re: 2

people that don't know there's free parking just a 10/15-minute walk away from SafeCo. For instance, on Stacy St btw 6th and Airport Way.

by Matthew on Apr 1, 2008 10:48 AM PDT reply actions

usually gets goobled up 3-4 hrs prior to gametime

Plus those $40 lots have been anywhere from $8-$20 the last few years. Maybe I'm going senile, but I remember run down warehouses being on 4th and 6th, and you could park there for $20-$25, I looks like they were torn down. There also used to be a good lot right by the I-5 on ramp, and there was a building with an old-ass painting of Seahawks stars behind it. that lot was gone too.

I have never seen another person

park on Stacy St for a SafeCo game and I've used that street for every game I go to, ~10/year. I also never get there early.

by Matthew on Apr 1, 2008 11:09 AM PDT up reply actions

Parking is always priced per demand.

Tuesday night against Royals they pay you to park there. Opening Day, NYY or Boston, weekends are always higher priced. I will pay to park on occasion, but I prefer to park free and walk or bus.

Dunno what to tell ya.

In 2001 it seemed like the price of parking went up after each Mariner win. It is never consistent, so I would suggest learning where the free spots are.

re: 6th and Airport Way

I used to park there when I worked at the stadium until my car got robbed. He was a dumb thief though. Left the Sirius and MP3 player but took the pocket change and backpack.

Lots of "free" parking also

If you're lucky enough to work at one of the businesses within a 1 mile radius of the stadium. Kind of sucks when I have to sit around work for an hour or two at the end of the day between finishing up here and going to the stadium (unless I'm in a beer garden mood), but it's better than spending that time in traffic I suppose.

PS

Lots of free parking if you're lucky enough to score it along Utah Ave -- 1 block west of 1st Ave between Starbucks HQ (essentially Lander St) and Edgar Martinez Way. Usually Starbucks employees fill this up until 3-5pm when we go home, so if you don't mind getting to the game a little early you can usually score something in there until 5:30 or so.

Re: #3

At the top of the stadium you miss things like:

Who is that guy warming up?
Did Milton Bradley actually get hit? WTF is going on?

Some of those questions can be solved be having a monitor to refer to.

Sure it wasn't a PSP or Voyager?

DS has no video capability as far as I know - I've never tried it with mine. I know PSP has movie capability, not sure about streaming video.

Voyager is just TV on your phone - I know quite a few guys who do that.

No it was a grey looking game boy thing

and the guy said it was the onlt thing the stadium feed was compatible with.

They have been doing it since last year.

by Robert on Apr 1, 2008 11:38 AM PDT up reply actions

Mmmmm cool

you guys know how to get it to work? This sounds like something I'm interested in.

by seattlebruin on Apr 1, 2008 12:58 PM PDT up reply actions

I think it costs money

but I'm not sure. The M's site probably has information on it in the Safeco Field section, but I haven't checked so I could be wrong.

It's pretty sweet actually

You can watch live video, instant replays, as well as order food and drinks from your seat. They have little kiosks where you can set up your DS for $5. I've never done it, but a guy here at work has.

by okdan on Apr 1, 2008 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, it's definitely very cool

You pay something like $10 to the Nintendo kiosks around Safeco Field (yes, it's DS, guess who owns the Mariners) and they set you up with WiFi-based access. You get the FSN broadcast, which is nice for being able to watch things like pitch location from the less-than-ideal seats I usually snag. And yes, you can order food from your seat -- last year there was a delivery fee, though.

It's very cool. When the bleacher bum next to you claims Felix is throwing like crap, you can show him the replay and point out he's just getting squeezed and some of those walks should be Ks.

Good God

is parking going to be $40 again today? I parked a friggen mile away from Safeco because I didn't have enough cash on me.

by BrianL on Apr 1, 2008 10:56 AM PDT reply actions

Same here.

I'm leaving my house in Everett at about 5:00 and have to pick up my tickets from the StubHub booth, so I'm pushing it as is. Last thing I need is to park as far away from SafeCo as I did yesterday because of the insane parking rates.

by BrianL on Apr 1, 2008 11:02 AM PDT up reply actions

Today shouldn't be a sellout

So it should be less. But still probably $20 in the close lots, maybe $25. I went for a walk at lunch and signs weren't up yet.

Being a workday game and all

Free parking was very hard to come by -- believe me I drove around looking at my typical spots (I wanted to save my $30 for booze). In the end, I decided to park in the QWEST garage. Good choice, too, since our seats were pretty much right by the exit and we were able to get out of the garage in ~20 minutes (i.e. we were in the exit lane near the garage exit before the parking garage was full of traffic).

I had to park at the $35 lot

because my dad can't walk very far for awhile but usually we park somewhere farther/cheaper.

Question

How fast does the Qwest parking garage usually fill up?

by BrianL on Apr 1, 2008 3:03 PM PDT reply actions

Usually it's fine

Yesterday, though, you couldn't use the Safeco garage unless you were a season ticket holder, so I assume that a lot of people went to the Qwest garage instead.
