2008 - Ervin Santana 2-0 3 3 0 0 0 0 19.0 17 7 7 1 6 14 3.32 1.21

In a league where the majority of pitchers are throwing with slightly lower velocities than they were a year ago (including Washburn, who's down 1.3mph from 2007 and 2.4mph from 2006), Ervin Santana's gained 1.5mph in getting back to where he was as a promising pitcher in '05/'06. The result has been an uptick in swinging strikes, and while it's far too early to declare that someone coming off as bad a season as Santana is back on track, this has to be considered an encouraging development for the Angels, who'll need their other starters to pick up the slack once they realize that Jon Garland is worthless.

As for Washburn, his average fastball velocity is about the same as that of our resident knuckleballer. I...somehow this is only year three of his contract. I can hardly remember what life before Washburn even felt like. I've been told it was worse, but I find this hard to believe.

LET'S GO MARINERS!!

only 2 walks all season for Washburn?

I guess Baltimore, TB and KC aren’t the most patient teams the league, but still nice to see.

Bradtastic!!

He's faced an uncharacteristic amount of lefties

that’ll go down, along with his strikeouts.

It's getting to the point

where I almost feel like I should apologize for putting this blog in the gutter for my part in the CL thread.

Except for GA

but yeah, I’m glad I’ll be missing this one.

by Jeff on Apr 19, 2008 5:43 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

GA not in the lineup

the ANA lineup above is wrong.

It’s Figgins – GMJ – Vlad – Hunter – RIvera- – Quinlan – Mathis – Rodriguez – Aybar

Yea, If it helps you feel better.

I feel the drop is due to natural regression of Washburn that comes with age. Also, I wonder how much drug testing is affecting the pitchers.

by Susheel Ramasahayam on Apr 19, 2008 3:41 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I mean the overall drop

I don’t think drug testing has much of an effect right now… unless like over 50% of pitchers were on steroid and suddenly stopped.

Possible

but I’m not sure either way.

Life before Washburn,

See Gil Meche and Joel Pinerio.

by ThundaPC on Apr 19, 2008 3:53 PM PDT   0 recs

I miss Gil Meche.

Yes, I did want to extend him in August 2006. And sign him in the offseason. I admit it. >:(

Uhh-oh

I might actually watch this game, because I want to stay up and watch Joe motherfucking Calazaghe bum Bernard Hopkins later on. BUT I have a very bad feeling about this game being a total suckfest. I want us to win I want to have happy game thread emotion! :(

And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

by EnglishMariner on Apr 19, 2008 4:27 PM PDT   0 recs

We need it after last night

I reaaaaaaaaally just don’t want to get swept, if we lose the series no big whoop.

by OlSalty on Apr 19, 2008 4:29 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

It has not been a good 24 hours for sports...

That Spurs game pissed me the fuck off. I fucking hate the Spurs SOOOOOO much.

by SethGrandpa on Apr 19, 2008 4:34 PM PDT   0 recs

and fuck Manu

the most annoying basketball player out there

I fucking hate you Mariners

BASKETball ftw

Well in the pros at least...

Greg Paulis is one of the rare individuals who has a face that immediately makes you think, “God I want to punch you in the face for no reason SOOOOO much.”

by SethGrandpa on Apr 19, 2008 5:14 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

This makes me happy...

By the way…this sums up why Duke hasn’t been good in years….

by SethGrandpa on Apr 19, 2008 5:22 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm English

So I think Manu is just a little bitch because of his country of origin. :)

But my god, diving in basketball…is ridiculous.

Matthews Jr in CF tonight

talk about the ultimate slap in the face to the M’s.

Bradtastic!!

Blue Jays

bench Frank Thomas in favor of Matt Stairs.

I wish we had a DH as good as Frank Thomas to stick on the bench in favor of an inferior hitter…

JJ Throws Simulated game

all came out well

and Bedard threw 31 pitches, no problems will be re-evaluated tomorrow and probably throw another bullpen in a couple days… likely to miss one more start.

Interesting lineup

Damn. I know this isn’t new information or anything, but this bench is not deep. We barely get into our reserves and it’s Willie Bloomquist, Jeff Clement, and Greg Norton. Anybody else dreaming about the arrival of any/all of the Balentien/Clement/Reed/Lahair AAA guys?

I could go for that.

Provided Griffey never, ever, ever plays defense.

Not really

There is some talent there, but not enough to truly make a difference this year.

And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

dynamic, electric, exciting

all of these are big words according to Rex Hudler

by thenatural on Apr 19, 2008 6:02 PM PDT   0 recs

Sucks

you have to watch the game from the Angels’ POV.

I hope Bedard’s hip pain was transferred to me, I can take it

Hits for a little more power, but....

It should be Richie at DH Norton at 1B, or Raul and DT Norton at LF.

by OlSalty on Apr 19, 2008 6:12 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Why does that sound totally awesome?

I have low expectations?

Raul at* DH*

Of course that’s never gonna happen with this management, so I guess this isn’t the worst lineup move ever.

by OlSalty on Apr 19, 2008 6:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Clement's also better than Vidro, so is Wad

We had better destroy them today.

Felix Hernandez may be The King, but Justin Upton is a GOD.

Oh boy Jarrod Washburn.

Can we call up Doug Fister or something? Someone? Anyone?
