Cha Seung Baek vs. Greg Norton

Last spot on the roster has basically come down to this. Bullpen is Putz, Lowe, Green, Dickey, EOF, and RRS. Bench is Willie, Cairo (boo!), Burke, and Morse. Are you a 7 man bullpen or a 5 man bench kinda guy? Vote now.

Cha Seung Baek:

Pros & Cons --

  • Can protect Lowe's arm from overuse
  • Might gain slight uptick in velocity moving into bullpen
  • Not Brandon Morrow
  •

  • Has mostly been a starter his professional career
  • Not a very good one, either
  • Name is not very funny, much unlike Brian Bocock's
  • Greg Norton:

    Pros & Cons --

  • Filled with veteran-y goodness
  • Kinda good vs. righties, I guess
  • Has a 'stache
  •

  • Would risk losing Baek on waivers if Norton made team
  • Doesn't add much defensively
  • Would also risk making the Baek face collage obsolete.
  •

    Baek is the definition

of Replacement level... Norton at least brings some offense to a bench devoid of it....

    Baek.

    ...and now I'm here

gotta hold on to baek at least

until we get through spring w/o starter injuries. Baek is above replacement level, I think,

    Norton=totally replaceable

On the one hand, Baek is better

On the other hand, I want us to go with a 5 man bench. Bah.

    Voted for Baek anyway.

    Pony please

This feels like as meaningless a choice as any 25th spot usually is. Neither player will be with us come July.

    Baek

    Mclaren will never use Norton.

    Baek

He is out of options, more useful as a pitcher than Norton is as a hitter, and McLaren's not one to use his bench much anyway.

    But

I voted for the Flesh Eating Pony, whose cannibalist approach to life has to be worth more runs than the other two combined.

Flesh eating ponies don't eat other ponies

They only eat the people responsible for this bullshit.

I'd be worried that during a visit to the front office

The pony would be confused by so many potential meals that he would be disoriented and slain by his foes.

    He is recruiting other members

If Jose Vidro is in the room

    there shouldn't be any confusion.

    Baek

Can't render the face collage useless.

    If we had a team

that actually used the bench I'd say Norton. But we don't. So Baek

    Both or maybe Jimerson

Since Willie missed most of ST and isn't sharp (even for him) he should go on the DL for 15 or 20 to get some rehap work.

After 3 times thru the rotation the coaches will have a better idea of the bullpen needs.

Maybe Cairo will prove his worth (or lack of) and could be more easily justified or removed.

As a minor side benefit, other clubs may be willing to offer something for Baek/Morse/Jimerson if they are with the club instead of hanging out at the employment center.
    _____________

Or just cut them all and trade a minor leaguer that the front office is tired of seeing on the 40 man for someone elses 25/26th man.

    New orders for my diary

So Dickey didn't make the team, but at least they managed to keep him. Still, Jimerson and Baek isn't what I had in mind. I guess McLaren really likes speed and Korea.

Therefore, anyone who votes on this poll from this point on must vote for "Flesh eating pony".
