They are okay. Only a couple were unfunny to me - Vidro and Yuni.

My feelings towards these have sadly evolved over the last 10 minutes.

"What's That?"
So the Moose ISN'T from Canada, then, eh?

Not bad.  Not great.

Heh -- I love, though, how they had to use footage from the season in Ichi's commercial.  They're STILL trying to get a video clip of him gettin' a hit this spring...

CUT ICHIRO NOW!!!!!
Some guy sitting behind me at Wednesday's game kept saying that Ichiro was going to be really bad this year, because he hadn't gotten a hit yet and "he doesn't look like he cares very much".  Of COURSE he doesn't care.  It's MARCH.

I said Ichiro would be fine, then started talking to him about Sexson and how bad HE is going to be this year, and then, of course, Sexson immediately golfed one out and this dude spent the rest of the game saying that I didn't know what I was talking about.

I love Spring Training crowds.

Too true
Best thing about March 31? Real baseball.

Worst thing about March 31?  The only day I can count on a real baseball fan sitting in the row behind me.

huh?
Opening Day attracts just as many, if not more, peacocks.

by Matthew on Mar 13, 2008 11:09 AM PDT up reply actions

Don't want to say too much in case they lurk
But the guy who has the tickets behind me is super cool.  He always goes to Opening Day.  The problem is the collection of , umm, less than knowledgeable yet very opinionated people who he gives the majority of his tickets to throughout the season.  They are not all bad, but it can be painful somedays.

Yeah, the Felix one was
easily the best.

Seconded.
Only one that made me laugh this year.

Love Felix and Fungo!
I can't imagine what it was like when filming Fungo. How do they get away with doing that kind of thing in the middle of the day? It obviously was done before camp opened to full workouts, but still.

Vidro's Pepe got a laugh, but it makes me sad he is going to be our DH for '08 and '09.

And for those who do not like this year's commercials, keep things in perspective and remember how lame 2005 was.

Fungo was great

but only for the two seconds that he is dancing.

I thought Morrow's
psuedo moon walk was funnier then Potatoes dancing....

Thoughts
Vidro: considering the other misconceptions that Bavasi and McLaren are operating under about Jose, this one hit close to home

Yuni: Pulling the rabbit out of the batting helmet was worth a chuckle

Beltre: Boring

Raul: Awkward

Fungo: Awesome

Felix: Funny

Ichiro: Still the man

I was a bit disappointed that there were no Funk Blast references...hopefully that one sticks around this year

Felix = Winner
The rest got a "heh."  Which translates roughly to a "meh."

The Mustache Contest commercial is awesome.
The deal-sealer is Washburn's "100 Pitch Stare."

Beltre's commerical was okay, though I was hoping he was going to let a ball through to kill Norm on purpose.

Everything else sucked on huge brown balls.

by Jordan of Boise on Mar 13, 2008 12:13 AM PDT reply actions

Felix's mustache wins for a couple reasons
Willie Ballgame and his scrappy "Wanna play?" attitude, and then utter dejection when he realizes he's not all that good.

The cut back to Felix standing there with the 'stache, especially when followed by the long near-still of Washburn being totally dumbfounded.

Who's the third guy in the commercial
Is it Ho, or Burke?  I can't tell from the tiny video screen.

I thought Beltre's spot was great.
Ichiro's spot was good, but there wasn't enough Ichiro being funny. He's a funny dude. Yuni's was cute, but I like Yuni so much I'm probably being generous.  Fungo was funny, but I don't think it'll still be funny in June. Moustache contest is the winner, though. Good stuff.

Slideshow was pretty forgettable, and the Vidro spot was horrible. Either I didn't get the joke, or there just wasn't one to speak of.

Still, no Mariners related commercial will ever be able to compare to the "That's a light bat!" Ernst commercials. Gold.

Eagle (before the days of the Lowe's buyout). Edgar and Randy were great in those ads.

If Sexson gets a spot on a commercial,
why didn't Red?  I mean seriously, we know Red will still be there in July.

Just think of the possibilities...

LOVE the Yuni one
Where he makes the catch and releases the dove.

by Garces on Mar 13, 2008 9:45 AM PDT reply actions

They could have made the ad better
if they changed the last line from "you'll find out" to "you'll find out... when he runs you over like Coco Crisp."

"Turtle!"
... uh, why?

by tworsandtwols on Mar 13, 2008 11:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Im biased but
I thought the Beltre spot was great.  Mustahce contest was good, and Yuni's was alright.  Not too sure about the rest but in due time Im sure ill like most of them.
I'll fuck you till you love me!

by RED29 on Mar 13, 2008 11:24 AM PDT reply actions

Beltre good, Mustache wins though.
Fungo was annoying IMHO, and I thought the Ichiro one was boring.

The rest of them are "okay".

Maybe it just sucks watching it on
the media player. I always like the commercials better when I see them on TV for the first time.

Just seems like the kind of commercial that would drive you nuts by June.

I must have missed that part. It was pretty grainy on media player here at work.

Bavasi's acting might be worse than his GM abilties

by travis @ Lookout Landing on Mar 13, 2008 4:10 PM PDT reply actions

In that case
it's probably a good thing that he doesn't get paid to act or be a good GM huh?

by seattlebruin on Mar 13, 2008 6:41 PM PDT up reply actions

So I saw them finally
I'm surprised the crowd at Mariner Central hated the Fungo commercial: I thought it was pretty cool.

The mustache, Ichiro and L Screen commercials were also cool.  The Vidro one was meh, and though the slideshow was meh too, it was at least witty.

I'm surprised people around the net (not necessarily here) were scoffing at the quality of the commercials.  I thought they were pretty solid.
