Seattle MLS Updates
The future MLS franchise is holding an open vote right now amongst anyone on what the name of the team should be. We're given one of four choices:
-Seattle Alliance
-Seattle Republic
-Seattle FC
-Write in
Clearly the hope is for some retention of Sounders in the name (see our plea with the Sonics, SeattleMLS ownership group? We care about tradition here.), but there's a temptation to break with that. If enough people use it via the write-in though... Of the three pre-selected options, Seattle FC strikes me as serviceable but bland (and dammit it should be SC, not FC) and Seattle Alliance as far too Saturday morning cartoony. Seattle Republic is my favorite of the three, but that still pales in comparison to something with Sounders in it.
Seattle Sounders SC. How much more awesome is that?
Anyways, perhaps to distract from the boring choices they've given us, this rumor comes along which states:
Steven Cohen of World Soccer Daily reported today that the new Seattle MLS franchise is in "advanced negotiations" with [Thierry Henry] and could lure him out of Barcelona in time for Seattle's inaugural season in 2009. Cohen did not reveal his source -- natch -- but did call it a "very good authority" on matters concerning Seattle.
Go wild.

I agree on the FC
I hate that teams are all changing their names to ______ FC or Real ______. We don't call it football or futbol, and Real is not English, even though when they say it for the MLS teams, the say "real" like you would in english... fuck that shit.
MLS is not European soccer. If geographic evidence is not enough for them to see this, they should watch a few games of each, and they might see some subtle blaring differences. I like the MLS, by the way, I just think they try to hard to be an imitator and its about the worst facade ever...
Thats my rant, I vote for Sounders, obviously.
Matthew you beat me to it
One thing though... ANYONE can vote with a valid email address, not just future ST holders. This means you. Go vote. And vote for something with Sounders in it.
I'm badgering Cohen to give more info regarding Henry and he's not saying anything. I doubt Adrian H will either. Dunno about 'advanced negotiations,' but has there been communication/some sort of negotiation? ....yeah probably.
50 bucks per deposit
probably 15 to 50 bucks per game depending on your richness, but that ish hasn't officially been announced yet
ok cool
I doubt I will be able to afford it anyways
I'm disappointed that there isn't
a "Mr. Splashypants" type option.
reminds me of one of my favorite Daily Show bits

I would go see Thierry Henry
even if by the time he got here he could barely walk, which given the rate at which he's deteriorating, will probably be sometime next Wednesday. He's one of my top 5 all time players and I'd love the chance to see him up close again.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
he started the season so well
I had high hopes :(
Never doubt Wenger when he lets a player go
I can't think of a single player Wenger has let go that has improved his career once he's left Arsenal. The man is an amazing judge of not only talent but when that talent has started to decline.
Henry has sciatica, which is a permanent thing and will inhibit his playing career forever; he plays about one game in 5 now, and he's not nearly the player he was. If this rumor is true and he makes it to Seattle in 2009, he'll be a broken-down shell of what he used to be, and it'll be sad, but I'll still go see him.

I like names related to corporate owners
for soccer. I would call them Vulcan Seattle.

The Sounders
are Seattle. Always have been since the late 70's. Just like Tacoma had the Stars in the 80's.
