I should have felt cheated
So today, I headed over to Peoria (1.5 miles away) to watch the final Mariners game in their Arizona portion of Spring Training. The ticket clearly indicates a 1:05 start but for some reason the game is in the top of the first upon our 12:15 "early" arrival. I finally got the chance to watch a King start and he is utterly sucktastic.
My dad was amazed that I could guess 90% of his pitches before he threw them. Said father, whose mind cannot process anything trickier than AVG, "it seems like everytime he throws really hard, the other team seems to hit it very hard". Why does my father know this yet the Mariners organization and "guru" Mel chooses to "establish the fastball"? Some things never change. Time for another open letter? Maybe more IM'ing?
Turns out that Felix was one of only four MLB-level Mariners to play in this game. I don't remember getting a reduced-price ticket to watch kids that even most of you have never heard of. The other big club members were Kenji, Pepe, and Boom-Boom who each played about half the game. I explained the "Pepe" commercial to my father and then realized a) how stupid the commercial actually is and b) how retarded I sound actually trying to explain the stupid commercial. Anyhow.
What resulted was one of the most slopperific yet entertaining games I have seen live in quite some time. The two teams combined for over 30 hits, a few stolen bases, 4 or 5 monster shots (not to be confused with fan shots), 6 errors, along with just a couple of errant pitches actually hitting the backstop netting on the fly.
Thanks to the Minor League updates that Gomez furnished throughout the 2007 season, I somehow got hooked on a couple of players such as Greg Halman and Mark Kiger. Both of these guys put on a very good show with each going yard and Kiger putting up more than a couple of hits. The Padres' "major-leaguers" seemed absolutely terrrified to run on Halman who started in RF and later shifted to Center. By my count, there were five opportunuties that baserunnners had a likely chance of advancing to the next base safely only to slam on the brakes. Free Greg Halman.
So, since there is absolutely no point to this whole "fanpost", I ask you this: who are some of the lower-level players that you are fans of? Is there anything currently in the Rookie - AA range to be excited about sans Aumont (and Triunfel)? Does Halman have a shot in a couple of years?
Have at it...and Free Greg Halman! Oh yeah, the game was a 10-10 tie called after 9 innings. Meh.

C'mon Graham
Someone a little less obvious.
You scratch our backs, we'll scratch yours. Well Jules, the funny thing about my back is that it's located on my $#%&.

and once again...
how felix pitched in this ST game is not indicative of anything. For now, no open letter necessary.
I'm in tempe, and i was gonna go to this game, but I had class this afternoon. I was also going to the other SS game against the giants, since they play about a mile down the road from me in scottsdale. I went to their site to find tickets, and the only ones available were $97. I was confused for a few minutes before realizing that theyre playing at AT&T Park in San Fran... I wish I would have gotten to see a couple more games before they headed north, but alas...

Felix
It's not the results so much as it is the over-reliance on the fastball that I am concerned about.
Thank goodness you didn't buy those SF tickets.

Reduced price?
You can sit on the lawn for $6. Tickets four rows behind home plate are $19. The same seats at Safeco are $350. How much more reduced do you want it?
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

lo-minors guys
I'm interested in Nick Hill and Nolan Gallagher; they strike me as the odd couple of low-minors pitchers. One's not very talented but pitches intelligently to get the most out of what may simply not be MLB quality stuff. The other's incredibly talented, but has had problems...sucking. I don't know if he's just wild, or if his FB is straight or what.
Juan Carlos Ramirez is obvious. We'll see about Edward Paredes. Oh, and Danny Carroll.
btw, Mark Kiger was in the Mets organization last year, so don't blame Gomez for your irrational mancrushes.

Peguero, too
I also like Hill, but I'm not sure why.

Danny Carroll
Looks like a boy among men on the field. The guy looks to be about 140 pounds. I only blame Gomez for the Halman mancrush. The Kiger mancrush is new for me probably because he's like 5'5" and 190 pounds. He looks more like a UFC fighter than a middle infielder.

He was drafted last year
out of HS. He's only played rookie ball. He actually IS a boy among men when he's starting a cactus league game.
Still, he's got good contact skills (when not facing Chris Young) and good speed. We'll see.
