Worst Part:

Is that, and I mentioned it a few times along, this just felt like a game we were going to win. I had some sort of weird confidence throughout.

by TheOptimist on Apr 18, 2008 10:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't realize asking a question was taking things seriously

it was a question. One question, with no ‘tone’ or attitude to it. What’s with this overtly defensive stance? One, 5 word question. Not loaded. A point of curiosity. No one took anything seriously.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Apr 18, 2008 10:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

not answering a legitimately curious question, and instead slandering the questioner is essentially the definition of defensive.

At least I know how outsiders are treated around here…if they dare show any curiosity at all, just bomb the hell out of them. Bang up job, hospitality crew.

I've blogged more than enough

to know when I’m “defeated.” All I wanted to know, without any snide connotation, or ill-will, what he legitimately meant. That’s it. I don’t generally take shit seriously, but I just wanted an answer from the party I addressed. Nothing more, nothing less.

My version of not taking shit seriously is just not talking to someone to begin with if I had no reason to reply to them. Obviously, your approach is more…abrasive. Cheers, sailor.

Actually, I'll elaborate:

We’re not actually mean to people unless they spell poorly, which you’re not doing. You’re fine.

What we do is never actually answer any question seriously ever. That’s what we mean by don’t take things seriously. We don’t answer anyone’s question, regardless of intent. We made random statements that are unrelated to the query.

You're coming here after a tough loss as a fan of

the opposing team. Your joining just now is suspicious enough as it is. And you come and ask a smartass question of a comment clearly not terribly serious. What reaction were you expecting?

Smartass?

Really? I didn’t know you were an expert on intention. Read my question again, why not? Five words. Five…to address a curious comment on a blog that, regardless of my join date, I have read almost daily. No, the 110 loss comment obviously wasn’t serious. But given the beliefs of baseball fans in general (believe me, I’ve been a an long enough to insist that certain teams I hate just are ‘lucky’), I can see how the ‘lucky’ part might be true. Some people, despite your apparently jaded existence, are capable of asking questions without trying to be a dick. Which is what you should perhaps consider as a possibility rather than assuming the worst of someone based on a whole five words.

by Liebkartoffel on Apr 18, 2008 10:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can be a smartass in 5 words just as good as 5 paragraphs

I’m sure you can too. And by that question you are clearly trying to start an argument over whether the Angels have been lucky so far this season or not with fans of the opposing team, where else did you expect this line of questioning to go?

Judging by the Angels offensive output so far, and everything that same offense has done in the past, you can make a pretty good case for saying they’ve been pretty lucky thus far. Is that what you wanted to hear?

by OlSalty on Apr 18, 2008 10:40 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

funny that you know my intentions better than another.

As I said already, I frequently grasp at straws to try to justify a hated team’s success as being a mere product of luck. I do it a lot…in fact, I do it constantly.

That being the case, I had a legitimate curiosity as to how that plays out for whoever the hell made the initial comment. Nothing more, nothing less.

And factoring in the addition of Torii Hunter, the maturation of Kendrick, Kotchman, and Napoli, and considering that they currently average 5.1 runs per game, which is less than last year, I’m not sure I buy that analysis, no.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Apr 18, 2008 10:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

For the last time

Why must you take this seriously?

The M’s got embarrassed tonight, they lost in heart wrenching fashion, everybody here is on suicide watch, we’re still angry and need to lash out at something. Stop taking everything we say as if we actually mean it.

Barry Bonds died for your sins.

by JI on Apr 18, 2008 10:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I stopped taking the rest of you seriously

but ‘OlSalty’ has proven himself an exception in that he clearly does think that I was trying to be a dick. Regardless of ‘GTE,’ I feel it fair that I give a rational context to my remarks so that he understands what I meant to not be a dick comment.

If I actually had meant to be a dick, I would have given it up already. The rest of you, I’ve gotten over…he, on the other hand, is as serious as I am, and any contrary insistences are just a lie.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Apr 18, 2008 11:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was just trying to explain why people jumped on you

When we normally don’t. It is a pretty suspect question to be asking right after a loss, you have to understand that. If that wasn’t your intention, fine, no big whoop.

by OlSalty on Apr 18, 2008 11:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll be fair actually

99.9% of my internet life is spent being a dick, and that’s my fault. But given that no one here probably knew that in advance of my comment, and given that I was, for once in my life, actually serious, it was more than a little frustrating that I couldn’t get across that I wasn’t trying to be an asshole.

But you did do something

“How have the Angels been lucky” is a loaded question when it’s posed to your competitors blog. The only “omg serious” response is “Mariners blogger A lists 10 plays that the Angels were lucky on” then “CKoD lists 10 plays the Mariners were lucky on” then it devolves into bickering.

It’s not a productive question, really it’s just trolling.

There are so many better places to read

HH may be the most active Angels blog, but it’s also easily the worst.

by Jeff on Apr 18, 2008 11:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

I’m banned from HH for calling Jon Garland’s mother a whore, and I’m reminded of that every time I visit in the comment box….

So if he doesn’t see that I don’t think he’s banned

I haven't been around that long.

It may be a computer issue. If so, I apologize to the Rev for impugning his honor.

So after being informed that it was more likely

a computer problem, I spent 20 minutes fiddling with my internet settings and found out I was wrong again. So officially, my apologies to The Rev (and indirectly, to Casey’sKOD) for suggesting he banned me for no reason. My only defense is that before today I didn’t really care one way or the other. I am now reduced to once again not posting at HH by inclination rather than necessity.

Eh

Every team gets their share of luck, the Angels got lucky when that ball stayed in the park, but the Mariners got lucky with those multiple line drives right at Beltre/Yuni/Sexson

by OlSalty on Apr 18, 2008 10:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll handle this

1) GTE. I trust you have become familiar with the term

2) The perception (note: perception) is that the Angels tend to get an awful lot of breaks and weak hits when they play us. Being that the only time we really watch the Angels is when they play the Mariners, we don’t see all the times the luck evens out, so they just come off as being a lucky team

Game Thread Emotion

It means when we are playing you gusy we get emotional… just like you do… come on

by thenatural on Apr 18, 2008 10:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

A link was posted above

but long story short, GTE = Game Thread Emotion. During and immediately following games, people here tend to make really irrational comments and arguments for which, under LL law, they cannot be held responsible.

Ordinarily GTE only extends to 10 minutes following the final out, but considering the nature of the final out today, I’m granting an extension.

by Jeff on Apr 18, 2008 10:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

10 minutes?

Lord. My family has extended me a form of GTE that persists to this day for Doug Eddings in the ‘05 ALDS. I think I’ve been given a lifetime pass on that.

Honestly

that was just funny, because it shouldn’t have been physically possible. The second best moment of that series was Tim Salmon hitting the gamewinning 2-run shot in Game 2. Because say what you want about Eckstein or “Player A,” Tim had EARNED that shit.

What makes AK’s even better though, is realizing that the pitcher he did that to was a young Johan Santana.

IMO. Without him, you guys don’t win. Given that Jeff Weaver and Suppan managed to hold down the mets, I can only assume that you could have put a rusty pitching machine on the mound and given up the same number of runs. But you don’t score more without Molina.

I go to Rutgers. When I go back to the west coast (where I live), a lot of prospective employers ask me if it’s an Ivy league school because of its semi-snooty name, and the fact that everyone has heard of it.
