You misspelled Villanova.
Not to mention So. Alabama and Illinois St.
Just compare the resumes and you'll see that we are better than all of those teams.
The Big East may send 8 teams
Just about every bubble team has choked this last couple days, though I'm torn on Nova. I can see the Pac 10 sending 6 teams (UCLA, Stanford, WSU, USC, Arizona, Oreogn)
Nova has a lot of quality wins, but losing to DePaul and that 5 game skid sure doesn't help. The Big East could send 8 teams, but someone may have to get royally screwed for Nova to get in.
I find Jeff Sagarin's ratings a pretty solid barometer of team quality, and he has Nova 52nd while the aforementioned Pac 10 teams are in the top 40. That said, the Big East is really good this year, and Nova does have 5 top 50 wins, so I could see them getting a spot.
The objective analyst within me ...
The problem with Villanova, Ohio State, and Massachusetts is that those teams don't have the conference record to compete with Kentucky, the SOS to compete with Arizona, and the RPI to compete with Southern Alabama and Illinois State. Oregon and Arizona State, moreover, play in the nation's toughest conference.
That's my observation.
Idk,
Villanova has a top-50 RPI, has wins over 5 NCAA teams (UConn, WV, GMU, Temple, Pitt) incl. a bullshit loss to G-Town. We've also beaten a solid Syracuse team twice, and were no joke robbed against NC State. Also we were .500 in one of the toughest conferences in the nation.
IMO, we're in barring shenanigans with the B10 and SEC tomorrow
As was with Virginia Tech, Villanova ...
North Carolina and Georgetown have seemingly sent VT and 'nova, respectively, to the NIT. The Wildcats still have a better chance than the Hokies at dancing tomorrow, but it's a slim shot nonetheless.
Big difference, though,
We have beaten Pitt (BE Champ) and UConn in the Top 25, WV and Temple in the top 50. This excludes Syracuse twice, who was an NCAA team till we thrashed them.
Our resume is 1000x better than VT's.
I don't think you guys are in
Just goes to show what one horrible call can do to your season. I'm sure seattlesundevil has the same thought right now.

committee agrees.
Illinois State's resume is nothing to write home

U! N! L! V! U-N-L-V GO FIGHT WIN
They were slamming and were racing, they were burning up the court left and right...
There was nothing that could stop em as they drove on down the lane
Fans were going crazy you could hear them start to scream
I got Runnin' Rebel Fever burning up my mind!
My elementary school principal played that song on the loudspeakers every freaking day during the UNLV tourney runs in 1991 and 1992. I wish I could find video or audio of that damn song so I could share the grating cheese with all of you.
Also, if you told me when I moved here years ago that by 2008 UNLV would have a better basketball program than UW, I'd have thought you were crazy.
It can't hurt when the conference
You remember incorrectly
I'm not saying UNLV doesn't have a good team. I'm just saying that playing on your home court is a HUGE advantage in college basketball. It's why UNLV has won so many MWC tourneys.
The MWC bball tourney needs a neutral court. Playing at Thomas & Mack is not a long term solution.
I think the problem
I'd be okay with moving the tourney to sites near other MWC schools, though. I thought they were in the first place.
You're Right
Vegas is clearly the best of a bunch of bad options. If they could play it at another court in Vegas--anywhere but Thomas & Mack--that would negate some of the home court advantage and make the tournament a little more fair.
I dunno.
It's too bad
It's also not a unique problem to the MWC. Half of the ACC teams are in two states. A lot of Big East teams are close to NYC. The tourney sites inevitably favor certain teams over others. But I do agree that a tourney should alternate between different sites each year.
On that subject, the Pac Ten

I hope the favorites win tomorrow
lol, seriously that was crazy
Boise st vs New mexico st. was also crazy.
I think Georgia would be deserving
That and no one on the bubble is particularly deserving this year. If they were, they would have won on Bubble Carnage Thursday.
The only bubble team that I think is really deserving right now is Saint Joseph's.
by seattlebruin on Mar 15, 2008 11:11 PM PDT up reply actions
that is true
I respect what Georgia and Illinois have done, and I won't root against them, but I'd rather not have him them in the dance.
Not a big deal though, I'll still be watching every minute of the tourney.
Kind of nitpicking
Though Wisconsin sure looks like a 2 right now.
Wisconsin might get a #2 seed ...
I don't see either scenario coming to fruition, though.
My order is
Tennessee, B12 Loser, Duke, Team X
57 teams that have no chance to win the national title.

