Temporary - SD at 5 hours, 18 innings
And still going. Do they call these games? Because someone's arm is going to break. To put that Japanese game into perspective, however, the entire San Diego team coming into this inning is only at 249 pitches.
Because I'm fairly positive I'm not at 75 words, my addition to this temporary thread is: Start visiting pdb's site at www.niceguysfinishthird.com so that he writes there more often. The more baseball blogs not written by a doc, the better, amigo.

I'll try and get a screencap if I see it again, but it's exactly what it sounds like.
I think the announcers said it was left over from Linebrink’s locker.
Holy Shit.
I just imagined Sims announcing a game for 18 innings and a shiver went down my spine.
...and now I'm here
There's the ram's head in all its glory

Watching it again, I think its head was getting separated from its neck, so they were trying to secure it.
I don’t know, maybe they are just crazy.
fut the whuck?
Send this to gas lamp. Maybe they know.
...and now I'm here
Well, I posted it as a fanpost, and it's made it to the front page of GLB
hopefully, we’ll get some answers :)
Apparently it was Linebrink's rams head.
http://www.gaslampball.com/2008/4/18/415455/oddities-of-last-night-s-g
The guy who runs GLB has a picture of it from a clubhouse tour.
Apparently a GLBer emailed the Padres asking what was up with the ram's head.
Hi [Dalton],
Thanks for your email. Some of our pitchers mounted a ram’s head on the wall of the clubhouse a couple of years ago. It was taken down a while ago but was still in the clubhouse. A couple of the players got it out last night and put it on the bench, I’m assuming for good luck. As for the tape, I think they just taped it to the bench so that it would sit up instead of falling over.
Sincerely,
Jaclyn Simi

I wouldn't be watching the gameday line
but I have to write a bunch of really crappy articles about Maui and apparently I’m determined to stay up until 3 am for no reason.

Can you imagine if Squinty had to manage an 18 inning game?
Imagine how many stupid moves he could make. That’s two games worth of dumb moves!
This is hilarious
I think San Diego is out of pitchers
I think San Diego is out of pitchers they have any desire to use in this game

Can you imagine taking a girl to a game that ended up going 18 innings?
There’s no way I would ever leave an extra inning game, and once it got to about 15, there’s NO WAY you could even pry me away from my seat.
by seattlebruin on Apr 18, 2008 12:18 AM PDT up reply actions
Yes, but there would be plenty of empty seats
You know… to… um… pass the time.
...and now I'm here
Both teams have 5 pitchers in the pen.
Unless the went on to a 6 man rotation, I think they should both have one left, shouldn’t they?
Come on EDMONDS!
Let’s see a fonk blast!
...and now I'm here
And the 19th inning, here we go
...and now I'm here
Just got done watching the archived M's game
So glad I didn’t have to watch that live. But holy shit theres still baseball going on!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WILFREDO!!!!
...and now I'm here
Dude, I want Wilfredo on our team.
And he normally sucks. Screw SSS, 80 pitches for a crappy reliever with 0 runs? Awesome.
...and now I'm here
Poor Jake Peavy
8 IP 0 R 4H 11K and he can’t even get a damn win out of it
can we flip someone for him?
...and now I'm here
Naw - we had Sherrill and the Padres wanted him
but we flipped him for Lillibedard instead

Go cacuasian Mike Cameron. End the game!!!
...and now I'm here
bullshit
how the fuck does Tucson get blacked out for a San Diego game arggh
It’s 400 fucking miles away
actually i jumped the gun
was trying to install JAP but now it’s being all retarded on me. stuck with audio :(
Holy shit these teams suck
Or are good. Who cares. I cannot believe this isn’t over.
One more out in the 19th. If they get out, who thinks they’ll call it?
...and now I'm here
Didn't a Detriot/ Yankees game
Go longer then that last year? I think it was rain delayed and then went to extra innings?
yeah, I'm not really sure what the rule is then
that game didn’t start till like 12, so they maybe decided to let it go. The curfew might have to deal with travel days and what not.
Bradtastic!!
Wow... Just Wow...
Inning 20, here we go.
...and now I'm here
I don't think we're that far away from that
Perhaps like four more innings?
Anyone watching? Are there actually people still there?
I should drive down to Petco and try to sneak in

Awful, awful, awful name for a stadium.
...and now I'm here
Too far for that to be a really serious suggestion
right now, I could get there in ~ 20 minutes @ 105 mph

Reason #234510-058242340-685406 why I prefer NL rules.
I think they’re out of position players so the pitchers would have to play the field.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
If and only if one of them gets tired or injured.
...and now I'm here
Hahahahahaha
Greg Maddux or Raul Ibanez for LF?
by seattlebruin on Apr 18, 2008 12:33 AM PDT up reply actions
And I'm serious
baseball is so much better without the DH, makes the games much more interesting.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
Wilfredo would have been up next.
I would have loved to see Ledezma hit the game winning home run after this performance.
...and now I'm here
I remember that STL-FLA game
I woke up listened to 5 innings, went out for the day, cam home that evening and the game was still on. All I remember about that Cardinals team is that they had 4 legitimate MVPs on no one who could get any damned outs—like the mid 90s M’s w/o RJ.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
This is the case.
He was Peavy this game. Sans strikeouts.
...and now I'm here
Christ, we're into the TWENTIETH MOTHERFUCKING INNING NOW
It’s 2:30AM in Chicago. Nobody is going to cross home plate anytime soon. Even though GLENDON RUSCH is pitching.
Of course, just watch: the Rockies are gonna pour on a shitton of runs right here. You gotta believe.
Holy fuck if you can't score off of Rusch or Wells
You might as well fuckin hang yourself.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
this would be an awesome game to be at
if it were not on a weekday
The longest game I went to lasted +/- six hours.
Unfortunately not extra innings, but Gary Gaetti did pitch.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
I was at the M's epic 19 inning one
had to leave by the 14th, my dad had work…
also was at the doubleheader where the second game went extra innings. that was awesome. by the 10th of the second game there was like 3000 fans there and we chilled in the 3rd row behind home. awesomeness.
That's not possible.
Since the longest regular season game was 4 1/2 hours… unless there was a rain delay?
...and now I'm here
right, sorry, 9 inning, not regular season.
That’s what I meant.
...and now I'm here
Thank god we've got the SD crew for this game on mlb.tv
Can you imagine the Hawk in the 20th inning?
How you know LL and GLB have different fanbases.
GasLampBall: 1050 comments in 20 innings.
LL: 1676 comments, 9 innings, boring game. 86 comments about the Padres game with only about 10 people participating.
...and now I'm here
Glendon Rusch home run right here
For all the homers Bronson Arroyo hit off of him. Payback time baby.
I think it was the 18th inning
when there was a runner on 3rd with 2 outs and the pitcher (Speier) batted. I couldn’t work out why they weren’t PHing him until I checked and saw that both sides had already run out 21 players each (other four are their starting rotation).

It’s times like these I’m sorry I’m a fan of the Mariners and live in Seattle so I have no reason to get MLB.TV

It’s great to be at work and watch baseball at 8:45am :)

Oh. My. God.
Let’s do this Iguchi.
...and now I'm here
so here's a question:
which game, were it to have involved the Ms, would generate more comments:
A) Rangers-Jays game from yesterday
or B) this game
note the LI charts below
Peavy = Felix.
So B.
Also, our side tracked threads when we have no offense are long and brilliant.
...and now I'm here
It does in this sense:
A pitcher, on the Mariners, giving up 0 runs after 8 innings? This would get a lot of comments.
...and now I'm here
The more lead changes, the more comments
so I’d say A, because there’s only a few crazy fucks who sit through 6 hours of deadlock
NEEDS MORE BONDS
there’s only a few crazy fucks who sit through 6 hours of deadlock
A “few”? On… LL? Because that’s not the case at all.
...and now I'm here
A would certain ramp up the comments per inning
but that game only went 14. Would 7 extra innings of game B be enough?
And what would you put the o/u on comments at ? 6000?
I think the close game would generate a lot of one word all caps GTE comments.
Whether that would = more??? It depends on when the game starts too.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
When I hear the SD announcer says the phrase "we're going to the 21st inning, tied at one" my spirit soars
Is there something wrong with me?
I must be Jonesing worse than Corco
If I’m commenting on a non M’s/Cards game at 1.00 in the morning.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
I just love baseball. Any game, any time.
I’d hang on every pitch of a Royals/Pirates interleague matchup as long as it counted for the regular season. I just love the game that much.
I can only watch games I have no stake in
if they’re like this. Although I was pulling really fucking hard for the Rockies in the one game playoff, but now I have to root for Padres when Edmonds is in the game.

If you get 5 strikeouts, does that earn you a platinum sombrero?
Titanium sombrero? Garnet sombrero?
It just occurred to me:
neither team is ever going to score.
Ever again.
For the rest of the season.
I will stay up all fucking night if I have too.
I want at least 30 innings or an Edmonds walk off homerun, whichever comes first.
NEEDS MORE BONDS
I want it to go to the 27th
That way both teams can claim that they gave the fans 3 games for the price of one.
This game
it would only be right for this to conclude on the most freaky play possible.
Relief pitcher walk-off ITP HR, anyone? What would top that?
Accidental Mariner - P3 W1 L2 (.333)
Sponsor of Jamie Burke's baseball-reference page
nah, I've seen that happen
twice I think even
I saw the Nationals do that in 2005
Ah, it hurts so good to be a diehard Nats fan. We lost our own 14-inning monstrosity tonight.
Squeeze would be orgasmic
but it happens in reality too. We need something that only these circumstances could throw up.
Like a position player pitching and letting loose a wild pitch that the runner from 2nd base scores off.

it's too bad this game doesn't involve the Cardinals
eventually having to turn to Ankiel to pitch.

Albert Pujols pitching.

Even better:
A Rox position player pitching to the Padres’ last available reliever (Cla Meredith), and giving up a two-run homer to allow the Pads to win…by 1.
(Because the Rox would’ve scored one in the top of the inning)
A
Shouldn’t espn be allowed to break into this game like they do if a no hitter is about to happen?
But it will be nice when this game is in the 67th inning
and I want to watch the M’s tomorrow

Padres are getting sloppy and tired on defense - they need to bring the Gold Glover Maddux for support
I don't think Greg Maddux in the field would be all that bad
as long as he didn’t have to cut anything off or cover on a steal, I think he’d be fine.
