Buck or Jacoby
I've seen both these guys play from the early stages in their careers. I wonder if with all the hype of Ellsbury, I'm unfairly but naturally wanting T-Buck to be the one with more potential. Marcel's has them as virtual equals, but with neither getting as many at bats as I think they will. I'm just looking for some insight because their immediate futures is somewhat of an enigma to me right now.

Without diving into the abyss that is minor league stats...
I'm scared to find that Ellsbury is eerily similar to Reed. Am I falling into the trap that the people who have compared Pedroia to Eckstein have fallen into? (White, lefty centerfielder instead of white, small-portioned middle-infielder)

He might be similar to Reed
However that might not be a bad thing. Reed has(had) a good skillset and the type that would translate into a solid MLB player. Reed didn't live up to his potential, but his overall skillset is pretty solid.
Decent fielder
can hit for average, draw a few walks and get a good amount of doubles.
limited power
decent speed
If Ellisbury becomes what Reed SHOULD have been he'll be a solid player.
Ellsbury=Reed.
Enjoy your .260/.330/.380, average defensive CF Boston.
Buck's better.

Which is why I find it so hard to get a grasp of what to expect from him.
I also tend to overvalue players my friends haven't really heard of since there's no risk in saying that Buck will have a breakout season.

compare minor league stats

http://thebaseballcube.com/players/B/Travis-Buck.shtml
Both are same age.
Buck career minor league line: .325/.398/.507/.905
Ellsbury career minor league line: .313/.389/.425/.814
I have a feeling that if their stats end up even close to simular, it will be because Ellsbury plays in a hitters park, and Buck in a pitchers.
If Buck could actually stay on the field...
I'd take him, sure. I guess I'm just a little bit jaded by guys like Rich Harden.
Buck is pretty much Rocco Baldelli with slightly better mitochondria at this point.

Buck - a scrapy, local, white guy...
its a wonder the mariners haven't traded the farm for him actually.
Ellsbury in the short term
I think McAfee cavern and the focus that comes from being one of the key bats in a bleh lineup is going to give Buck fits.
