May 3rd, M's at Yankees

I know there's been a few diaries/fanposts on here about some of us living in NY, so I thought I'd throw this out there. Next Saturday I'll be taking a bus trip down from central NY to see the Mariners play the Yankees. Is there anybody down in NYC interested in going and perhaps meeting up?

I realize I should have brought this up sooner, but hey it's worth a shot. If there's anyone interested in that bus trip I can get you the website too, 90 bucks for transportation, ticket, snacks and all that.

I am completly up for the trip

I’m at college in New Paltz, NY right around Poughkeepsie, getting to the city is a not a problem for me

If you can find decently priced tickets I’d love to go, I know we’ve wanted to do a LL night on the east coast since my awkward noticing of your conversation at Tully’s lol

I missed the 90 bucks total thing

I have my own way of transportation from school, how much for just tickets?

by mariners124m on Apr 27, 2008 1:22 PM PDT up reply actions

I dont think they offer just tickets

If you’re down for it though, I wouldn’t mind upgrading my ticket cause its nothing special, so maybe if we could find a couple on ebay or something? Sounds like something to look into

It seems some of you have tickets

so if it’s not possible to all sit together, we’ll have to at least arrange a meetup

For what it's worth

We Yankees are holding Pinstripe Alley Day at the Stadium on May 4th. If you’re in town, stop by the top of Lot 3 for a beer.

Question about Yankee games -

I just found out that I will bei n NYC on 3/4 June. I’d like to catch a Yankee game since it’s my last chance to see a game in Yankee stadium. However, I’ve never been to NYC at all and haven’t the first clue about going to games there. Is it better to park somewhere outside the city and take a cab/public transit to the game? Are there cheap places to stay close to the stadium?

by coolguyrob on Apr 28, 2008 11:17 PM PDT reply actions

Absolutely do not drive in NYC

There’s a subway stop right at the stadium (161/River, Yankee Stadium stop, B and D lines). And, as far as staying, define “cheap”. I’d recommend not staying in the south Bronx, but that puts you back into Manhattan/Brooklyn, and there’s really nothing “cheap” about staying in NYC. What’s your budget? Hostel or hotel? Sharing or solo? These things make a difference…

It's me and 5 buddies

Hostels are doable, we all hosteled throughout Europe together. We’d like to spend not more that 75-100 bucks a night. What about staying across the river?

by coolguyrob on Apr 29, 2008 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Are you talking 75-100 each or collectively?

You can actually stay in a hostel in Manhattan for something less than that $75 figure per person – the only one I know of is the Gershwin, and it’s $40-45 per person per night (make sure you book the hostel and not the hotel, though). I haven’t stayed there in a few years, but it was nice when I stayed there, and it’s a perfect location (27th/5th, pretty close to the Empire State Building, there’s subways within a couple blocks, and there’s lots of good bars pretty close by.

If you’re talking $100 per night for the whole group, though, that could be tough.

Thanks for the tips

I’ll check that place out. Since I’m the only one that’s employed (they’re students) our budget is prob 75-100 bones for me and like $5 each for them.

by coolguyrob on Apr 29, 2008 9:44 PM PDT up reply actions

There's probably about eleventybajillion hostels in NYC

but I’ve stayed at the Gershwin a few times and I really like it.

The other thing to remember, since money is probably an issue – DO NOT DRINK IN ANY BAR IN OR AROUND TIMES SQUARE. EVER. Beers are expensive enough in Manhattan (expect to pay $6 or so for a pint of decent beer in a bar, $5 or so for a Bud), but in Times Square they really soak the tourists (like, double digit drink prices). If there’s drinking in your plans, stay in the East Village or the Village and you’ll do much better.

Just found out...

That we’re staying at a friend of a friend’s place in NYC. Not sure exactly where at, but at least it’s free!

by coolguyrob on Apr 30, 2008 7:57 PM PDT up reply actions

In

I’d love to get tickets with the group. I live in Jersey so getting there would be no problem. I’ve been to two Yankees games so far this year and Moose has pitched both and has unfortunately won both. Hopefully we can beat the streak.

by lamymclamelame on Apr 29, 2008 7:14 PM PDT reply actions

I'll be at all three.

No meet up, though, as the boss lent me his suite to entertain some clients. I will be taking them for drinks and driving them back to their hotel after, ugh.

I’m in IT, not sales, dammit. (OK, so I sell computers and cameras on the side, that doesn’t mean I like people enough to suppress my Yankees hatred for the game.)

Look out for WAZZU

The New York WSU alumni group will be at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, so look to the upper reaches for a patch of Crimson when your’e there. Go FELIX! GO M’s!! GO COUGS!

Jack Perconte chokes me up.

I'm 80% sure that I'm going to make it to the game on Saturday

I was originally supposed to be in North Carolina already, but my work here in DC has gone so slowly that I’ve pushed back the trip to next week. Thank god for crashing programs!

I guess not

I havent really been in contact with anybody, if anyone wants to meet up you can email me at TheRastaMan03@Yahoo.com, otherwise keep your eyes open?

My girlfriend and I

are going to have dinner at Yakatori right after the game. If anyone wants to meet up with us and celebebrate/cry (both require drinking of course) let me know!

Hey Maz!

I’m going to the game with a couple of friends of mine. If they’re down with it, I’d love to join you guys.

Awesome

e-mail me your phone number and I’ll make sure we meet up outside the stadium afterwards.

Sorry, this time I have no extra tickets (although I almost did again! lol)
