W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2008 - Jarrod Washburn 1-2 3 3 0 0 0 0 18.0 18 7 7 3 2 12 3.50 1.11

W-L G GS CG SHO SV BS IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP
2008 - Ervin Santana 2-0 3 3 0 0 0 0 19.0 17 7 7 1 6 14 3.32 1.21

In a league where the majority of pitchers are throwing with slightly lower velocities than they were a year ago (including Washburn, who's down 1.3mph from 2007 and 2.4mph from 2006), Ervin Santana's gained 1.5mph in getting back to where he was as a promising pitcher in '05/'06. The result has been an uptick in swinging strikes, and while it's far too early to declare that someone coming off as bad a season as Santana is back on track, this has to be considered an encouraging development for the Angels, who'll need their other starters to pick up the slack once they realize that Jon Garland is worthless.

As for Washburn, his average fastball velocity is about the same as that of our resident knuckleballer. I...somehow this is only year three of his contract. I can hardly remember what life before Washburn even felt like. I've been told it was worse, but I find this hard to believe.

LET'S GO MARINERS!!

only 2 walks all season for Washburn?

I guess Baltimore, TB and KC aren’t the most patient teams the league, but still nice to see.

Bradtastic!!

but yeah, I’m glad I’ll be missing this one.

GA not in the lineup

the ANA lineup above is wrong.

It’s Figgins – GMJ – Vlad – Hunter – RIvera- – Quinlan – Mathis – Rodriguez – Aybar

Yea, If it helps you feel better.

I feel the drop is due to natural regression of Washburn that comes with age. Also, I wonder how much drug testing is affecting the pitchers.

by Susheel Ramasahayam on Apr 19, 2008 3:41 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I mean the overall drop

I don’t think drug testing has much of an effect right now… unless like over 50% of pitchers were on steroid and suddenly stopped.

Damn. I know this isn’t new information or anything, but this bench is not deep. We barely get into our reserves and it’s Willie Bloomquist, Jeff Clement, and Greg Norton. Anybody else dreaming about the arrival of any/all of the Balentien/Clement/Reed/Lahair AAA guys?

April, May, wuteva

He tends to struggle at the start of the season. I can’t say I like seeing him strike out so much but it’s not a cause for concern yet.

I am not sure, I don't have evidence

But I was repeating what Mac said about Sexson before the game. Lol.

Ichiro in April:

Career: .296/.351/.395
2004’s incredible year April: .255/.309/.304

He’s fine.

Ichiro's contact rate is up 4% over last year

and at 93%, is the highest of his career.

He’s fine.

It seems like a lot of that contact has been really week ground balls

And I think EVERY one of his strike 3 swingings have been worse than any of Beltre’s so far.

I fucking hate you Mariners

strike outs on swinging strikes is down too

They do look worse, that’s what sticks out.

Is his approach different this year with 2 strike counts?

Doesn’t seem like he’s trying to make contact and spray line-drives all over the place..he looks like he’s way out in front of everything. Maybe he’s pressing when it gets to two strikes?

I fucking hate you Mariners

Yeah, Game 6 vs. the Yankees in 2002

was a GREAT Game for Wash. Way to remember how many games are in the ALDS Phys.

Seriously people, this comes up EVERY FUCKING YEAR

“OH NOES, ICHIRO’S FINALLY IN DECLINE! HE’S GONNA SUCKONE!”

And every year he proves you people wrong.

Give it up already.

Felix Hernandez may be The King, but Justin Upton is a GOD.

Not push them to RCF

Afterwords I hope Tori Hunter is then hung for being a birthday-wrecking pedophile.

Don't know if its been mentioned

But that “punchless” Oakland lineup managed to knock Greinke out after 5 innings.
