Temporary - SD at 5 hours, 18 innings
And still going. Do they call these games? Because someone's arm is going to break. To put that Japanese game into perspective, however, the entire San Diego team coming into this inning is only at 249 pitches.
Because I'm fairly positive I'm not at 75 words, my addition to this temporary thread is: Start visiting pdb's site at www.niceguysfinishthird.com so that he writes there more often. The more baseball blogs not written by a doc, the better, amigo.

So the Padres are covering a rams head with athletic tape.

I'll try and get a screencap if I see it again, but it's exactly what it sounds like.
I think the announcers said it was left over from Linebrink’s locker.

There's the ram's head in all its glory

Watching it again, I think its head was getting separated from its neck, so they were trying to secure it.
I don’t know, maybe they are just crazy.

Apparently it was Linebrink's rams head.

Apparently a GLBer emailed the Padres asking what was up with the ram's head.
Hi [Dalton],
Thanks for your email. Some of our pitchers mounted a ram’s head on the wall of the clubhouse a couple of years ago. It was taken down a while ago but was still in the clubhouse. A couple of the players got it out last night and put it on the bench, I’m assuming for good luck. As for the tape, I think they just taped it to the bench so that it would sit up instead of falling over.
Sincerely,
Jaclyn Simi

This game
it would only be right for this to conclude on the most freaky play possible.
Relief pitcher walk-off ITP HR, anyone? What would top that?

I saw the Nationals do that in 2005
Ah, it hurts so good to be a diehard Nats fan. We lost our own 14-inning monstrosity tonight.

Squeeze would be orgasmic
but it happens in reality too. We need something that only these circumstances could throw up.
Like a position player pitching and letting loose a wild pitch that the runner from 2nd base scores off.

it's too bad this game doesn't involve the Cardinals
eventually having to turn to Ankiel to pitch.

You know what would be more likely?
Albert Pujols pitching.

Even better:
A Rox position player pitching to the Padres’ last available reliever (Cla Meredith), and giving up a two-run homer to allow the Pads to win…by 1.
(Because the Rox would’ve scored one in the top of the inning)
