The Worst GM Poll Continues: Bavasi vs. Sabean

Hey Lookout Landing-ites,

Thanks to those of you who participated in the last round of the Worst GM poll. Bill Bavasi won his round against Jon Daniels and is up again. This time he's facing top seed Brian Sabean.

Personally, I don't think Bavasi has a prayer of winning this one. The Pierzynski trade, the dumping of first-round picks, the Zito contract, Brian Bocock... it's got to be Sabean, right?

If I'd known we were ahead I would have voted for Sabean.

Bavasi’s been terrible, sure, but I don’t see how Sabean should ever be considered a better GM than anyone. Ever. Scrooge McDuck would be a better GM than Sabean.

About three weeks ago, I was talking to a close friend who is a huge Giants fan

and he goes “You know, I would take the winner of ANY fantasy baseball league over Sabean as GM.” And he was dead serious.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Brian Sabean, GM of the San Francisco Giants!

I want to win this fucker.

I don’t care if Sabean is worse, Bavasi keeps trying harder and harder to beat him. And I want to remind everyone of one thing: While Sabean may have picked up Zito, that’s not for lack of trying by Bavasi. Zito turned us down. Had we picked him up too, like Bavasi wanted, that would be yet another notch in Bavasi’s shitbelt.

...and now I'm here

Bavasi gets my vote

for trading Chili Davis to KC for a combined 8 innings of epic failure from Mark Bovee and Mark Gubiza. Not to mention completely failing to assemble a pitching staff outside of Chuck Finley and Troy Percival.

That year alone he should be fired

Hahaha

We’re up by like 30 votes… Bavasi is bad, but there’s no way he’s worse than Sabean

by thenatural on Apr 28, 2008 11:25 AM PDT reply actions

And Sabean did preside over a world series appearance...

...which it took a miraculous player A performance at the plate to steal from them.

Where’s our world series appearance? Where’s our playoff appearance for that matter?

Someone say something witty.

Define normal

Precedent would dictate that we absolutely have to win this poll and I’m merely acting on that

It's also possible seattle bubble would have beat us

but that hasn’t stopped LL from mass voting in every large poll tourney we have ever participated in

I would argue that Sabean has only managed to mire one franchise in a hopeless

quagmire of suckitude, while Bavasi has done it twice. Plus, Sabean drafts better than Bavasi does, and has actually built teams that went places. Bavasi has never been GM of a team that made the playoffs.

The Giants haven't drafted a

position player who has become a starter (for anyone) in about 15 years.

The A's colors are green and gold.

by mikeA on Apr 28, 2008 12:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Okay.

I have to admit, his 90s record on drafts is way worse than I thought. But still, he’s managed to get some pretty good pitching- Lincecum, Cain, Lowery, Linden, Bonser in the 2000s. Plus, he made surprisingly good use of bad picks in trades for good players like Schmidt or Kent.

Bavasi’s major draft successes are Jarrod Washburn, Troy Glaus, Darin Erstad, and John Lackey, plus Scot Shields on pure luck (38th round). Morrow and Clement haven’t really done much of anything for Seattle yet.

Yeah, I agree with Zu Long.

Only because I hate Bavasi with a passion that would give the devil a boner.

...and now I'm here

Fixing this poll is shamtastic

This isn’t really a popularity contest. And Sabean is WAY worse than Bavasi: if not for Bonds, the dumbfuck would have been fired 2-3 years ago. That team has next to no one in the lineup, and Lincecum being able to go from college to useful top-end starter in only 2 years is the only reason they’re not going to lose 125 games this year.

by Gomez on Apr 28, 2008 1:00 PM PDT up reply actions

The poll will be open for another day or two, so hopefully the poll-fixing issue will solve itself. Sabean is already pretty close to clawing his way back.

That said, if you genuinely want to vote for Bavasi, and you haven’t voted yet, then by all means go for it.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Apr 28, 2008 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Sabean is sooo bad

I couldn’t vote for Bavasi. Sure Bavasi probalby wanted Zito but Sabean actually did it. Plus Bavasi would cry himself to sleep if he had to field a team like the Giants have right now.

by Edgar for Pres on Apr 28, 2008 1:10 PM PDT reply actions

Why?

Isn’t that exactly the kind of team he wants?

...and now I'm here

by CapSea on Apr 28, 2008 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

As much as I hate Bavasi

It would be a crime if Sabean didn’t win this one.
