Go Rays!

Oh, wait, I just read that was a no no.

I stand by my decision to no longer be that invested.

But these games aren’t very high on entertainment value either. They go pretty slow and generally fall apart at the end.

I was thinking that, actually

And I’m not sure. You may be right. I’m not invested in the A’s either. But at the same time, this isn’t the most exciting comeback. It’s just… you know… good.

Not that it would have helped.

Offense should’ve scored more runs. Not to mention the bullpen hasn’t exactly been lights out.

Felix wasn't all that good today.

10 baserunners in seven innings, the hits were line drives, couldn’t find the strike zone when he needed to.

Yeah, the offense was bad as usual, but it’s not like they wasted an amazing start.

Save for the 8th inning

That was a better-than-average Felix start. Hard to call 7.0 innings, 4 hits, 10 strikeouts of shutout ball “Not good”.

by ThundaPC on Apr 27, 2008 5:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The 8th inning is part of the start, though

McLaren shares the blame for leaving him in too long, but you have to judge the entire start, not just part of it. Overall, it’s a decent start, not a great one.

by Rollo Tomasi on Apr 27, 2008 6:47 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

You were talking about the seven innings though.

He was quite good those seven innings. And those “line drive” hits featured.

- Single to right.
- Single to center.
- Single to center.
- Infield single to catcher.

Three of those hits came in one innings.

Yes, you have to judge the entire start but even then, calling it just decent doesn’t make much sense to me. It’s like using ERA to judge overall performance. It doesn’t tell the whole story.

This was probably his best start of the season until the 8th (An inning which even Felix ends up giving credit to A’s for making adjustments). Quite a shame too.

by ThundaPC on Apr 27, 2008 7:20 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Another reason McLaren is a bad manager

For I swear like the 10th time this season, he sends his starter out with a high pitch count and does not start warming someone up after they’ve put the leadoff runner on base.

It makes no sense, Felix was at around 100 pitches after he walked the lead-off man in the 8th; there is no reason to not start at least warming someone up then. Then if Felix gives up another baserunner you’ll have someone ready to replace him before too much damage has been done, and if he doesn’t you’ve still got your guy warmed up to come in in the next inning. But no, instead he waits until Felix has put the second guy on with nobody out (and with Felix visibly fatigued) before he even starts warming up Morrow, meaning Felix has to face TWO MORE BATTERS with a 105+ pitch count and men on second and third with no outs while our pitcher gets ready. So he walks Barton to load the bases and his pitch count is over 110, yet what do you know, Morrow isn’t ready yet, Felix has to stay in long after he clearly needs to come out.

This has happened so many times this year, it’s really starting to piss me off, McLaren does not plan ahead at all for these possibilities, he just sits there and waits for a disaster to get dumped on him then reacts way too late.

Wait 'til 2009!

The M’s should go nuts and sign Dunn and Teixeira for one last valiant push for playoffs. Did anybody see Nintendo’s last quarterly report? It’s not like NoA is hurting for cash. Then, burdened with massive contracts for the next three to five years, we can watch Ichiro wilt away at the end of his Hall of Fame career and lament Dunn’s transformation into Richie Sexson 2.0.

This should set the team back five to ten years and let Felix walk through Free Agency.

Fun times to be had by all!
