Soriano, Sherrill to Close this Year
Two recent ex-Mariners will be closing this year...
Mixed feelings ensue.

On the one hand, these are great ex-Mariners who didn't choose to leave the club, so we should be happy for them. After all, with JJ around, they would never have the opportunity to close in Seattle, barring some sort of major injury.
On the other hand, of course, it's hard to imagine a more stifling bullpen than one consisting of three potential closers, especially given that Sherrill's a lefty and Soriano's a righty. When this is compounded with the realities of the HoRam trade for Soriano, the whole picture looks pretty bleak. Only time will tell how Bedard holds up and whether AJ blossoms to help determine the validity of the more recent trade, but it's tough to see so many great ex-M's slamming doors elsewhere.

You don't know what you got.
Okay, well, we ALL knew what we were losing in Soriano. A few of us knew George's value, too...
i think it's time to get over it
Being a closer is great and they both deserve a shot at it.
leaving aside the whole trades thing its just great to see two great baseball relievers get a chance to be closers. and we know both of them are likely going to rock at it.
key thing being - they did not leave seattle out of choice + played valuable roles while they were here.
its totally your choice if you want to have mixed feelings. i'm just happy for them.
and we have jj putz who's undeniably the #1 closer in the league (all arguments are fueled by monetary concerns or by ignorance).
