of rocks.
You: But world hunger.
Others: But rocks
You: But if it were made of cheese it’d make a lot of sense to go mine it. We should go mine the moon for cheese.
Others: The moon isn’t made out of cheese.
You: Does this mean we can’t discuss this?

The short story is
that there was a system bug that occurred when F’nA’s tried to delete his “Question?” post (which resulted in a subset of the post’s comments being deleted) so I hid it from public view for him. That those of you who were already in the thread could continue to comment, and that the post remained visible on the Recommended FanPosts list, are also bugs. All will be fixed by tomorrow.
