New message board to start up since SportSpot died

Some of you may know of SportSpot. It was a message board that Mark, aka MarinerGeek started four years ago. It's been up and down. There still was a hard core community of folks that posted there until MGeek took the board down last week.

The 'Spot will be missed but some of the posters put up a few bucks and started a new board. It just opened it's doors tonight.

The link is http://marinercentral.com or just click here Mariner Central

There's not much on there yet because it just opened tonight. We hope some of the old timers will see this and drop by and register.

For those who are concerned, I emailed Jeff to see if posting this is ok by him. I didn't want to spam. He said, "Go for it."

Damn
That's actually quite a loss.  Sportspot was a huge and active community.  I hadn't been back in a while.  I will miss it.

Sweetness!
Certainly sad to hear 'Spot shutting down, but I think Ess & The Rest will do a mighty fine job keeping the group together, even if 'Spot takes a slightly different perspective.  Tip o' the hat, though, to Geek who really built a great community over there.

Fortunately...
Mark alerted us ahead of time, which gave Kevin a chance to talk it over with him and get the foundation laid out.  Most of the long-time members knew that they'd be moving shortly, so we should be able to maintain the bulk of the community, I'm hoping.

Yeah...
Most of the regulars should've been aware of this already (I was, even though I lurked more than I posted, normally). The key ultimately will be to have the SportSpot domain have some link to MarinerCentral.  I believe that's in the works.  The transition could've gone a little smoother, but considering the circumstances, I think things will be just fine.

I'm sure
the people who worked to get Mariner Central up and running would appreciate if the word could be spread so former 'Spotters would know there's a place they can use the same format with the same atmosphere.

Heh I remember that place. Was my first
introduction to the Mariner blogosphere during the 04/05 off season. I didn't really jive with the atmosphere, but I always respected what Geek started and was able to maintain. I hope you guys are able to keep the bulk of that community together.

I prefer...
...to have the freedom to occasionally utilize 4 letter vulgarities, so that's why I post here.

But SS was a good ol' place. I hope MC can jive a bit more.

I really enjoyed hanging out at Sportspot.net
I'll probably register on Mariner Central after work.  Would be nice to keep that community going.
