Dickey for #5!
I wonder how good he'd actually be as a regular starter in all seriousness...
by Fett42 on Apr 10, 2008 8:51 AM PDT 0 recs
It was Fresno, of course...
But he did have a no-no through 6 2/3. Ended up w/3 hits and 1 run through 8 (and 7 Ks). WOOT!

I like the idea
.....for next year. This year I agree with Gomez, I think he's better served in Tacoma refining the knuckler a bit more.
He's had two dynamite outings so far, one in ST and one in AAA, he could have a lot of potential.

wasn't he the rangers' #5 for a while
and get the crap kicked out of him?
Although the switch in parks would be a big help.

I thought he was throwing the knuckler then. Kinda remember reading articles about it.

yep
At the beginning of the 2006 season, the Rangers gave Dickey a chance to try out his knuckleball at the major league level by naming him the 5th starter. However, after giving up 6 home runs in his first start on April 6, tying the modern era baseball record with another knuckleballer, Tim Wakefield, he was demoted to the Rangers' Triple-A minor league affiliate, the Oklahoma Redhawks

One game is kind of a small sample size though, and he has had two years to hone the knuckle.

oh I know, I'm not arguing that he hasn't improved
Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy in remembering that he threw a knuckle (or something like it) for Texas in at least one game.

I lived in Texas during those days
And was actually quite fond of RA as an underdog, however he was NOT throwing the knuckle back then. He did throw a weird change/split pitch he called "The Thang", but his other offerings were just to mushy to succeed. But now that he throws the knuckle he is a totally different pitcher.

Yes, he's slow as shit, but he's got a decent arm and at least has plenty of experience playing the outfield, unlike Morse who looks like a man who just touched another man's wang accidentally when he's in the field

is it supposed to be like that? I feel like it's always three or four pitches behind ESPN's gametracker (enough so that I'd rather just follow ESPN and be somewhat more up to the second)

A day in the life of EM:
Woke up at 2.15am, checked game score on phone. Saw M's up 7-1. Saw that BURKE had hit a 3 run homer and proceeded to not be able to fall back asleep due to excitement.
Got up at 6.15am for work. Had to drive to Cardiff today. 320 miles round journey. Had to pay £5.30 [$10+) to cross the Bristol Channel.
Set off back home at 14.30. Arrived back at 17.00. Currently watching repeat of last nights UK Baseball show between the Mets and Phillies.
THE END.
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

Well:
Baseball is shown twice a week here in the wee hours. Back when I was at school/college I used to stay up late during the holidays, and naturally wanted something to watch. When failing to find porn I stumbled upon something that looked like cricket. I watched casually for many years, trying to pick up the rules [baseball is very complicated for an outsider after all]. Eventually when I went to Uni I tried mlb.tv and also discovered sites such as USSM and some UK baseball websites to increase my knowledge.
I don't know why I started to root for the M's, but one of the reasons is because of Ichiro and also because I picked them in franchise mode in MVP Baseball 2005 [Boone, Sexson and Beltre were awesome in that game for opposite field HR power].
And for the past few years I have been hopelessly addicted to the game, even joining a UK baseball team and spending thousands of POUNDS on trips to games and books/merchandise.
I just love the game!
THE END.
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...
