And Dickey and Norton to the minors.
Prospects are under-valued.

What the fuck are these morons doing to my team?
by Graham on Mar 29, 2008 12:17 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Bending it over
So I get to watch Wilkerson flail against righties all year and Morse butcher RF. No Norton who actually was a useful bat. Instead we have Willie, Cairo & Jimerson who will hit nothing and thus further making use of the bench pointless. The whole team will be tired by late August.
Same as it ever was.

With the exception of Dickey
I like these moves. Hopefully Morse will keep hitting and earn the everyday job.
Still, I think Dickey should have made it over Beak. If anything, he would have been more fun to watch.

It keeps a good option at AAA
Just in case. Not to jinx anything, but injuries DO happen. Baek would have been lost completely.

So, Dickey's gone?
Don't we have to send him back to the Twins or the Brewers or wherever he came from?
Curse you, Detroit Lions!
by Coach Owens on Mar 29, 2008 12:24 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
No he's back at Tacoma
Traded a minor league catcher to keep him there. Some nobody, from what I gather.

Jair (CJ) Fernandez
Played limited A ball last year due to injuries. Wasn't showing much anyway. Not much to give up.

Great on Morse
But couldn't they have kept Dickey and ditched Cairo instead?
by AZSEAfan on Mar 29, 2008 12:25 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Idiots still running the show
Sending Morrow down needed to happen....but they send him down to STILL be a reliever...what the hell was the purpose of winter ball and extending him out again? This is the opportunity to keep the winter ball mentality going..dumbasses.
Then the put a platoon on the wrong OF.....They can't even fuck up right.
I fucking hate you Mariners

Whilst I agree we need Morrow in the SR
He went to WB before we signed two new starters, which made Morrow redundant to the win-now M's.
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

I'm aware..the 'looking to the future' in me says don't
send him down to the minors to be a reliever damnit....We are wasting his value away.

So start him for Raul vs. LHP!
Why won't this fucking team platoon him? He's not a fan favorite anymore! The crowd cheers Ichiro and Willie God Damn Bloomquist more than him. If Raul doesn't play 2 times a week, I think people will forgive them. This is fucking horse shit.
Good morning everyone, by the way.

Why the fuck aren't we platooning Raul
God damn these stupid mother fuckers who can't read the most basic stat sheets that are available freely to everyone. When the fuck will this team start giving a fuck about winning motherfucking baseball games instead of pleasing crowd favorite? Brad Wilkerson's OPS is NINETEEN POINTS BETTER VS. LHP THAN RHP OVER HIS CAREER. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BULLSHIT?

Trading an A baller to keep Dickey
makes this decision worthwhile. I think Dickey's still developing his knuckler, and I'd rather give him extended work in Tacoma to do that, than have him play the Sean White role in Seattle. Baek, meanwhile, helps the team right now, is basically developed in whatever he's gonna be, and gives the pen a swingman that can step in at a moment's notice and start if it comes to that.
As for the Morse/Wilkerson platoon, I'm on board. I'd think that a couple years of spot practice has helped him progress from the guy who was watching flying seagulls while the ball dropped ten feet in front of him in LF during 2005-2006. He's not much of a defender but would you rather have Wilkerson looking helpless against LH SPs just to upgrade the RF defense from poor to passable?
Morse's bat is a useful one, and against LHPs it'll have a platoon edge. There are worse decisions this team could've made.
by Gomez on Mar 29, 2008 12:43 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
No...
I bet they're not convinced his ball will do better Northwards, so they're sticking him in Tacoma to see how the ball dances.

Saunders is good.
Strikes out a lot but actually draws walks and hits for a decent average with good power. I like him too.

and he'll probably become a serious part of the conversation for either LF or RF.

I know this is off topic but...
is there a worse actor than Chris Klein? Damn he is terrible. I'm sitting here watching Say it Ain't So (not much on Danish tv), and I laugh everytime he tries to be serious.

[ot]
I'M KIDDING.
Chris Klein looks like the cookie cutter stud prototype in that weird Jockey commercial. His look is the only reason he gets roles, because as you noticed, he has no acting talent.

Morse/Wilkerson
The only reason they're doing this is because Morse is hot and Wilkerson is new.
Morse cools off...Wilkerson plays more. Doesn't bother me none.
by ThundaPC on Mar 29, 2008 4:57 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
People forget this
If Morse doesn't produce, it just means Wilkerson plays everyday. This is not the end of the team.

It's a bad decision, period
bad decisions are to be criticized, not ignored.

How many runs is this going to cost the team?

as long as Raul is playing everyday, and Vidro is the DH, and...

According to Ron Fairly, if it's four we lose a win.
I'd imagine 2-5 or so without doing any math or real analysis of any sort, which could be a win in the standings.

This is a fucking retarded decision. Good teams don't make these decisions. Good teams don't choose to give away runs on purpose.

This isn't even permanent.
This only lasts if Morse hits. If he doesn't hit, the "platoon" is over. It's that simple.
by ThundaPC on Mar 29, 2008 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Plus, if we asked Mike Hargrove about this
he'd probably tell us it's not a platoon at all. And who knows more about baseball than Mike Hargrove?
by Jeff on Mar 29, 2008 9:45 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
this is rhetorical right?
because if not it's going to take me a couple days to compile the full list.
by Matthew on Mar 29, 2008 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm pretty sure it was rhetorical.
And Reed/Bloomquist was not a platoon.....honest!
by ThundaPC on Mar 29, 2008 10:11 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
No it doesn't
Morse might hit superficially tolerably, but the defence will be ignored.
by Graham on Mar 30, 2008 2:12 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Someone clearly forgot to tell McLaren
Spring. Training. Stats. Do. Not. Count. For. Shit
I'm surprised they aren't benching Bedard right now if they're finding an imaginary place for Morse on this team, based solely on his Spring Training performance. Apparently short term results only matter if you're doing well, if you're doing poorly you just have to ride out the badness (even if it ends up being not so short term).
Morse sucks, he is not nearly, NEARLY as good as his spring training performance indicates, it's a small sample size in a time of fake baseball that means absolutely NOTHING. He isn't a passable major leaguer ANYWHERE when you look at his true ability (okay, maybe the Giants). He's terrible at OF defense, he's hit terribly in the minors, his platoon with Wilkerson makes no goddam sense since WIlkerson does not need a platoon at all......
The lunatics are running the fucking asylum, god.......dammit.
