Spring Training

It's Spring Training.

Cairo, .318
Morse, .526
Ichiro, .105
Silva, 9.20
Baek, 0.82
Bedard, 9.69
Putz, 7.20

None of it matters.

None of it matters.

If you're in the process of writing a post, and you begin with "I know it's just Spring Training, but", don't write the post.

I love fake baseball!
And by "love", I mean "ignore due to small sample size and the fact that Cactus League ballparks are ridiculous!"

I know it's just spring training but.....

Could someone please throw a rock at the bugle guy?

I didn't realize it was Spring Training.
I thought the playoffs were right around the corner. Where the hell have I been?

OT:
Rev's lacking stuff to write about -- has to scrape the bottom of the barrel -- leading to this juicy article. The irony is utterly delicious.

I Wonder....
The inanity of that post by Rev makes me want to go dig through his 2006-2007 offseason posts and see what he thought of Gary Matthews Jr.

Good luck with your second ZOMG expensive CF in two years, Anaheim.

Bill James must've
"touched" him as a child --> his utter hate for statistical analysis.

Jeff, I live in the same city as you
Please don't go all Unabomber on me

 LL in a nutshell:

"Probability is that [Lackey's and Escobar's] injuries - assuming their given timelines are correct - make the Angels a win or two worse. And that, in turn, improves the Mariners' chances of winning the division by roughly 6-12%. That's pretty substantial. I'm still deathly afraid of watching our offense, but even so I feel like we're getting closer and closer to pulling up right alongside the preseason favorites." -Jeff
- link to desperate optimism -

Of course, Jeff makes sure to discredit his own statement by reminding us of small sample sizes, etc., so he doesn't look like an irrational fanboy. But it's this stream-of-consciousness loopy ranting that makes reading LL an excellent example of why IT guys shouldn't have blogs. Just because you're a genius and you use a computer to publish your manifesto doesn't prove that you're more well-adjusted than Ted Kaczynski.

Don't you love SoCal sports fans?

Your first mistake was reading HH
your second mistake was continuing to read HH.

by Jeff Sullivan on Mar 17, 2008 8:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Cheater, you deleted your first post.
Heh.

In any case, the frequency of these types of posts on HH hints "insecure."

by redwolf75 on Mar 17, 2008 8:13 PM PDT up reply actions

I didn't like the way the first one sounded
but seriously, there's no reason to read HH. None.

by Jeff Sullivan on Mar 17, 2008 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions

It's funny!
Also, sometimes, I think between here and USSM, we get a little caught up in thinking our way is the best way to discuss baseball, and that we might just be kinda homerish.

Then I read HH and remember how no one beats Angels fans. Not even the mythical Red  Sox Nation.

by seattlebruin on Mar 17, 2008 8:18 PM PDT up reply actions

This has nothing to do with the type of discussion
and everything to do with the quality of discussion.

Also, "homer" is the complete opposite of most of the criticism hurled towards myself and USSM.

by Jeff Sullivan on Mar 17, 2008 8:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Too true.
That's what makes Rev's post even more amusing.

by redwolf75 on Mar 17, 2008 8:31 PM PDT up reply actions

That's the point
I realize you guys write very well. And that the good folks of HH do not.

I tend to think of him as
coach owens aged 40 years in an AK1984 barrel.

40 years of failing at life
and all that irritating innocence and wide-eyed optimism turns into the baseball blog equivalent of a hard-right nationalist in the mold of Le Pen.

by Bearskin Rugburn on Mar 18, 2008 5:21 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't know what you're talking about
all the Angels fans I've ever met tend to be upstanding, confident members of their community, and are extremely knowledgeable about baseball. They're very open minded to new ideas, and I for one, enjoy spending time at their beautiful, rat-infested excuse for a baseball stadium.

by seattlebruin on Mar 17, 2008 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions

hey don't lump everyone in with them
Visiting angels fan and I have sought refuge here in an effort to have intelligent baseball discussions.

I think we've both had it up to here with the Rex Hudler scrappyness praise and the flagrant manlove for little white guys.

by Eyebrows on Mar 17, 2008 8:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't worry - I don't hate all Angels fans
after all, my best friend is a rather rabid one =)

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
This is the 6th most proud moment of my blogging career!!

*highfive*
The amusing part of all this is that any Angels and Mariners projections run have been trying to show just how big the gap between us and them is - i.e. why the Bedard trade was stupid.

Don't worry Jeff.
Coach Owens to the rescue!!!
...and now I'm here

The funniest conversation I had
in my week at ST last week was with the guy behind me at the M's/Giants game on Saturday, who kept insisting that Ichiro was "over the hill" and that this would "probably be his last year before heading to Japan to pad his stats some more".

He was drunk
so me and my friends just kept messing with him until we left to go get drunk ourselves.

Haha, I take it back.
Always fun to mess with drunk people.

You neglected
to mention my .438 average and 7 home runs.

What do you mean it doesn't matter?!

I know it's just spring training
but guys, Miguel Cairo is hitting .THREE EIGHTEEN

I bet that under all
this so called "Hatred" that you have for ST is really just a cover up, right Jeff?