Okay, mock bracket
I do, however, make sure to maintain separation between conference teams, so that none of them can possibly meet before the regional final.

I think you have
Purdue and Vandy are criminally underseeded - I actually think those are the two biggest dark horses out there.
Otherwise, I really liked your bracket, although I'm not so sure Ole Miss belongs anywhere near the tourney.

I meant to hit reply this during my last post.
After Syracuse lost to Villanova during the first-round of the Big East Conference Tournament, its fate was signed, sealed, and delivered to the NIT selection committee.
Don't want to be a dick, but
Syracuse cannot not possibly be in above Nova; therefore, no Nova, no Cuse
BYU is the land of Mormons, so ..
Mississippi isn't even a bubble team in my book.

Fun fact
I'm just pissed Gonzaga blew it
Speaking of neutral-site conference tourneys
Starting next year, the WCC is taking its tournament to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. That should be neutral enough, as the WCC does not have a school in Nevada; the closest schools are in the L.A. area.
I know.
Great farce or greatest farce?
Considering SD is the only team that's won it besides GONZ in the last ten years, and both were major upsets on their home court.
If they weren't going to play at a neutral site, they should play it on the home court of the #1 seed. Yeah, it's not realistic, but it's fair.
//GTE
Yeah, the lowest conferences do this
The conferences just have this problem with seeing $$$ in centralized big city sites, which is half sensible and half pointless.
If they hadn't moved it to a neutral site

I'm not going to dissect your list, Gomez -
I just think that any team with an elite college scorer (SEC POY Shan Foster), steady point guard play (Alex Gordon - no, not THAT Alex Gordon), and a solid low post threat (AJ Ogilvie) is always a solid --> good team come March at worst.

That being said, there's not reason why SC can't get to the Final Four with that draw...
by seattlebruin on Mar 17, 2008 11:53 AM PDT up reply actions
I do think
We also don't have the west coast great white hype. That's at least one round off for lack of announcer fellatio being performed on us.
I have SC in the Final Four. It hurts. A lot.
Believe me, most UCLA fans are a little tired of hearing the announcer fellatio as well - the current standing joke is "DID YOU KNOW THAT KEVIN LOVE'S DAD PLAYED AT OREGON?!?! ME NEITHER!!!"
Anyway, I don't think SC's depth is that huge of a problem - the talent level is just too high and barring an OJ or Davon meltdown (which I don't see happening.. well maybe Jefferson...), they should be good to go at least to the Elite 8. You guys would probably face Kansas, who you nearly beat until Super Mario chucked in that miracle 30 footer.
The only really killer game I see you guys playing is vs. Wisconsin, who'll try and make it an all-out war and that might be the one where the depth hurts. I'm not entirely sure Wisconsin escapes CSU Fullerton though - if Josh Akognon gets hot, who knows what might happen.
Eh, who am I kidding. The fan in me is rooting for K-State, just like the fan in you is probably rooting for MVSU ;). The realist in me says that SC has a ridiculously good draw though.

What, no love for the NCAA Women's Tourney?
It's the same thing
by Mariner John on Mar 18, 2008 4:28 PM PDT up reply actions
I watch women's basketball
The NBA is just a bunch of selfish jerks going 1 on 1 for the whole game. I want to see aimless passing around the perimeter! I want to see drive and kicks where the ball takes two bounces to get to its intended recipient! I want to see said recipient brick the wide open 15-foot jumper (and by brick, I mean BRICKKKKKKKK woefully short off the front iron)! I want to see team defenses that don't rotate quickly, if at all!
I want to see games in which one team is so clearly superior to the other that there really IS no reason to play the game!
Let's be honest. Someone once asked me "who would win - the #1 HS team in the nation or the current WNBA champs?" It took me .00000003 seconds to say "HS team. Even an average HS team might beat them." That about sums up the WNBA. Needless to say, not a fan.

I'd watch the WNBA before I watch NASCAR
I'd watch the WNBA before I'd watch televised card-playing, of any type.
I'd watch the WNBA before almost any ESPN shouting-head show.
The WNBA ain't that terrible.
I'd actually watch NASCAR before I'd watch
Replace "Auto racing"
I find it really odd that NASCAR is most popular
It's kind of communist.
The 16 seed play in game
Is anyone else pissed about the Tourney
Last weekend my internal sports clock kept telling me I was supposed to be glued to the first 2 Rounds. My March has been all screwed up. I used to love watching Opening Day and then running to the bar to watch the Final.
