Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Lackey is out for 3-4 weeks, maybe "until May"

http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080315&content_id=2428749&vkey=spt200 8news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

That means both of the Angels' aces will be out for opening day, and in Escobar's case, quite a bit longer (and you never know if Lackey's injury is worse than reported).

Needless to say, good news for the M's. One of many boosts the M's are going to need to have a legit chance at the division title.

We might end up winning this division by default!
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...

I'm happy
although this doesn;t really give us an advantage. Our bats seem to always take a month to wake up, so really, this just puts us on even ground.

Still, if the injury is serious or ends up nagging him, and if Escobar doesn't come back on schedule... whoooeee. This could be a real fun season. I'm now going to go knock on wood and hope all this doesn't come back to bite our own OD starter in the ass.

Yes, of course
We all wish Lackey and Escobar speedy recoveries. Wish wish wish. Speedy speedy speedy.

A random note, but...
http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp

The M's play the Angels on April 11th-13th.

Batista, Bedard, and Felix will be starting. Lackey will most likely still be out, as well as Escobar, so that series will be a nice opportunity to win 2-3 games and start off against the Angels on a positive note.

by redwolf75 on Mar 15, 2008 11:52 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I projected....
....the starts for that weekend series will be:

FRI 4/11 = Bedard
SAT 4/12 = Felix
SUN 4/13 = Silva

I bought tickets for FRI hoping to maximize my chances to see Bedard or Felix.

Did I do it wrong?  I assumed that JohnnyMac would not skip anyone for the first two weeks at least and that the rotation order would be:

Bedard
Felix
Silva
Washburn
Batista

Looks right to me
Those games are numbers 11, 12 and 13. So barring a weather problem in Baltimore, you'd expect every starter to have had 2 starts each by then and back around to #1 for the Friday game on the 11th.

Silva
is going to have some huge problems with the Angels and any other team build like them. Any series against them he's involved in, our best case scenario is 2 of 3.

You guys need to take advantage
of this and sign Bonds.

Why Don't You Guys Sign Him?
Your season is a loss this year anyway. It's a way to put butts in the seats, and it's not far away from SF.

Personally, I don't want the Mariners having anything to do with Bonds. It's too much of a distraction, and I just plain don't like the guy at all because he refuses to put his name on any video game and I have to do it manually.

The season is already a loss for the A's
He will help with ticket sales, sure, but he makes more sense for the Mariners than the A's. Bonds or not the A's are not going to the playoffs, unless all manner of flukes happen.

Bonds, offensively, was roughly 30 runs better than Vidro last year.

you seem to pay close enough
attention to our organization to know they would never sign Bonds, not even to a minor league contract. They just aren't real politikers like Beane is.

Well, I'm not speculating
on their motivations, just saying that it would be a good idea in the current context, with the Bedard trade and the injuries the Angels have.

Also, I'm getting pissed off constantly reading all over the web that the Mariners are overrated, pythag, pythag, pythag !!11!!

visiting A's fan.

by rfloh on Mar 16, 2008 12:24 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What pisses me off about the pythag, pythag
the Mariners are overrated and are going to win 75 games screaming, is that the people doing the screaming do not seem to be aware of just how bad Ho and Weaver were. And Sexson too; and Sexson's very low BABIP.

Ho and Weaver were sufficiently bad
to cause Clay Davenport to modify his Pythagenport calculations so that one horrific pitcher couldn't sink an entire team.

Time to rename their 1-2
Weaver and Garland.....

Now if only Guerrero would...
Oh nvm, he's on my fantasy team.

Man, if we had Bonds
and 86'd Vidro, we'd be locks for October.
