mlb.tv and firefox
So I have signed up for a premium account at mlb.tv. I've done this for a couple years and never experienced a problem.
I'm having a problem getting games to stream via firefox. I can get it to work in IE just fine, but firefox sits there and does nothing. I downloaded the nexdef plug-in and have the latest wmp (and silverlight).
Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?

Same problem here.
Also, very unhappy that I can't do double screen mode any more in IE.
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

MLBAM is pathetic
They have this product for years. It's a great product. But they continue to mess up the technology. Every year there are so many technical problems with MLB.TV.

fixed.
abp needs to be disabled for mlb.com for silverlight to work.

adblock plus
the best firefox extension ever. If silverlight doesn't work with it that's not good.

Yeah I have that installed.
And no, I'm not removing it.,
Hmm, isn't there supposed to be a scoreboard on LL now? I can't see it. Maybe this is the reason why...

You can just disable abp for a 15 seconds
It's annoying to do that every time, but not the end of the world.

i just made mlb.com an "exception"
kind of sucks to do that, but i'd rather use firefox than IE.
firefox with no additional security software = safer than IE with lots of additional security software.

CC getting all hit up.
Hope that doesn't happen to Bedard today because it will give me real bad GTE pains [same applies to Felix as well].

"Your request is being processed."
MLB.tv is timing out on me. It was working two hours ago, but now I can't get anything to work.

How do you use the old player?
This Silverlight seems more choppy than last year.

How fast is your processor?
I've got a 1.6 GHz Pentium M and running a 400k stream with Silverlight in Firefox takes about 45-65% of my CPU cycles, so it's not choppy for me as long as I don't open any other apps that require much CPU.

Mine's 1.8
I've usually got a ton of Firefox windows open, but nothing else running.
The picture's not awful. It just looks worse than last year, even with the jump from 700K to 800K.

My main problem...
...is that it won't expand to full screen and I can't figure out how to get the URL through Silverlight.
by ubelmann on Mar 31, 2008 3:36 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It'll do that.
From what I've read, the Silverlight player doesn't support DirectX or OpenGL video rendering. This means no ability to play in WMP, and no fullscreen.
Worse off, once you install the silverlight player, the player browser window won't default to the WMP screen. You have to uninstall the silverlight entirely for the fullscreen and external players to work.

No Audio!
I'm getting no audio in either Firefox or IE. And the video quality is abominable, but not bad enough that I couldn't see that sick curveball for the first strikeout.

It got better.
They didn't have the feeds set up on time, so they went lo-fi and no sound until they got it up.

hmm.
thanks for the adblock tip. Is anyone else's 800k stream looking just like 400k though? My tigers stream sure was too.

There is a noticeable difference between 400K and 800K.
1.2 MB very noticeable as well, but it has framing problems (better picture, but is almost like it is being projected off a reel).

i see a big difference between 400 and 800.
most noticeably in the audio. the video is way less pixelated as well.
i don't see as much of a difference between 800 and 1.2. the picture is a bit more clear, i suppose. but overall it's not worth the tax on my bandwidth. maybe if i had a better computer/internet connection.

MLB.tv question
I have a pretty slow connection (~80kbps down) but my computer will have no problems with the video at the best resolution. Do I have any chance to run the high qual video?
And sorry for posting this in more than one thread. Here's to hoping it doesn't become the next Brent Lillibridge Memorial Dead Meme.

Oh, lame
MLB.tv has a bandwidth checker on the site, but I'm at work. Now I'll just pray that my home connection is fast enough...
