RIP John Marzano
Oh man, what a sad event.
I guess he was found at the bottom of the stairs in his home. It's unclear as to whether it was the fall or something else. One of the great moments in M's history when the scrappy catcher stood up for the diminutive Tim Davis as the assbag Paul O'Neil threatened to charge the mound and beat of a guy 1/3 of his size only to have a haymaker from Marzy land upside his dome.

Marzano punching O'Neill is one of my favorite baseball moments.
Rest in peace, dude.
Yesterday's Pants
A blog-thingy about the Mariners and stuff.
It was one of mine for about 3 hours
until I got home and saw that he whiffed on that punch. I still loved him for it though, and he was a nice backup catcher.

Sasaki didn't die when he fell down stairs
I fucking hate you Mariners
Marzano was awesome
He definitely belongs in that tier of Mariners who didn’t necessarily put up great numbers, but who were still legit regardless.

Before my time as a fan...
Can someone tell me his story, especially this punching incident?
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...
No problem...
The M’s had a tiny lefty named Tim Davis. He was a little dude. Looked like the wind could blow him off of the mound. One day he was pitching vs. the Yankees and Paul O’Neill, who, if you ever ask him, never let a pitch go by that was actually in the strike zone. Pauly didn’t like the fact the Davis threw a couple of inside pitches to him and started barking out at the mound. Marzano, who was the Sunday catcher at the time, decided that he didn’t like O’Neill’s tone and that he was picking on a guy that was tiny compared to him and took matters into his own hands and threw a legendary haymaker to the head of O’Neill which led to a bench clearing melee. What made it great was that O’Neill was significantly taller than Marzano by Marzy didn’t back down one bit. Instantly made him a fan favorite.
It was a great moment.
I've been trying to find it
and I can’t find it anywhere.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Ha, that's awesome.
I would like to see a game thread for that game!
I also want to see this punch.
And I’d love it if Burke punched Torri Hunter in the fucking FACE this sunday.
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

I mean...
Hunter ripped our hearts out last night for sure, but comparing Paul O’Neill to Torii Hunter is a little too far I think.
Yeah, O'Neill's a hell of a lot uglier

Any chance I get to mock Paul O'Neill
and his ugly, stupid face, I will.

Paul O'Neill is a very special man to me.
No Major Leaguer has flipped me off or yelled at me more than him. I must have dumped a metric ton of angst on that Asshat over the years.
I lost my voice yelling at him after the Marzano incident.
RIP John.

He will be missed
Marzano was one the most well liked back-up catchers we had. He made us forget about Chad Krueter and Chris Widger in a hurry. He was eventually replaced with Tom Lampkin (whom people also liked).
My mom says I'm cool
Class act
My son spent time with him and arod and my son like Marzano but thought arod was a jerk. He was seven. Good judge of character. RIP John, you are missed.
I killed a 12 pack just to watch it die...
very sad -- only 45
If I remember correctly, Marzano was one of the few guys in recent times who held the bat barehanded. From his time on air, seemed like a good guy.
He wasn't even born yet.
