Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Griffey

No, this isn't a diary about some nonsensical fantasy of bringing him back to Seattle.  I am, however, still a fan with fond memories, so it's nice to see this:

Cincinnati right fielder Ken Griffey told Hall of Fame President Dale Petroskey during his visit to Reds' camp that he would prefer to wear a Seattle cap on his plaque in Cooperstown.

Technically
I totally missed that diary.

Not your fault.
You can't read them all.
...and now I'm here

by Librocrat on Mar 17, 2008 9:18 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes you can.
You clearly don't spend enough time obsessively refreshing LL just to see new comments.

by Llewdor on Mar 17, 2008 11:38 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Side note:
never take an entire week off reading/posting at LL.  Catching up is very time consuming.

You guys may not realize it
but I own your souls. I've put together an impressive collection in the cellar.

So it's YOUR fault
that I got the flu on my last day of vacation.  Damn you.

On a related note, I will never not read LL again.

Every time I miss a day
I basically miss a day and a half, since it takes several hours to get caught up. So, yeah, vacations are rough.

I actually made the decision
to stay completely away from computers all week, even though there was one at my sister's house.  It was good - not that I'd do it all the time, but for a week or so it was nice.

Congratulations, you've fallen behind
in this age of rapid change and evolution, you now have zero hope of ever getting ahead of the curve.

Enjoy straggling.

When I came back from China
I looked over the diary list that I'd missed. It was filled with such topics as:

Yes
if you have to take a trip, January's the time to go. All you're missing is me going insane.

Might I suggest a vacation yourself?
Worked well last year.

Baring that, I've always found that a woman helps redirect the crazy of the offseason. Though once opening day rolls around, there's inevitably an awkward conversation where you dump her for baseball. ("Hey honey, if you can throw a 95mph fastball with movement then I'll stick around. Until then...")

I caught up on that because he popped up
after I returned so I had to get the backstory.

the curve left me behind years ago.  This is why I drink.

I told you that spinach dip was scary....
All that cheese and goo-i-ness.

Bummer, you looked so 'healthy' last time I saw you. :)

It was fun, sorry we didn't have a coupla more beers.

I blame my nephews
It was indeed a good time.  next time, we'll convince your wife that she needs to stay around for a couple more.  That's what vacation's all about, right?  hahahaha...

Not for her....
She drinks about once every 2 years. And as she LOVES to point out: I have 2 DUI's, so its actually quite helpful having a sober person around. 'Course it doesn't mean she's happy when she has to come pick me up at 2am.

OTOH, you THOUGHT you had left your nephews behind, but oohh no, they sent spies to ensure you didn't have too much fun without them.

Next time, hopefully we'll be within sight of public transportation...then we can fully engage our beer seals. ;)

Public transportation?
In Phoenix?  Ain't no such thing.  I don't understand how anybody ever really gets their drink on in Phoenix, unless everybody knows a designated driver - it's ridiculous, the distances between places down there.

Jeff can't have my soul.
I sold my soul for booze money in 1992, and again in 1997 for a Snickers Bar.

I saw both Bedard starts last week
and if I didn't know any better I would swear he's headed for AAA.  He looked HORRIBLE.  So, yeah, spring doesn't mean much and I'm not that worried about Silva, or Bedard for that matter.

Groundball pitchers suffer in Arizona.
It is difficult to get much sink on the ball.  There is no way you win that bet.

I'm sure
that Brandon Webb would disagree with that statement.

Yeah, but doesn't he perform better
On the road?  Also, what are his splits with roof open and closed?  I'll bet he pitches much better with it closed.

by Sec 108 on Mar 17, 2008 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not sure what criteria you want
but easiest was 3-year split ERA.

3.25 at home (consider park factor of Chase)
3.18 on road

Awesome!
Reminds of a practical joke we played on a friend a few years back.  Broke into his apartment and emptied four jars of coins under his mattress pad and put the bedding back on.  That was the nicest thing we did to his place that night.

Silva was trying out his new Cutter
Used it too much in the 5th he said.  Would've ditched it during a regular season game.

"Trying a new pitch" to spring training
is what "flu-like symptoms" is to the regular season.  Happens all the time, nothing to get worked up about.

In that case
I think I'm just going to completely ignore the remaining spring training games...

Just watch them for entertainment
don't watch them for any sort of deeper meaning.

Here's deeper meaning
Be glad that our starter is Silva instead of oft-mentioned alternative Bartolo Colon.

His line today:
2/3 of an inning.
3 hits
3 walks
4 earned runs

On a different note
Jeff don't ever go to grad school.  You won't have enough time to do this site justice.  Plus I almost ended up lighting myself on fire with triethyl aluminum.  In addition to the dangers, you are underpaid and overworked.  Did my scare tactics work? (I actually like it for some sick and twisted reason but don't tell Jeff that)

I really feel like I've barely had the time to check in as much anymore.  I'm ending up just doing the bare minimum to keep up around here.
