I'd like to have a chat with the MLB rulebook people. Seems we have different definitions of the term 'perfect game'.

Surely the picture would have sufficed.
Thanks Jeff for the countdown, the memories, and all the great write-ups.

I can't argue
This was one of the most fun baseball games I've had the pleasure to watch.

Felix nearly no-noing.
Felix nearly no-noing the Red Sox.
Felix nearly no-noing the Red Sox in Fenway.
Felix, on national TV, showing the world who the better pitcher was, spoilering the home debut of one expensive Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Felix showing his incredible potential.
The Red Sox lose.

All kinds of fun!  Now if only he hadn't thrown that first pitch fastball up to JD Drew...

I will not make jokes in my sig. I will not make jokes in my sig. I will not...

all hail the king
after recapping all those awesome moments I feel ready for next year

This game made me a fan
of Felix Hernandez, because at the time Daisuke Matsuzaka was getting silly amounts of hype and ESPN was going nuts over his first start in Fenway park.  All I could think was that I wanted somebody, ANYBODY, to shut them up because we weren't going to stop hearing about him till he lost.  Watching Felix come in and just wipe out the Red Sox was truly awesome, and he's more than welcome to do it as many times as he can this year. :)

Jeff, your intro on the Gamethread is prophetic...
If you've got any friends or family who have yet to be indoctrinated into the King Felix religion, be sure to sit them down in front of a TV tonight so they can witness his incredible power for themselves. It may not work out as well as we want it to, but the chance is definitely there, and repeating his Opening Day performance today could make Felix an instant legend. Don't miss this. While a loss could be devastating, an impressive win might just turn out to be the high point of the season, and years from now we might all meet up and reflect on where we were the night that Felix dominated the Red Sox in their own dilapidated house on national television.
Perfect. This made me want to rewatch the game on MLB.tv today. The season can't start soon enough.

Great game, great top 50.
A deserving winner as well.

This is the only Mariners game that has been on TV here in 5 years.  If it wasn't for mlb.tv, this would be the only Mariner game I had ever watched [apart from the ones I went to in Safeco].

In those five years, could there have been a more perfect game for the M's to have shown?  I can't think of one.

And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

When it comes to last season
There's no better image than that one.

my god that was great
watched this game with a diehard Sox fan who, on seeing the curve and slider had no problem with his team losing. The guy just shook his head and shrugged and said 'what are they supposed to do with that?'

by Bearskin Rugburn on Mar 23, 2008 5:10 PM PDT reply actions

I miss that Felix.
His curve and slider were never the same post injury.

Someone far more intelligent than myself should look at his pitch f/x data and see whether that assumption is true, or whether I just pulled it out of my arse.

And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

In my mind...
It's the fastball that really sticks out in my mind from that game.  I'd never seen Felix's fastball move with that crazy swerve before...and haven't since.  :(

Here's to 2008!

Bow down to the King.
These pretzels....are making me thirsty!

It really was the only choice.
I still have this game on my DVR and have problably watched it(except the parts when we're on offense) over 10 times.

No Contest

Easily the greatest moment of Mariners baseball for this year or in recent memory.

Felix was puttin' on a clinic, truly amazing how foolish he made them all look at the plate.

Along with most everybody else I agree with
this being #1.  Personally the second greatest game Ive EVER attended.

Jeff, thanks a ton for this countdown, it helped me get through an offseason that seemed to drag on forever.

I'll fuck you till you love me!

You've been to a game better than this one?

Hi there.
My name is Red. I've received an Autographed bat by Adrian Beltre, my favorite player of all time, during a game, simply for being his fan.
...and now I'm here

Thanks, Jeff
I love good baseball and good writing and you've provided both through this miserable off-season. Now I have hope that even if we suck this season, you'll find a way to cheer me up next off-season.

FWIW, Sid
Your brother getting those two massive bases loaded K's back to back against the Cubs in Wrigley is one of MY top 2007 moments.

Now, go back to the picture..
Look at the guy between Kenji and Yuk; he looks dissapointed. Now, look at the guy at Kenji's Right hand; HE looks suprised. Now, quick look at Felix again....I could look at those three people in that order for a LONG time and get spurts of glee every single time.

NOW, Its game 2 of Felix's 1st postseason...I want THAT 'Tyranasaur of man carnage' on the mound, especially if Bedar has already delivered a tough 4-3 victory in game 1. :)

I have a cousin with 1 testicle, when they yell play ball, he smiles.
