The Great Clutch Project
The Great Clutch Project
Time to put up or shut up:
http://www.tangotiger.net/clutch/
"So, you think you know who is the clutch hitter on your team? You think you know who you want at bat with the game on the line? Well, let's find out.
Go through your favorite team's roster, and select the one GREAT clutch hitter, the one guy you want at bat, when the game is on the line. One selection will do. If you like, you can go through each player, and note how good or bad a clutch hitter he is.
I will go through the same list of players, and simply select the best hitter on the team, period. We'll come into conflict in a few places, like with the Cardinals (Pujols), and Angels (Vlad). In that case, we'll go to our number 2 guys. "

It seems to me that Ichiro
depends
ok, with men on
2 down, bases empty, down by one, bottom of the ninth, RHP on the hill, I'm taking Raul (shudders)
I'm taking Mike Hargrove
and looking up his numbers

And to think 10 years ago we had Griffey, Edgar, and A-Rod.
If I think Yuni is our clutch hitter
a) me
b) the team
c) all of the above?

You read Jeff's writeup
Yuni was clutch in '07
Yuni might raise his game to a .775 OPS in the clutch (he doesn't), but he'd still be a worse hitter than normal Ibanez.
all of the above

Ichiro is obvious
Vidro
Beltre
Betancourt
Ibanez
Of these, Betancourt seems the biggest stretch - he did pretty well there last year, but his approach at the plate might suggest that his 'clutchness' last year isn't sustainable.
But I'd take Vidro, Beltre, or Ibanez (against a RH pitcher).
Wlad, Morse and Clement are all in the next tier.
I don't really see what's surprising

i would say that if betancourt's clutch
it isn't sustainable

Oh, I didn't know he got a choice.
Side Note #2...
I didn't want to post a single diary towards it, but I didn't see anyone parlaying for Reed Johnson in LF instead of Raul!?!
It's there

Ah, now I understand your screen name.
And tell your brother to re-sign with us when he hits free agency. After all, we like bringing fan favorite LOOGYs back (Norm Charlton, Arthur Rhodes).

Glad to see someone knows the service. We market it, although not much lately. It has helped us as well, and it helps make a little extra money here and there.
