AL West Preview

http://www.nobiasbaseball.com/2008/03/nbb-division-preview-al-west.html

Mariners picked to finish first. I had you guys and the Angels relatively close, then the Escobar injury put you guys ahead by a wide margin in my eyes.

I wouldn't say "wide"

Maybe "margin." We're still one injury away from complete disaster.

Thinking about it, who can't we stand to lose? And how is that different than any other team?

Bedard, Felix, Ichiro, Beltre, Putz? One injury to any other player on the roser wouldn't necessarily devestate us.

The sad part is, what does that say about our team? Most players are mediocre and not too tough to replace?

Prospects are under-valued.

for that very

reason I’m still not sold the M’s winning the AL West

Yes.

Those 5. For the sole reason our team is this mediocre, if any of those 5 get injured, we're pretty much doomed.

On Cleveland, for example, if Sabathia gets injured their hitting and the rest of their pitching should/could pick up most of the slack, regardless of the run drop off. If Felix goes down, we have no chance.

That's kinda the thing. Besides our starters, it's too difficult to see how we're actually good. Lose one of those few players that is clearly good and we're not left with much.

I'm almost sorry I even brought that up now.

It made me a sad panda.

Prospects are under-valued.

Like I said.

I can't see this team beyond 78 wins, though only when viewing them on a subjective level. There are simply too many bad players on the team.

I think we can get into the 80's if everyone plays decently,

and maybe a few guys jump out and have big years (Beltre, Felix, are you listening?).

Prospects are under-valued.

I recognize that.

But that's objective talk. Subjectively I can't see how this team is very good, and how those numbers manage to work themselves out like that, even if they do.

I don't know.

They're three injuries down and still have the ability to win the west.

Also, their GM is smarter than ours.

Let's face it, M's need luck and have to deal for a bat

With Beltre's nagging injury making it unlikely he will bust out this year. I don't see how this team, without big years from Beltre and Sexson, have the horses to get it done in the AL West. I'm not sure how or who, but they need to deal for a hitter. I hope the M's at least TRIED to get Brian Roberts as part of a larger deal with BAL. Positioned correctly our package, plus Lopez and Clement, should have done it.

More support for win by default:
