In a league where the majority of pitchers are throwing with slightly lower velocities than they were a year ago (including Washburn, who's down 1.3mph from 2007 and 2.4mph from 2006), Ervin Santana's gained 1.5mph in getting back to where he was as a promising pitcher in '05/'06. The result has been an uptick in swinging strikes, and while it's far too early to declare that someone coming off as bad a season as Santana is back on track, this has to be considered an encouraging development for the Angels, who'll need their other starters to pick up the slack once they realize that Jon Garland is worthless.
As for Washburn, his average fastball velocity is about the same as that of our resident knuckleballer. I...somehow this is only year three of his contract. I can hardly remember what life before Washburn even felt like. I've been told it was worse, but I find this hard to believe.

I feel the drop is due to natural regression of Washburn that comes with age. Also, I wonder how much drug testing is affecting the pitchers.

I don’t think drug testing has much of an effect right now… unless like over 50% of pitchers were on steroid and suddenly stopped.

I was just kidding. Last year when I was leaving the game against the red sox at the 11th inning last june, this guy with his shirt off holding up a broom was shouting at me and my friends “Hey, I thought you guys were real fans” We ended up staying the rest of the game, watching from the walkways, but ended up getting in shitty traffic anyway, because it was rush hour on a wednesay, so it was mariners traffic + normal rush hour traffic = total shittiness on the road.
Leaving a game early is blasphemy.

Willie with starting time is beyond his duties. He is supposed to be the scrappy hometown white guy who is suppose to sit on the bench, look good in the merchandise, and only fill in very temporarily if someone goes down with an injury during the game

Ichiro's contact rate is up 4% over last year
and at 93%, is the highest of his career.

It seems like a lot of that contact has been really week ground balls
And I think EVERY one of his strike 3 swingings have been worse than any of Beltre’s so far.

With the Sonics leaving town and me living in Utah for the last 4 years,
I have become a Jazz fan.
But not of the Stockton/Malone lineage. Boozer, Williams, and Kirilinko are a good core of players.

Man, with all of those first round draft picks and further development of KD and Jeff Green? If the Sonics were to stay in Seattle the Western Conference Championship could be fought between the two teams in the North West for years to come.

The M’s should try and stretch out Brandon Morrow. Mark Lowe looks relatively healthy, so Morrow/Green/Lowe kind of seems like a waste of resources. R.A. Dickey can pitch for either Wash or Batista until Morrow is ready to be tested out.
