3/25: Holy Hell It's A Regular Season Open Game Thread

I'm posting this as a diary because who the balls is watching baseball at three in the morning?

Graham's note: Me. Lineups.

First Pitch: 3:05am PDT this isn't a typo

Pedroia 2B Buck RF Youkilis 1B Ellis 2B Ortiz DH Barton 1B Ramirez LF Cust DH Lowell 3B Brown LF Drew Moss RF Crosby SS Varitek C Hannahan 3B Ellsbury CF Suzuki C Lugo SS R. Sweeney CF ---------- ----------

Matsuzaka (0-0, 0.00) Blanton (0-0, 0.00)

Red Sox: 81 home games in Boston
A's: 79 home games in Oakland, two home games in Japan where everyone will be cheering for Matsuzaka and Okajima

The East Coast bias has reared its head early this year.

Always gotta watch the first baseball game of the
season, regardless of who is in it or when it is.

But goddamn, this is testing my limits.

These pretzels....are making me thirsty!

by Goose on Mar 24, 2008 10:55 PM PDT   0 recs

Isn't this how Graham and EM always feel?
I am never moving to Europe. At least in Asia the games begin after you wake up in the morning. NHK used to broadcast every Mariners game, but now I believe it is the Red Sox.

by Wilder83 on Mar 24, 2008 10:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Exactly it
We're only 7 hours ahead this week but return to our own summer time next week and will be back to 8 hours come Opening Day, meaning that those 7pm PT games will begin at 3am for us.

Welcome to our world. A world where you plan your sleep schedule two weeeks in advance so as not to make ridiculous plans to be out of the house from 8-11pm as that's when you're making up your sleep.

A world where you've just been watching the Mariners take on the Angels for four and a half hours and somehow you're late for work.

A world where Dave Niehaus is drowned out by the sound of morning birdsong.

Yep
Night games in Seattle always start at 3.05am GMT.
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

THE GAME STARTS AT 6 FOR THE SOX AND 3 FOR THE A'S!!

EAST COAST BIAS!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna stay up and watch, go sox! reduce the AL west to a 3 way tie for 1st.

by MFAN on Mar 24, 2008 10:56 PM PDT   0 recs

Well...
It's 7:05 PM for me.

Woo... Baseball... That will cut off in the middle of the 7th inning because Japanese baseball coverage is a horseshit burrito dipped in barbed wire and broken glass..

Fuck territorial restrictions.

You know?
I feel sorta dirty saying this, but since the division's on the line:

GO BOSTON!!!!

Honestly -- if it weren't for their shitty fans, I could probably actually root for Boston.  When they're playing the Yankees or anyone in our division, I actually DO root for Boston...

I dislike Oakland as much as anyone...
But I would prefer Matsuzaka and Okajima falling flat on their faces and eating shit in front of 125 million fans.

Agreed.
It's also a great opportunity for both offenses to pad their stats.

by Wilder83 on Mar 24, 2008 11:11 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

We can make it a win-win situation, then...
Daisuke gets plastered for 15 hits and 6+ runs, but Boston beats Oakland 10-9.  Okajima comes into the second game and gives up a grand slam, but Boston wins the game still 8-4...

I will be staying up for the first pitch.
Don't know long long I'll last after that. They do re-run it in the morning.

Because why not?  It's spring break (WOOOOO) for me, so what else should I be doing?

I will have a delicious 3AM breakfast of Hot dogs and beer.  Yum

Absolutely I will
be watching this game.  I work a pretty whacked out schedule anyway, so 3am is about when I normally go to bed, so a bit late tonight isn't so bad.  Also, I've got my tv running through my sexy new 22 inch wide screen computer monitor. Oh, and it's BASEBALL!!  One week until the Ms begin, so this will have to do until then.

Of course the analyst thinks
His only being signed for 1 year makes him a free agent at the end of the season.  It's two years of club control, even if the dollar amount is only decided for this year buddy.

But I too have crazy man-love for Erik Bedard.

Run support doesn't matter though, he sucks
Scroll down to Florida here

He's a 6.00 ERA pitcher at the root of his talents. He's really as bad as Horacio.  I wish I was exaggerating here because I used to like Dontrelle, but it's the truth.

Heating up the water to boil the dogs.
Now, I have a question...

Which beer should I choose?  I have--

Stella Artois (3)
Pilsner Urquell (5)
Kokanee (1, can)

Can only drink 3 total if I want to bring a sixer to Matthew's on Sunday, since I currently have nine.

Ahhh I'm stoked.

Only it doesn't quite count
Wait until it's an Ms game and it'll replicate.  They'd need to implant some more emotion to know how you/we feel.

Now that your course is almost up, are you staying here or going back to America, Graham?
