Temporary - SD at 5 hours, 18 innings

And still going. Do they call these games? Because someone's arm is going to break. To put that Japanese game into perspective, however, the entire San Diego team coming into this inning is only at 249 pitches.

Because I'm fairly positive I'm not at 75 words, my addition to this temporary thread is: Start visiting pdb's site at www.niceguysfinishthird.com so that he writes there more often. The more baseball blogs not written by a doc, the better, amigo.

I'll try and get a screencap if I see it again, but it's exactly what it sounds like.

I think the announcers said it was left over from Linebrink’s locker.

There's the ram's head in all its glory

Watching it again, I think its head was getting separated from its neck, so they were trying to secure it.

I don’t know, maybe they are just crazy.

Apparently a GLBer emailed the Padres asking what was up with the ram's head.

Hi [Dalton],

Thanks for your email. Some of our pitchers mounted a ram’s head on the wall of the clubhouse a couple of years ago. It was taken down a while ago but was still in the clubhouse. A couple of the players got it out last night and put it on the bench, I’m assuming for good luck. As for the tape, I think they just taped it to the bench so that it would sit up instead of falling over.

Sincerely,

Jaclyn Simi

Can you imagine if Squinty had to manage an 18 inning game?

Imagine how many stupid moves he could make. That’s two games worth of dumb moves!

There’s no way I would ever leave an extra inning game, and once it got to about 15, there’s NO WAY you could even pry me away from my seat.

Unless the went on to a 6 man rotation, I think they should both have one left, shouldn’t they?

I remember that STL-FLA game

I woke up listened to 5 innings, went out for the day, cam home that evening and the game was still on. All I remember about that Cardinals team is that they had 4 legitimate MVPs on no one who could get any damned outs—like the mid 90s M’s w/o RJ.

also was at the doubleheader where the second game went extra innings. that was awesome. by the 10th of the second game there was like 3000 fans there and we chilled in the 3rd row behind home. awesomeness.

I think it was the 18th inning

when there was a runner on 3rd with 2 outs and the pitcher (Speier) batted. I couldn’t work out why they weren’t PHing him until I checked and saw that both sides had already run out 21 players each (other four are their starting rotation).

so here's a question:

which game, were it to have involved the Ms, would generate more comments:

A) Rangers-Jays game from yesterday

or B) this game

note the LI charts below

So B.

by Librocrat on Apr 18, 2008 12:47 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It does in this sense:

A pitcher, on the Mariners, giving up 0 runs after 8 innings? This would get a lot of comments.

Squeeze would be orgasmic

but it happens in reality too. We need something that only these circumstances could throw up.

Like a position player pitching and letting loose a wild pitch that the runner from 2nd base scores off.
